To answer your question Speaker, they are a countless number of realms that are linked to Tamriel, only few we have discovered though. First and foremost is Oblivion, the home of the Daedra. Second is Aetherius, the plane of pure magicka and dwelling of the Nine, or so the priests speak. Third is of course only considered another plane, but not truely proven. The Void. For all our knowledge, the Void may just be part of the Dread Father. And the fourth that is known, as well as my personal favorite, is The Rift. The rift between realms acts not only as a gate to other realms, but it was once the location of one of the most prestigious Imperial Fortresses and training academies.

So, if the Rift was once an area to the Imperials, does that mean that they have been to the other realms?

A rift between worlds? how oddly conventiant. if that's true, then can;t we try to find the Void. If it IS another plane, then there has to be a way to get to him without dying.

Ahh yes, an interesting concept isn't it? The Battlespire lies within the rift, which the Imperials had access too. They could have accessed other realms, but we can never be sure as none have truely ever been recorded. And as to reach the Void, doubtful. The vast abyss which is the rift has no end, and therefore we would have no knowledge of where the Void is or how to enter it.

No problem. How do you think Dagon had such easy access to it? All he had to do is enter the rift.

So, if daedra have come through the rift before, why do they use oblivion gates if they know how to just go through the rift.
Also, how would one access the rift?

I wish to burn the mortal who created school. Anyways, for the rift. Dagon is a Daedric god, meaning if he changed his very being into Daedric essance, he could control it and control where it's location goes to. For him to even enter the battle spire, he must turn to essance, as do mortals as well, seeing as they must break through space and enter the rift. That is why many Battlemages died trying to gain access to the fortress. As for his meaningless servents and lower Daedra, they have no control of their essence, lest they be gods themselves. That is why Dagon told mortals to open his gates using a congregation of many condensed Daedric souls, in other words the Sigil Stones. The lava of the wastes that is used to empower the Sigil Stones is basically daedric souls in their recycling state, enough of them can be used to create some control over essence and institute a "gate" through the rift and into the mortal plan, of course not allowing access to the rift itself seeing as the gates are not strong enough.
