Tara~Puget27 sugarnew182 Night_Blaze Honestly? About 3 1/2 years. I'm only an 8th grader. sweatdrop I'm a 1st chair flutist. I want more of a challenge in band... Just wait, because if your school is anything like mine, the flutes are the hardest working section. Pretty much none of the other sections are as competitive as they are.... It is kind of scarey. OMG..i so relate to that crap!!!! Man, flutes are the most competitive section...even the trumpets notice that.. crying Im only 2nd chair..BUT ILL GET BACK UP THERE I TELL YOU!!! xp I'm a bassoon player in the band (we are competitive, but there are only 4 of us). The flutes on the day of tryouts were practicing like crazy, and when 29 flutes are playing the 3rd octaves to their scales it gets really loud. I didn't have to try out of flute, and I know their tryout music. It tis really sad.

RinoaHeartilly Tara~Puget27 xkrnxfluteygalx i think my hearing's gone bad after sitting in front of trumpets for five years and next to a piccolo for two of those years. sweatdrop !!! HAHA!! Thats cool...heehe meh play flute..^__^ Im only 13 but ive been playing for 3 years...this christmas im gonna start playing the piccolo..!!! YAYYY!!! A really cool pink one too! Hehehe i heard you can get deaf in your right ear if you play it too much X___X Just hit ur teenage years, eh? xd Naw, you can't get deaf from playing it too much. That's so stupid, what kinda moron would say that. xd ...it's actually true..many colleges proved it X________X...

I wish we did... then I'd be first chair and have the RIGHT to tell them to practice more. XD

Keltzy I have to work really hard on my chair test. I have a strong urge to get first chair. Foolish section leader, making marching miserable for me!! She's more tolerable in concert band it would seem, but then she did make my piccy/flute friend cry once (or at least really upset). She told her after the concert that she was really flat the whole time. I fear the same will happen to me. I'm scared of the good band, I don't wanna make them sound bad. gonk It won't be as bad if I get section leader though. yea i know how that is my flute section leader is a real pain stare but luckly i didn't have concert band with her she is in the symphonic band at my high school now that our marching season is over i don't have to deal with her much anymore but she's also a senior so i have to respect her when she's around

*is new to the guild* Almost everyone in our flute section is short. Our first chair honor band flute, Caryn, is only like... 4'10". The tallest one of us is MAYBE 5'6". I know no one in our Symphonic band flute section is tall. I'm 5'1.5" and I'm in the middle of the height range. We end up having yelling contests at the football games and what's sad is the band has more energy than all of the cheerleaders COMBINED.
Here's why you don't want our section to get bored
Some of the upper classmen (usually Olivia, Jen, and Caryn): HEY FLUTES!
Rest of the section: HEY WHAT!
O, J, & C: HEY FLUTES!
Sect: HEY WHAT!
O, J, & C: DO THE FLUTE THING!
All: BADABABABADA GO FLUTES! BADABABABADA GO FLUTES! *insert Indian war cry* F-L-U-T-I-E-S! FLUTIES!

Our two guys balance us out though. XD One of them is like 6'0". I wish our flute section was fun like that... but really, our section is a bunch of whiners because of all the freshman/sophomore girls. stare The clarinet section is the same way. But I don't sit with the flutes at games... I play sax, and the saxes are almost all sophomores and up. The only two freshman are really cool, too. I really wish our flute section wasn't so apathetic....

gah my teacher tried me for flute... I made it I just thought I sounded band when I played it the first time.. lol.. my best friend plays flute too! xd

I think that, if so, that may be why we're so competitive. We're too afraid of someone being better than us. I can tell...' we all ' do a lot of boasting in this thread.... blaugh xd sweatdrop
