You happen upon a clearing. At the very center lies a fairy circle of mushrooms, unusually large, and though the clearing is abandoned you experience an eerie sensation of being of watched.

You disturb some leaves, and beneath them you find a perfect fox print pressed into the damp mud. Was the fox trying to hide its tracks? Regardless, this is excellent evidence of a trail.
You win four points this turn.

You stop to examine a leafless buckthorn shrub covered in eggplant-colored berries. Some of its lower branches have been bent and broken, but these branches appear to have been dead for a long time, so there's no telling when the event occurred. This is poor evidence of an animal's trail, but it's better than nothing.
You win one point this turn.

You spy a splash of blood on a single yellow leaf on the ground. When you examine it, the blood looks fresh. Strangely there are no trees in the area with such distinctly golden foliage, but this is still excellent evidence of an animal's trail… isn't it?
After some time of continued searching, however, you are forced to come to the conclusion that you've been waylaid by a prankster — or an unnaturally clever fox.
You lose two points this turn.

The forest is quiet; by now most of the birds have migrated south, and the only sounds you've heard for the past several minutes are the rustling of the breeze in the trees, the plop of acorns falling, the quiet scraping rustle as a leaf descends to the forest floor, and the occasional rasp of a squirrel gnawing on a nut's shell in the distance. It is peaceful — or, depending on your character's preferences, a little eerie.
The shrill, almost-human scream of a rabbit's death cry shatters the silence. Once you've taken a moment to recover (or, if you're a badass mofo, coolly evaluate the situation) you head in the scream's direction. It could be the work of a hawk, but there's still a good chance a fox is nearby.
You win three points this turn.

The trees in this area of the wood are ancient and dense enough to block out most of the light. The floor is carpeted in a rich coating of moss and fallen leaves, all a deep shade of scarlet. Eventually you become aware of a low whispering sound coming from above you. You look up.
There is something pale and strange in the dark webwork of branches, something moving… you receive the impression of long, crooked fingers like broken twigs, bright eyes that seethe with malice; it is whispering at you…
When you come back to yourself no time seems to have passed at all, but the look of the sky and the numbness of your legs suggest that you have been standing in the same spot, motionless, for several minutes. Something distracted you, but you can't remember what it was.
You do not win or lose any points this turn.

Glad to have found anything after the debacle with the creek, Maggie takes note of the pawprint, wrings a bit more of the fetid creekwater out of her braid, and continues on.

A broken twig lies in your path. Bending down to retrieve it, you notice that it has a faint spicy scent and the inside of the wood is green and pliable. Something has passed through here recently.

Go big or go home, McSweeney knew that his time traipsing through the woods would finally have to come to an end. His boots had enough oil in them to not creak but bedraggled and moss spotted did not suit him. And the eerie stares did not help. He leapt through the air at the next sound of a twig breaking.

Renaud remained sitting for a long while, having eventually grown bored with glaring at the kingshawk that remained rasping on the ground. Glastyn was well asleep, tucked up against the mossy rock Renaud was perched upon. The trees still wavered now and then, but the wine was slowly wearing off. He looked to his bottle and frowned. He hadn't brought enough of it, so it seemed. Barely a drink or so remained, and still there was no fox. With a half-hearted grunt, he took a final sip and poured the remaining wine out. For the fair folk.
Only then did he notice a new fox print next to his rock, which left Renaud wondering if the creature hadn't been watching when he and the hawk fell from the tree. He snorted a harsh laugh. How like a fox.

Keep movin', else somethin' unpleasant might decide to drop from the tree... Feeling a slight shudder ripple down her spin, Soibhan kept on.

Fascinating. Foxes were relatively plentiful; clever ones, not so much. Theron crouched to study the print, making a mental comparison of the size to the prints he'd seen before, then rose to follow the trail. The mark was fresh and perfect enough that it had to be recent.
