The girl ran off after sending a glare in both their directions that probably promised revenge, although Briar wasn’t too concerned.
After saluting Griffin with a grin he trotted off to get more ammo since he was out again.
He had been in the process of heading for the confetti tub when a balloon whipped past, narrowly missing him.
It was lying intact on the path and who was Briar to ignore an opportunity like that? Scooping up the balloon Briar lobbed it back in the direction it had come from.
A squawk from that direction suggested it had found a target.

Left to his own devices, Griffin was determined to rack up what was the playground water fight equivalent of a high body count. He also had a few scores to settle with the kids who'd tried to raid his base. Sure, he could just continue chucking balloons at them when they were near enough. But, he remembered, he also had something else he could do. Something special.
Digging into his pocket, he pulled out a handful of what had once been confetti. Now it was really just a gloppy papery mush, but that was even better in his opinion. When the perceived ringleader of the raiding gang came close, Griffin lobbed his pulpy bullet at him, then ducked behind his tub. Not only did he have a large supply of ammo, but the bin made a pretty decent shield.
One of the teacher’s had turned the hose on the field again and Briar had narrowly managed to avoid the stream of water.
He hadn’t been so lucky about the confetti.
He had lobbed a balloon in the direction he’d thought the confetti had come from, but with confetti swirling around it was hard to see just who’d thrown it at him and when he’d batted enough of the icky stuff away, his balloon was lying on the ground unexploded.

Still trying to bat away confetti, Briar picked up another balloon and lobbed it to his right.
There was a thud followed by a shriek suggesting that this time at least the balloon had managed to hit a target.
It was doubtful that it had hit the person who had originally sent the confetti his way.
The only good thing about the icky stuff, was that the confetti at least made for good getaway cover as Briar snagged another balloon and attempted to vacate the scene.

Gave every chipmunk a unwanted bath? Check. Frightened a crow? Check. Made sure every tree was watered? Check. Trev ran down his list of accomplishments mentally. Lessee... flooded out a couple of anthills. DOuble check-a-roonie.
Maybe he should try to scare off another crow.

Marisha, now back into the flow of things grabbed another of the overfilled balloons. Then looking around she spotted another kid about to toss a balloon on an unsuspecting girl. Smiling at her plan Marisha started to sneak around behind the boy before aiming her own balloon at him. Then just as he was about to throw she threw her own balloon at his back. However, instead of him getting soaked with water the balloon popped open full of suds and bubbles all down his back. Marisha giggled before running out of sight.

Briar lobbed a water balloon in Marisha’s direction as she ran past close to where he was standing.
He may have spared her earlier after her balloon had dropped on her head, but it was never supposed to be a forever thing.
‘Sides that had been a while ago and now she was back on her feet and seemed to be back in the game, Briar reckoned that in her case he could go back to all bets being off again.

Of course now Ralph was left with an angry kid who didn't know if he should whine to a teacher or hit Ralph back. While the kid was debating Ralph pointed off to the side getting the kid to look he ran the opposite way into a crowd and wiggled his way over the nearest water balloon tank.
This is when he saw Griffin, and grinned sneaking a balloon from the tank and moving away a bit. He had to be fair after all, nailing someone just a few feet away wasn't any fun! However, Ralph moved too far away from Griffin and missed. Time to find someone else~

The balloon bin kept Griffin safe from a number of frontal attacks. However, if someone snuck around behind him, it was likely that they would land a hit. Especially if it was a teacher with a hose set on wide spray.
"Aaaaaagh that's cold!" he yelped, putting his hands behind him to shield himself from the water. They were much less effective than the bin, and he still ended up getting thoroughly re-soaked.
Somehow, Griffin managed to withstand the onslaught from the hose. Eventually, the teacher moved on to torment other kids, and he could get back to his mission. Even though at that point, what he really wanted to do was tie all of the hoses in a giant knot, Hydra style.
Even if he could do that, it would get him into major trouble. So Griffin had to settle for venting his frustration on other kids, throwing three balloons in quick succession. Only one of them hit, but that one was satisfying enough.
Briar sneaked up on one of the girls who had nailed him earlier, and lobbed his latest balloon it her direction.
There had been something self-satisfying in hearing her shriek, however unfortunately for him back up had been swift in coming and he had had to make a quick retreat as two of her friends had come running.

It seemed like quantity, not quality, was the way to go. The more balloons Griffin threw in quick succession, the greater a chance he had of landing a hit. Which was sort of obvious when he thought about it. The same idea had led him to trying to throw multiple balloons at once, though that experiment had been a failure.
This one was a marked success. Especially when one of the balloons he tossed turned out to be another of the strange soap-filled ones. If he could figure out which balloons had suds and which had plain water, he'd have a useful weapon on his hands, but they looked and felt the same to him. Still, coming across them at random worked, he supposed.
Briar had slipped and slid across the muddy ground as he tried to escape from the people chasing him and ended up falling over yet again.
The rate he was going he was probably going to have knee caps all of his very own - ones made up of mud that was.
His balloon had slipped from slippery fingers and dropped straight down onto him, bursting on impact.
To add insult to injury two balloons had hit him, the handiwork of the two guys chasing after him.
Briar had decided that they would be his next targets - even if he had go get them one by one.

Guess who's back, back again? Ralph had a new balloon and was trying to sneak up behind Briar to give the boy a good soaking of water. There was a grin on his face as he let the balloon fly. However he missed and hit a squirrel next to Briar. .. Oh dear....

Of course, numbers couldn't make up for everything. When a shower of five balloons did nothing but water the plants nearby, Griffin started to rethink his strategy. At this rate, he would exhaust his extensive- but not unlimited- supply of balloons without really hitting anyone. Of course, he could always camp at another bin after that, but staking his claim at this one had been tough, and he wasn't sure he had the energy to do it all over again.
So, caution would win the day. Careful throws only. Probably.
