Yae realized she could weasel her way out of the ropes and eat now. Or at least take a break and eat before going back to it. However, she wouldn't. The girl had a grudge against the two remaining knots that she wasn't going to drop. She pulled experimentally at the ninth challenge. It was large, compact, and refused to budge. Dismayed but determined, she wrapped her palm around the thing. Her chakra seeped into the cracks, feeding back a sonaresque approximation of the inner workings. The image was complicated, hard to properly analyze given the poor resolution. Yae bit her lip, trying to resist the sudden urge to curse.

As expected, nothing happened. A sound coming from Yae's direction startled him, and he looked over to see that she was almost done. Well, she'd been applying herself to the task much more intensely than he had to be honest, what with being distracted by the dog and all. Speaking of which... Fudou was going to find Pakku later and demand some sort of refund. He still had a bunch of ramen credits in his pocket, so he could go to the ramen-ya and grab a quick lunch if the dog ended up getting away with it. Or he could always just have Pakku's lunch, if he got out before him. The Inuzuka had been completely oblivious to his glare and it had been rather confusing. Fudou wasn't used to be passed over like that. Even Shirogami had conceded to him when he'd tried something. Speaking of Shirogami... he was just casually eating lunch right in front of them. He could really do with some consideration. At least pick a different classroom!

After a beat Fudou realised he had totally been wasting time cursing his own misfortune and being jealous of others' successes. Which was totally fun to do to a small extent, but he also recognised that dwelling too much on others' achievements would stunt his own. And there was nothing he wanted less than that. Grumbling, mentally, he swung his focus back to the task at hand. He made his best try to block the hunger out. His muscles were beginning to set after a long period of inactivity, especially after the workout he put them through just now. He had to get out of the ropes before they got too stiff.

Back to the rope tying his elbows to his torso. Fudou looked down, and could see the rope taut around his shirt. If he breathed out, he could make the rope a little more slack, but it didn't help much. Funny how they weren't taught to manifest chakra at their core if that was really where it came from, and instead at their fingers. Well, he had to make the best of the situation. Fudou created some chakra and started to try to make it worm its way up his arms to reach his elbow and his restraint.

Now Yae was resisting the urge to eat. Her tummy quaked, begged her to reconsider. She refused. All she needed was two lousy knots and then it was over. She tugged at the rope with her chakra, trying to pull it apart from the inside. All this managed to do was further fray the rope. At first she didn't recognize this for the blessing that it was. During her second attempt she realized the frayed rope provided more traction, making manipulation of the fiber easier. When a third dizzy spell dawned on Yae she drew the line. Leaning forward in her seat, she reached for her bento box with her free hand.

The gentle breeze rustled the child’s hair as she now stood more or less alone in the training arena. Akeru had gone over to Sakura who was still more or less hiding behind the door. Amaya figured that if they didn’t know each other they would be going over formalities and introductions. It was always a bother to introduce yourself to someone in a formal manner and the young girl had been able to introduce herself to Akeru as informally as she had. Then again, she had also panicked when she realized that she had provided a tour to a man who didn’t even know her name at the time. Her manners had been terrible, but luckily the man had seemed patient and understanding about the whole situation. It had been unfortunate that he had noted the social snafu before she had. Oh well, that was the way the whole system worked.

Before trying to continue on, Amaya tucked her loose strands of hair behind her ear so that they wouldn’t obscure her vision. The grass rustled beneath her feet as the clouds floated and shifted above her head while the black haired girl took in her target. While this was all fine, it was highly unlikely that the girl would encounter enemies willing to stand still while she threw weapons at them. Maybe she should look into becoming some sort of stealth based ninja. They had to have political assassins. Then again, running around killing people just because she was told to didn’t seem idea to the child; much less something she wanted to turn into a career. She would, after all, be a career shinobi. After all it would be absolutely pointless to go to the Academy and then not continue being a ninja. Why did that even come across her mind? Now, there was the possibility that she would have to spend more time in the shop than in the field at some point in the future, but she also had that on the back burner as a last resort. However, it was nice to know that she had something to fall back onto if this whole shinobi thing didn’t work out. If she just miraculously began failing at everything and wasn’t able to continue further on as a shinobi. That might be the only instance that she would let that happen.

Why did she always drift off to think about things like this? The child dragged her mind back from the nether regions of her subconscious before continuing on with her training. Fishing in her side pouch, Amaya withdrew the last kunai that she had in her pouch. She figured that since she was down to her last two weapons she would use the one that she was less comfortable with first so that she had the preferred of the two at the end. The girl knew that she wouldn’t complete her training with this group of weapons and she would have to go gather up the ones that she had thrown, but that was alright. The girl bit her lip slightly as she found her grip on the knife. It crossed her mind: if this weapon wasn’t intended for throwing then how did it become such a standard throwing weapon? That was something that she would have to investigate one of these days. Amaya took a gentle breath to focus herself as she allowed the knife to fly from her hand. While it did feel better than the two times before, it still went in relatively the same place as the one before. The kunai gently stuck into the hip of the dummy off to the left. At least this one didn’t immediately fall out like the last one. No, it held for a full six seconds before falling out of the wooden dummy and gently landing on the grass. Damn kunai knives.

Progress was slow but steady. A warm sensation washed over his forearms and moved upwards. Fortunately the room was cool so the outside heat didn't interfere with this process. Eventually the chakra latched onto the rope and Fudou allowed himself a few seconds' rest. He couldn't help but look around and see how the others were doing. Yae had got out of most of her knots, but not all, but she was reaching for her bento box anyway. Actually, Fudou would totally do that. Just freeing up his hands would do the job of allowing him to eat his bento properly. Fueled by this sudden brain wave, he send the chakra along the rope to the knot, feeling it out and testing it. Ko-sensei had to have given them some easier ones, right? Like those knots where you could untie them by just pulling one of the strings.

Nope! No such luck! Fudou confirmed this by tugging on each of the strings he could suss out with his chakra and having nothing happened. In fact, it seemed like he made the knot tighter. Good job, Fudou. As he thought of his bento as encouragement, he realised that the Inuzuka's dog had been pulling it away. So he couldn't exactly get to his lunch until he untied all his knots, anyway. It was getting quite hard not to become frustrated at his own state of affairs now. When the familiar feeling of persecution arose in his chest, he pushed it down. This was the academy. There was no way Ko-sensei or the people here would have it out especially for him. It would just be a waste of effort anyway. Fudou exhaled, trying to pull his arms out in vain. Well, if they could just break out of the knots there wouldn't be much point to this exercise, would there?

Yae struggled to reach her lunch at first. Leaning forward as far as the ropes would allow her, she pressed her free hand into the lid and managed to inch it close enough to herself. Once it was easily in range she managed to pop the lid off with one hand. For a moment she basked in the glory of the food. The food had been there for a while, clearly, but the lid had managed to keep it warm enough. Hell, she would have eaten it cold, at this point. The girl hesitated for a moment. She had told Sakurayuki they would eat together, so she decided to settle for just a few mouth-fulls to keep herself going.

Yae scooped up a generous portion of rice and ate it out of her palm. Her box's accompanying chopsticks were well out of reaching distance.

"Mmm~" she hummed the joyous sound as she chewed the plain white grains. It was the best thing she had ever eaten, as far as she was concerned. She quickly consumed a second helping. Suddenly she felt a lot better, her motivation completely restored. Carefully placing the top back on, she pressed down until the lid was firm enough to trap most of the warmth in. With a shove she sent the box sliding just beyond her reach. She planned on keeping her vow to only eat a little for the time being. Besides, she'd be out in no time.

Reinvigorated, Yae got right to work. At this point she could have easily just undone the knots manually, but that sort of defied the point of the training. Following the usual plan of attack, she first sized up the knot using her chakra response approach. As her energy retracted it began to loosen the rope with no conscious effort on Yae's part. Grinning, she simply reapplied her chakra and let it dissipate a second time, this time it loosened the knot enough so that it collapsed all together. She felt a rush as only one lone knot stood in her way, but not for long.

The final length of rope was taut, holding Yae's forearm against her abdomen. It was held together by another one of those silly pretzel-looking knots. Dispatching the thing with her chakra was a simple task, and the rope fell down from around her. Beaming pridefully she stood up, stretching for a moment. Next she walked over to where Fudou sat and, without warning, ripped the tape off of his mouth. She quickly extended the same courtesy to Pakku.

"Don't use your chakra too quickly, or you'll get dizzy and pass out," she said matter-of-factly, silently wishing she had something more directly helpful to say to the others.

Retrieving her bento box and utensils she headed for the door, but then stopped and turned on her heel. Heading back, she retrieved the set with Sakurayuki's name too. No point in eating in front of the others.

Just because water conforms does not mean it is any lesser an element.

As her father was a Jounin of the village, his sempai by Konoha's shinobi structure, it wasn't at all surprising that Akeru had a few run-ins with Uchiha Daichi clan compound aside. Nor was he surprised why he did not hear of a child of the clan beginning her Academy year... For the Uchiha, the Academy was a mere stepping stone, the beginning of a road leading to far greater achievements.

A faint smile touched his lips. He chose to begin by soothing her nervousness, even though with how his fingers briefly played with the kunai he had retrieved before depositing it in his belt's pouch, there was that open betrayal that he was equally apprehensive. He wasn't good with children, much less members of his own family. He took a deep breath, before feeling ready to reply in turn.

"Sakurayuki-chan, there's no need for such formalities."

His pensive golden gaze was difficult to read even though those words alone made his position quite clear. The Hyuuga valued clan structure to the extreme, and to a degree, the Senju imperial family did as well. But before the eyes of the Uchiha elders, he holds the same position as she does - that of a child.

"Is it your first day too, Sakurayuki-chan?" He faintly nodded towards Amaya's direction, glancing that way. "Amaya-chan has told me a lot about the Academy."

If she had heard rumors that he became Genin in Oto while Saiya was head of family and Kage of Otogakure, that was about as close to confirmation as he would insinuate. But, it was also true... He did enjoy what Amaya showed him about the Academy, even though he wishes that the Chuunin whom ran the classes was a little...more considerate towards the students. The war rages, at the least, the children deserved what peace they could get while they are still part of a garden of innocence.

Golden eyes flickered back to the reddened parts of her face.

No sooner then right after his greatest success, Pakku encountered yet another hard knot. He squinted in deep anguish at the knot, as if staring it down would loosen it. Meanwhile Chisana had moved the lunch to a safe distance, and proceeded to move on to every tied up student and move it to the same area, slowly building her stockpile.

"Good luck with your knots everyone!." The boy said enthusiastically as he walked out the door of the class room. He probably could have aided with their lunches but his unaware of the situation, and with everyone's mouths covered by tape they couldn't call out for help. With his hunger sated it was now time to sate his curiosity. He swiftly walked down the halls of the academy with his feet leaving a sort of echoed tap in his wake. On the assumption that Obieko-sensei would not be expecting him for sometime the boy had determined to find out what Sakurayuki and Amaya were doing. Girl stuff probably, he thought to himself. He quietly checked some of the more obvious places where they might be found no trace of them. Eventually the boy found himself walking towards the target practice. He figured it was a long shot for them to have gone out there, they were probably just in the ladies room where he couldn't look. Still, it was possible that they wanted to sneak in a target practice session before class started.

To his surprise he found both the girls and a stranger. A man older than himself but younger than his father. He stood still for a moment silently watching the group. Amaya was busy training on the range and the strange man was talking to Skurayuki. He must come during a lull in their conversation as no one was saying anything.
"Hey Yuki-chan, Amaya-chan! Who's that guy?." He asked rather bluntly. He was somewhat curious as the man bore a resemble to Sakurayuki.

Though the girl was hoping for a bit of assistance because of her last throw, she wasn’t upset over it. At least it had been a kunai that she was throwing and not a shuriken; that would have truly been embarrassing. That is, it would have been shameful to have been doing so well just to up and fail. Luckily for her, though, that hadn’t been the case. Most children her age would have been nervous about their teachers or someone they respected, but Amaya wanted someone to witness when she made a mistake so that she could get the help she needed in order to right her miniscule wrongs. After all, what fun was it to jump out of the gate and be a master at anything? The learning process is half the fun! Or at least that was the Keiji’s opinion. She would never say that in front of her colleagues though because she knew that there were plenty of people who hated training with every fiber of her being. She just didn’t understand that but she also didn’t want to have to listen to someone rant about how terrible training was just because she enjoyed it.

Speaking of, the girl was still in the midst of her training and she needed to focus back in so that she could dispense of her last shuriken. Amaya was curious to see how she would transition from the kunai to the shuriken without instruction this time. She had done spectacularly the time before, but that was with Akeru’s watchful gaze. As she had done every time before, building those little rituals into her training in order to make them habits and easier to transition into, the child withdrew a shuriken from her side pouch. Amaya made note of the smooth metal beneath her thumb, enjoying the cool sensation on the warm day, before slipping into the comfortable position that she had witnessed behind the shop that day. A gentle breath passed through her lips as she prepared to throw it, but something went terribly wrong. The child jumped slightly as she came through with the weapon, causing it to cut into the ground half way between the child and the dummy. Looking over to the doorway, she saw not only Akeru and Sakura, but Shironaegi had also arrived and his somewhat loud greeting had startled the girl when she was focused on her training. The girl spared a gentle wave and a small smile in the boy’s direction, knowing that Sakura and Akeru could sort out the business of who “that guy” was. After all, Amaya had a task at hand and she was almost done anyways.
