RUNNINGPAW

ooc ;;

Runningpaw moved slowly from paw to paw as he watched his mentor's face. There had been a look on his face that Runningpaw knew. He had seen it in Orchidpaw a while ago. But for some reason the look raced away from Rainblast's face. It was good though. He didn't want his mentor to be sad. Even though he was happy that his mentor was no longer sad, he wasn't sure if he liked the look that replaced sadness in the blue eyes. It was... Well he didn't know what it was, but it was weird.
The tabby apprentice flopped his rump down on the ground and looked at Rainblast expectantly as the warrior began to speak. So he was sad. He thought as it was explained.
Runningpaw's eyes widened when Rainblast broke the news to him. That was why everyone was sad. The apprentice looked down at his paws. He felt bad now. He didn't feel any sadness. He didn't know Puresun. But he felt bad that he hadn't mourned. Dark blue eyes looked to the pretty she-cat beside his mentor as she addressed him. She sounded nervous. Runningpaw tilted his head. Why would she be nervous. "Oh... Should... Then should I be sad too?" He asked to no one in particular after the pretty she-warrior had finished speaking.

(( guild hiatus OVAH, THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW:

-It's the day of the medicine cat gathering, Rabbitfoot'll be gone
-The warriors are rebuilding the nursery, their herbs are alright
-There's plenty of twigs now due to all the old, fallen trees and such
-Sorry to make this about me but Puresun's vigil is still going to be held tonight seeing as she literally just died, and a day hasn't even passed wow we were on a really long hiatus lkjhfkj sorry ))

Guardianvow wordlessly helped the other warriors gather twigs to rebuild the nursery. He wasn't good at making things, but he went wherever his effort was needed. The Clan was busy with activity. Rabbitfoot was collecting his herbs, muttering to himself, and the kits were doing StarClan knows what, probably causing mischief of some sort.
Guardianvow flicked his eyes over to Shimmerstep and sighed. She seemed to glow even more brightly in his eyes. Puresun's death struck a chord deep inside him, and he felt the change resonating within himself.

Every life was precious. Every cat was dear. He didn't want to lose anyone else to this misfortune. What with Shimmerstep being pregnant, she was twice as dear to him. His pelt prickled at the thought of any harm coming to her.

LOCATION: Nightclan camp, near nursery

COMPANY: Charmingpaw, Guardianvow

OOC: Timber, feel free to have Guardi fly at him and claw his fur off cuz I presume he’s not mentally the most stable after Puresun’s death. Just trying to stir up some action XD

Due to the fact that Charmingpaw was an apprentice and not a kit, Ghostwhisper had more trouble carrying him than he would normally have done for a kit. On their way back from the borders of the ruined campsite and back to where everyone else was, the apprentice’s rump dragged along the ground, coating and caking his fur with mud. When he eventually let go of the apprentice’s scruff, he unceremoniously dumped the smaller tabby tom into the middle of camp and shot him an electric-blue glare. ”Come.” He only spoke one word to the smaller tom, and blinked at him before turning around to head towards the nursery, expecting him to follow. However, instead of making his way directly to the nursery, he walked around picking up fallen twigs from camp in his mouth, piling them up neatly in a spot near the nursery. The ground was still boggy and muddy (is it? O_o), so walking around took twice as much effort as usual. Ghostwhisper was careful not to too near to the nursery, as he was sure that the elders won’t be too happy about having him around. He did not say another word to Charmingpaw, as he expected his apprentice to follow his lead and start helping out instead of playing around with his friends. Whether or not he would actually do as he expected, Ghostwhisper had no idea. Not too far away, in a corner by herself, stood Envyfeather. Ghostwhisper did not know the female warrior well, but to him she always seemed to be sitting in a corner by herself, constantly in a sad and depressed attitude for some strange reason. However, since he did not know the she-cat well, who was he to judge that someone had a strange attitude? As far as he was aware, other cats did not think any better of him, especially some of the more superstitious clanmates who wanted nothing more than his throat slashed and his corpse lying in plain view.

Ghostwhisper grabbed a particularly thick and heavy branch and began to drag it towards the nursery. It was thick enough to be used as a base, which would provide it with a stronger foundation and making it less likely to topple. While dragging the thick branch, he cut his gaze towards the cats who were bustling around, each performing their own duties. Most seemed to be saddened by the loss of Puresun, and the whole camp had a depressing and grey atmosphere. Puresun’s deathdid not weigh as heavily on his heart as it did to other clanmates, since he had never been particularly close to her. She was one of the few unsuperstitious cats who did not hate him for his “curse” or his breathy and raspy voice, although they had never talked much, mostly because Ghostwhisper never talked if he could help it, and he kept himself as distant from others as possible.

Ghostwhisper had been too busy mulling over the death of Puresun that he failed to notice Guardianvow behind him. Unfortunately for the silvery-grey tom, Ghostwhisper happened to be dragging along a very long and very thick branch. He accidentally jabbed the end of his stick into Guardianvow’s ribs harshly, most likely giving him a painful bruise and driving the breath out of his lungs. Ghostwhisper immediately whipped his head around to see who he had walked into. Unfortunately, he momentarily forgot that he had a stick in his mouth, and whacked it painfully against the back of Guardianvow’s head when he turned his head around to look. Unlike what other cats would have done in this situation, Ghostwhisper stared at Guardianvow for a few heartbeats, blinked at him, then started dragging the stick in the opposite direction without so much as a “sorry”.

Guardianvow almost yowled when a sharp object jabbed him in the side, nearly knocking him off his feet. Just as the first wave of pain began to bear down on him, he was whacked from behind the head. He snarled, his fur rising, and his temper flared as pain throbbed through him.
He whipped around to see Ghostface's bug eyes staring at him. He was dragging a very long and very thick branch for no apparent reason.
He wanted to snap at the tom, or perhaps rake his claws down Ghostwhisper's side, but he tried to calm himself. He remembered Puresun's death, remembered how he promised himself he'd appreciate life more, and begrudgingly swallowed his anger.
He couldn't really see how such a giant branch would be helpful in any way, but someone needed to stick to this tom and make sure he didn't whack anyone else with it. He padded to the tom's side and began helping him carry the heavy branch wordlessly.

reamer's hisper: Envy's first revival post :3 <3 I just love this cat~ xD So derp yeah...all her posts include her emoing over Noblebutt

Envyfeather blinked warily, unsure of how to answer the crest-fallen tom. I mean, how could one of the most depressing cats in the clan brighten a confused apprentice’s mood?

She could barely help herself as it is.

Still, some little spark of her old, energetic, and cheerful self seemed to flicker in the empty abyss of lamenting melancholy known as her heart.

This was Rainblast’s new apprentice after all…Envyfeather knew she had to help in some way, if to at least improve her brother’s unhappy attitude.

While her sadness was one thing, she couldn’t imagine her usually upbeat brother mourning and grief-stricken…it hurt to even think of life without his comfort and smile.

”Ehm…N-no Runningpaw…those w-who’ve known Puresun w-will feel the p-pain of her l-l-loss…but…it doesn’t m-mean you s-should g-grieve too much as w-well…I think h-honoring her w-would be enough…and…really…a cheerful and o-optimistic attitude would do N-NightClan g-good…w-we can’t have a-all this sadness w-weaken us…right?”

Hypocrite…

A little voice in the back of her head jeered cruelly, obviously reflecting on her own state of emotion lately. Sure, Envyfeather had gone through so much pain in her life… The loss of her mother, Shatteredfang; a she-cat who, if anything, regretted having kits and probably wished her own daughter was never born. Than, there was Darkshadow, a father who certainly had loved her…but…of course, he backstabbed her mother and had another forbidden affair with some SeaClan she-cat…

Her foster-mother was somecat Envyfeather held dear and looked up to...healing her once displaced jaw and fixing it so it healed nicely...despite the slight crookedness about it.

Of course, all that love and "motherly affection"...well being a mother at all...well...it had all been a fraud and Hauntedheart was simply pretending…

Pretending she could mother her and her siblings.

Pretending she would take care of them as her own.

Pretending to keep on a sad facade in the hopes of the young kits to live blindly without any idea of her their real mother was.

Did she pretend to love them too?

The selfish she-cat left the clans without a single glance at her and her brothers...

Envyfeather couldn’t ask her if she wanted to, knowing the former medicine-cat ran off with an exiled warrior to who knows where.

...

It was funny really…her whole life was just one impractical joke…or…well…a lie, if you may.

But…

The last straw was her beloved...Nobleheart.

They were childhood friends.

An inseparable pair.

A match made in StarClan.

They had shared many memories of joy, laughter, and the bliss of kithood…but…

Happiness doesn’t last.

He was brutally killed and left to the ranks of StarClan, taking her heart with him.

While Envyfeather considered suicide or death several times…she couldn’t.

Perhaps she was too much of a coward.

Or, she was simply afraid to die.

But it was neither.

Simply, she couldn’t leave.

It was such a selfish desire, to end it all and join Nobleheart. She couldn’t just outright walk out on such a precious life bestowed on her by her late mother and StarClan. Not to mention the thought of her siblings and what their reactions would be.

But, for some strange reason, the pretty chocolate and white tabby found it in herself to give some words of encouragement and endearment to the young apprentice before her. While she herself should take some of her own advice, Envyfeather still clung to illusion of paradise…perhaps in a struggle to convince herself that in some way, Nobleheart and herself could still be together.

Sighing mentally, she she-cat blinked towards Runningpaw with a small and, if you looked hard enough, encouraging smile as she regarded him with thoughtful sapphire-violet eyes.

”Now...I t-think we should help with the camp r-repairs…th-there’s debris everywhere and…w-well..if you t-two don’t mind…of course…”

With that, Envyfeather gave Rainblast an affectionate lick to the cheek that seemed to portray her feelings, reading,

Don’t worry brother…we’ll get through this somehow…

The young warrior she-cat padded towards the shapes of Ghostwhisper and Guardianvow, albeit timidly and uncertain.

”Ehm…uhm…N-Need any h-help…?”

She felt like an idiot, asking that and what not. The NightClan toms looked perfectly capable…ish. Envyfeather wasn’t sure of what to do to exactly help out either.

A twinge of emotional strife struck the graceful she-cat as her gaze flickered towards the silver-gray tabby, Guardianvow.

He looked so much like…him

                                          Ghostwhisper was not surprised at all when the silvery warrior yowled in fury, whipping around to hiss at him. With the huge and sharp stick still in his mouth, which has now been turned into a lethal weapon in Ghostwhisper's unlucky jaws, the only reaction that was gauged from the masked "bringer of misfortune" was another blink from his pale blue eyes. It was just another instance where his title among the elders and the more superstitious members of the clan had become fitting, as misfortune had indeed befallen Guardianvow.

                                          To the masked warrior's surprise, however, the silver tom with the infamous foul temper did not yowl or rake his claws down his snowy side, as Ghostwhisper had been fully preparing himself for. Rather, he wordlessly padded towards him and picked up the end of the giant stick. If Ghostwhisper was surprised, he didn't quite show it. Another lengthy and slightly awkward staring contest with the grumpy warrior, and the black and white tom was off, starting to drag the huge branch towards the edge of the flooded camp site.

                                          The two toms had not gotten further than a few pawsteps before the tabby warrior Envyfeather made her way up to them, offering her helping paw. Noticing her gaze flicker towards Guardianvow, Ghostwhisper immediately assumed that she would rather offer her assistance towards the other tom rather than himself. "Clearing the camp site." The broken rasp sounded from his throat, in answer to the tabby she-cat's question. Seeing that they still had a lot of ground to clear and a few dens to rebuild, they should be in for a long day before sitting vigil for Puresun.

Only you can be

_______________________________________________

Guardianvow noticed Ghostwhisper pausing and almost dragged the branch out of his mouth. He unsheathed his claws to get a foothold in the loose ground before his silver eyes flicked up to Envyfeather's face.
Immediately an uneasiness fell over him. The she-cat had always looked at him with this weird sort of longing. She knew very well that he and Shimmerstep were happy mates, but here she was, staring at him like that. Well, not staring really, she only glanced at him for a moment, but he had seen such intense emotion flash through her eyes. He was praying to StarClan it wasn't what he thought it was, and that she wouldn't dare try and confess whatever she was feeling for him. He couldn't put his paw on it, but somehow rejecting her would make him very upset.
Of course, with all of this considered, he had to hold the urge to tell her to get lost. He didn't want her around making things awkward, that was for certain, but he also didn't want to assume the worst and end up being completely wrong. Ghostwhisper's vague answer didn't help the situation, either. So he flicked his ears, glancing away, and dropped the stick for a moment to mutter,
"You can help us if you want."
Perhaps that was too vague as well. Guardianvow wasn't sure...he just didn't know what to say! The only warriors who had ever made him feel this awkward were Poisonpetal, his old mentor, and Shimmerstep, and he had gotten over that with both of them. He picked the stick up again and paused, waiting for the she-cat to make a move.

Rainblast narrowed his eyes with surprise, then should I be sad too?. The question was so innocent. Kind of sweet really. But he wasn't quite sure how to respond to it. But it seemed that he didn't need to because his sister was jumping on the tail, so to speak. His sister had a point though. Those who knew Puresun would grieve enough to compensate for those who didn't. "Exactly. I know you've at least seen her. So just remember the good things about her and that's good enough. You don't need to be sad just because other cats are." He agreed.

The tabby warrior looked towards Envyfeather and chuckled. "Of course. The sooner we can clear everything away, the sooner we can start living somewhat normally again." He said, blinking sweetly at his sister before she padded away. Stay strong Envyfeather. He said mentally before looking towards his apprentice.

Standing up, he flicked Runningpaw's shoulder. "Alright. Let's see if we can't make ourselves useful."

Brooktail
Even though I've seen my family die right infront of my eyes,
It means that I know what lies ahead for me in life.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Brooktail slowly looks around the clearing. She knew that some of the cats really didn't care for her, but she had to remain calm. The silver, gray she-cat walks over to where everyone was. Brooktail wasn't quite sir as to what to do or if they even wanted her help at all. Glancing up at the sky, the she-cat couldn't help but wonder if her brother Toadstool was watching over her like he used to do when they were just kits. Sighing to herself, Brooktail looks at the rest of her clan mates. "Do you need any help?" Brooktail asks them as she walks over to where they all were at.
                                          OOC: Welcome to the guild :3 And yes, Ghostwhisper is very weird.
                                          While Guardianvow busied himself with conversing with Envyfeather, Ghostwhisper saw himself as in the way, and started hauling the ridiculously thick branch away. The tip of the branch made a deep trench in the mud, adding to the drag and resistance. Ghostwhisper's black paws were drenched in mud by the time he finally made it to the edge of camp and dumped the thick branch in a spot where no cat would trip over it, and where it would not be in the way.
                                          When he made his way back to the center of camp, he heard Brooktail asking if they needed help with anything. He thought it was strange that these cats could not seem to find work to occupy themselves when there was so much repairing work to be done. The dens needed rebuilding, the medicine cat's den needed to be reconstructed, and they were in dire need for fresh kill. The mask-patterned tom walked through the mud up to Brooktail, all the while giving her a long, unblinking icy-blue stare. "Hunt." His ruined vocal chords painfully rasped the single word out, after which he had to swallow a few times to soothe his painful throat. Hopefully that single worded response was clear enough, the clan had to be fed and they were running low on fresh kill. He wasn't too sure if the she-cat would be okay with him joining her, since he didn't know her too well and has almost never talked to her. However, it was common knowledge that most cats in Nightclan feared either his strange colouring, or his hoarse and raspy voice, or the rumour that he brought bad luck to those around him. Or for all three reasons.
                                          Ghostwhisper flicked an eye towards the sky, casting a cyan gaze at the lowering sun. They still had quite a good length of time before the sun set, which would be when Puresun's vigil starts and the medicine cats head to the Moonpool for their gathering. Cats generally hunted better at night, but with prey scarce as it is after the flood, they couldn't afford to be picky when they were in dire need of prey.
Brooktail looks over her shoulder at Ghostwhisper when he said for her to hunt. She just dipped her head at him and then turns to head out of the clearing. The silver, gray she-cat was wondering why the tom was coming with her anyways. They never really talked to each other, but perhaps maybe this day might be the chance they would be able to chat. But Brooktail couldn't think abou that right now. The clan need to be red and that's just what she was going to do. "Are you coming Ghostwhisper?" the she-cat asked as she was about to leave the clearing in order to hunt.
                                          Ghostwhisper had been meaning to turn away and head back to camp to continue doing whatever he was doing, which was to drag away the fallen sticks, when Brooktail asked him if he was coming along to hunt. As the mask-patterned tom turned towards her, he fixed her with a blank and very unnerving cyan stare. She was asking if he wanted to come along? Not many cats in Nightclan would ask him that, especially if most of them were scared dungless of him. Except Puresun, but she was dead and gone now. Most of the other warriors in the clan were busy minding their own business, and the clan needed to be fed so there was no time to dwell on the details. ”Yes.” He rasped shortly in his broken voice as he padded towards Brooktail, his ice-blue eyes blank and rather unnerving to look at. He began to walk behind her to let her lead the way out of camp, while glancing back at Charmingpaw to make sure that his apprentice was pulling his own weight. From what he could see...he wasn’t. ”Charmingpaw.” He called in a hoarse whisper to his apprentice, but his broken voice doesn’t travel very far and he highly doubted that the unpredictable newly apprenticed young tom heard him. Ghostwhisper turned and fixed his unblinking and blank stare at Charmingpaw, wordlessly yowling for him to come along and make himself useful by hunting...and hoping it worked.
[hearing a hoarse voice calling his name, the apprentices gray eyes wandered over to where his mentor was, looking how he usually did. Irritated. What had He ever done to deserve such a foul Tom for a mentor? Rolling his eyes, Charmingpaw padded over to Ghostwhisper.]
"What?"[he said, imitating the hoarse touch that his mentor had in his own voice. Might as well get a kick out of this.]
-eugh, i'll get used to posting again eventually o: btw it is pine-eyes not pinepaw -
Pine-eyes gave a disgusted grunt as he trotted his way across Nightclan's clearing, a bundle of twigs awkwardly shuffling to and fro between his teeth. His underbelly fur was twisted and blended with clumps of mud and various other debris that he'd rather not think about and the fur around his paws were brown, stiff locks that sometimes crackled as the mud dried and broke off, only to be refreshed with a new layer of mud from a wandering puddle. The misery was unbearable, piled upon the continued casualties that were piling upon Nightclan. A small malicious thought prayed that the other clans were suffering just as so. So unfair otherwise. The sticks rattled in his jaws and echoed infuriatingly into his brain, and he spitefully bit down harder, sputtering the bundle out as one of them snapped and splintered the side of his mouth. Green eyes jerking wide open in surprise, a round of swears were hissed out as the pain began to register in his nerves. "Foxin' mousin' twoleg' dirt...!" Pine-eyes continued, his voice muffling slightly as he felt over the small wound with his tongue. A small jag of wood stuck out on the inside of his cheek like a lone tree in a field, and he groaned at the impossibility of the task to get it out later.
So many things were piling up on top of each other, Pine-eyes began to find that he wouldn't be surprised if patches of his fur would start to clump and fall out next.
Now thoroughly stressed, Pine-eyes deliberately gathered his bundle back together and stalked over to drop them in the thatch pile. He glanced over to meet a few appalled looks of the overhearing cats and shook his head. His gaze lingered over Envyfeather and Rainblast, the hostility in it lowering a notch and even kind of lightening to a small embarrassed burn as he realized the presence of his Rainblast's kits. It's nothing they hadn't heard before, he reasoned momentarily as he hurriedly dropped the sticks onto the pile. Hearing the prospect of hunting, Pine-eyes perked his ears. "Right, I'll come along then." With a quick bound he caught up to Brooktail, teetering slightly to the edge of the small path as Ghostwhisper followed after. Unnerving as always, but decidedly he'd rather be out hanging with a lost soul than sitting in camp. The splinter in his cheek throbbed.
Brooktail
Even though I've seen my family die right infront of my eyes,
It means that I know what lies ahead for me in life.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Brooktail turns her head around to look at Ghostwhisper as he was trying to ge his apprentice Charmingpaw to come. The she-cat could tell the apprentice didn't like having Ghostwhisper as his mentor from the tone of his voice. But Brooktail could not do anything since Charmingpaw was not her apprentice. Shaking her head, the she-cat notices that Pine-eyes was coming over. She wasn't sure if he was going to hunt with them or not. "Pine-eyes are coming to go hunting with us?" Brooktail asks him as he was coming over to her. The fluffy, silver, gray she-cat then glances down at her pelt as well as her paws. So much wet mud as well as dried mud was caked onto her.

So much to go through in one lifetime,
Just not enough time to live in it.
