"Oh, yes! Thank you." Maovu answered quickly. Several toys cheered and began to dance on their shelves. A white skinned little vampire doll dropped onto Duraz's shoulder. "I, Valtheir, shall accompany you." He declared with the authority of a creature many times his size. "You're not the high priest." The nasty winged doll spat. "Shut up, Valatar! We all know you're just jealous." The other dolls cried. Maovu was too giddy to notice the argument that ensued. She gently kissed Duraz's cheek and stood up. "Shall we go then?" She asked.

Duraz blushed as she kissed him "Y-yes of course." He gently placed the doll onto the floor and stood up. He gently held Maovu's hand as he openned the door to the main street. All outside cared not for the two as they stepped out and began to walk to a nearby cafe.

Maovu could not find words to describe the way she felt. The world didn't seem quite so dark and the people seemed a little less broken. The dolls called Valatar and Valthier dashed out to follow at their mistress's heels and bicker childishly with each other. Maovu only smiled at Duraz. The two entered the cafe and sat down at a private little table in the corner. Most of the other patrons attempted to disguise their concern and became almost comically engrossed in everything but the strange couple. The waiters drew straws to see who would have to take their order. The unfortunate loser walked slowly and spoke soflty in a bid to keep the pair calm. Maovu was too busy fussing with her hair to care.

Duraz looked quickly at the waiter and said calmly "Just some coffee, if you don't mind." Duraz looked around the room and every so often sniggered to himself. He turned to Maovu "I have learnt a few things about you, yet you know so little about me. Please feel free to ask what you will and I shall answer to the best of my knowledge." He noticed the waiter return with their drinks and smiled broadly at them, the waiter shivered slightly as they left to the breakroom where, as Duraz had guessed, they would try to forget.

Maovu stared into her coffee for a few moments before asking. "Who are you really? I mean, what do you do?" It hadn't occurred to her how little she actually knew. Duraz was like an old prayer suddenly answered, without explanation. Maovu wasn't sure what to do. All her life she had wished for a friend and now that she had one she had no idea how to handle it. "Why did you come to me?" She asked in a hushed tone.

Duraz thought about the questions "Who am I really? Even I don't know my full name. As for what I do," He put his head on his hand "I free people from their worries and their whims, using my power. The reason I came to you is simple, we are the same. We both know this world won't get any better unless we fix the problem, you fix people's bodys and I fix their minds." He sipped his coffee then looked at it for a brief moment "Not bad, could use some more sugar." He absentmindedly took several lumps of sugar and stirred them into his drink. He took another sip and sighed "Much better."

Maovu could only gape at first. "You're perfect." She said in disbelief. Maovu hadn't dared to dream such a person existed. Duraz understood her cause and had the ability to help. Maovu had completely forgotten her coffee but her dolls had already begun fighting over it. They wrestled all over the table, cursing like tiny sailors.

"You should understand, no one has secrets from me, you see that person in the purple robe." He pointed into the corner of the room at a young drow male who was having lunch with a young women. "He owns a book store and his profits have gone towards a small group of Llothites, who plan to kill the lord of this city." He then looked at the girl "She on the other hand is an assasin who was hired by a priest to kill him." He turned back to Maovu "He will invite her back to his home and she will kill him and track down his contacts, they will then be slaughtered. Though I don't think she'll be able to accomplish that." He took another sip of his coffee.

Maovu glared at the other customers. "These people are broken and we are the only ones who can fix them. We will make a perfect world." She turned to Duraz and smiled again. "A safe place." She brushed her fingers lightly over his lips.

Duraz blushed, then held her hand "Its true they are broken and need to be fixed, I have seen the future of this world and it is grim. But once we succeed it will be far better." Durza leaned closer to Maovu and drew his lips nearer to her's.

Maovu closed her eyes and pressed her mouth against his. Her hands crept over his shoulders and pulled him into another embrace. The whole city could have been on fire and Maovu wouldn't have given it a thought. When she broke the kiss, Maovu felt cold and vulnerable. She looked at Duraz with eyes half closed. Her body held an unfamiliar tingle.

Durza smiled at Maovu, he had never felt this way for another person and he knew why, out of all the people he had met she was the only one who understood him. He cared not for the people and their plots, he only cared about Maovu now and he would do all in his power to keep her happy.

Maovu sighed. "Let's go home. I've had such a long day." She rose from her seat. The dolls were moving slowly now. They clung to the hem of the puppet master's skirt. Walking on their own would consume too much energy. Maovu tossed a few coins on the table. The waiters valued their lives too much to complain.

Duraz followed suit and walked from the cafe with Maovu "I have just realized." He said as they walked back to the shop "We have both taken something from the dead, though of course for different reasons." He stretched his back slightly, causing a small crack.

Maovu cocked her head to one side. "Please explain." They strolled leisurely back to the toy shop. Maovu led Duraz to the pile of cushions and blankets that served as her bed and flopped down in the mass of pillows.
