Amaya frowned. "Oh... I see. Yeah." She shifted her weight again, a large hand coming up to hold the wolfman's shoulder. "I'm sorry... but... I made it out okay... I think." She forced a sad smile.

"Besides, I doubt you have much changing left to do." He looked pretty lupine as it was... but then she remembered Pyroth and swallowed hard, her tail twitching nervously.

He nodded. "Honest, Amaya... seeing you has made me feel a little better... I really don't think that your changes are that bad - I know you probably disagree.... but the important things are there... you can stand up, you have hands, you can talk.... and most importantly you still are you-" He tapped the side of her head with his finger. "Up there."

He shrugged. "But the fact that I'm.... so far already... that worries me. I thought, I was talkign with Pyroth.." He flinched as well when he thought of the other canine. "that perhaps the last injection was just a ... 'stabilizer' like how the first one we didn't change, just got ready for it." He shook his head. "Apparently that's not the case." An ear flicked back.

The lizard went silent, thinking. "Maybe... they tried something different on Pyroth. Or something messed up with his injection." But she couldn't think of anything else to make him feel better.

She sat farther up, her feet gripping the end of the bed to keep her from slipping. "I don't know why I can't talk loud anymore... and at first, I didn't think I could stand." She frowned, looking down at her chest. "'Cause I'm top heavy, I guess. But thankfully Alec was here and he helped me up. The tail helps a lot too."

"Alec, eh?" He remembered the mohawk'd teen from the football game and the drinking party, and remembered him spending some time with Amaya. He gave her a knowing smile. "I'm glad to hear that. And... from what I hear from the labs, they didn't expect Pyroth to change... quite that much." He shooks his head with a sigh.

"I guess... only time will tell, but now I feel as if there's this great doomsday clock ticking. I shouldn't have asked... but I needed to know. At least then I'll finally have a ... face that I can get used to - something that I won't have this awkward notion of once I do finally grow accustomed to it will change on me again." He shrugged.

"I'll be honest... I'm scared of what's going to happen to me. But... you are a reassurence. I just am worried that I'll go farther than you after seeing Pyroth."

Amaya nodded silently, agreeing with what was said. She supposed she'd have to get used to this... whether she wanted to or not. A frown spread on her scaley features once more, the dread she felt about her future welling up inside her.

Alec would never love her with how horrible she looked. Or anyone for that matter, aside from just being friends. But the feeling of emptiness grew in her chest every day and she knew it wouldn't fill until she had someone who loved her.

Though she said nothing, lost on words as she dwelled on her own woes. No longer did she doubt her feelings for Alec, but she would never voice them and never act on it. Why should she bother when she knew he didn't feel the same way?

Ambrose noted the frown on her face and sighed, shaking his head. "I'm sorry. I've been doing my best to keep a positive attitude since the whole engagement thing started - I mean, there's so much to focus on that's good and I still find myself thinking about the pessimistic things, and that just gets other people down, too."

Ambrose, as much as a good sibling he wanted to be however, was unaware of the unrequited feelings goign through Amaya's chest.

The teen blinked, as if snapping out of a daze. "Huh? Oh. It's not your fault. The cons normally outweigh the pros, so it's kinda natural if you think about it." Gah, what was she saying? Did that even make any sense? She sighed and rubbed up and down her long snout, trying to get herself back into what the conversation was really about.

He shrugged. "I suppose it's a matter of perspective." he rolled his shoulders and moved back to a sitting position. He missed the optimistic Amaya...

His ears pricked suddenly and he looked over towards the door before they crumpled back against his head. "I hear one of the jeeps.." He said quietly. "Either there's a new face here or.... somthing else."

Amaya froze, a lump quickly growing in her throat. She couldn't hear it yet, but she was already panicking. Despite the fact it could be something totally irrelavent to her, the labs scared her... a lot. She held her breath, eyes wide and staring at the door. "C-Can you hear what they're doing...?" Her tongue flickered and her tail shook anxiously.

Ambrose sat up straighter, his ears pricking again and he lifted his head.

"The motor's cutting off.... footsteps..."

His ears drooped suddenly and he got to his feet, suddenly looking mildly anxious himself.

It was then that the footsteps at the door and a knock was even audible to Amaya's hearing.

"And.... they... uhm... are here..." Ambrose finished, stating the obvious.

Yellow eyes stared at the door, even as the knock sounded out. But after the last word left Ambrose's mouth she was on her feet and bolting under the bed.

RUN! HIDE! PREDATORS!

The fear she held in her human brain coupled with the fear of a cornered animal, her rational thought shut off to instinct. Her body hunkered underneath her bed, tail curling around her as she stared blankly at the door.

The fact they could just put her to sleep and drag her out or look at the cameras was irrelavent right now.

Ambrose dithered, feeling distinctly uncomfortable in Amaya's duplex with a staffmember at the door. Ambrose wasn't nearly as wary of the staff as Amaya was, but it certainly wasn't his duplex or his right to answer the door - let alone he didn't want to be the one responsible for compromising Amaya's sanctum.

"Amaya... I'm sure... it's alright.." Ambrose tried to calm her, kneeling by her hiding spot, but didn't sound all too convincing.

There was another, this time more forceful, knock on the door.

The wolfman's voice was just a muffled murmur to her ears, all her attention focused on the door and what was behind it. The iguana seemed to have taken over as the dewlap on her neck expanded and her lungs filled with air to make herself look bigger.

A loud, distinctly reptilian hiss escaped her open mouth towards the door and her tail swayed slowly back and forth from the bed, ready and equiped to swat at anything threatening that got near.

After a long pause a perceptible sigh was heart from the other side of the door and the handle turned. Unlocked, it swung open, revealing a tall, dark-clad doctor with shock-white hair pulled back into a messy ponytail.

His gaze swept the room and then his arms crossed and his eyes rolled.

"This is none of your concern, wolfman. You can leave. Miss Vaughan... I need to take you for a little ride."

Ambrose's ears flattened and he subconsciously whimpered, his tail tucking as he scooted back. He had never met this doctor before, but he had heard him described from more than one other islander - almost never in a positive light. And there was just something about the man that set his fur on edge.

"What do you need with Amaya...?" He finally found his voice.
