Fina Xanth

PostPosted: Wed Aug 23, 2006 2:15 pm

Fina felt the 'call for help' that Jami had sent to her, but she knew she couldn't just leave the council chamber. She thought for a moment about it, and then decided to reach out with her perceptions to find out what it was that Jami needed help with. If it was at the front of the temple there were only a few things he could possibly need help with, but she decided that she'd narrow the choices down further...

She sensed only Jami, and guessed that maybe he merely needed to ask her a question. After this, she came to the conclusion that she'd have to speak with him after she was finished speaking with Sephiroth...

Jami felt the contact with Fina break, and he sighed patiently. He understood if Fina had to do something, and he could wait. The young Padawan turned back to the Yuuzhan Vong with a nod. "I've contacted someone who might be able to aid you far more than I can. She should be here in a little while." There was a long pause, then Jami spoke carefully. "If you don't mind me asking - and you don't have to answer this if you don't want to - why do the Yuuzhan Vong despise technology so much?"

† Lielich raised his head, slowly, and allowed his milky eyes to meet those of the man. His voice was low and dangerous.
"Your people are young, and naive. There is a natural progression to technology. A people make tools to aid them with work. Then, they make tools to take over the work. The people become fat, and lethargic, and their idle hands become spoiled with wealth and ease. A person who does not make does not earn, and so has no concept of true possession. A person who lacks that concept will take what does not belong to them, and becomes consumed with greed."
Lielich shook his head.
"Imagine an entire people who sat fat atop technology, only to consume what did not belong to them in order to power their machines. Planet after planet, consuming resources and minerals and enslaving people simply to live comfortably."
He paused for a moment. "That is what your people will eventually become; haughty and born to wealth and ease."
Lielich grimaced with a jolt of pain. "The Yuuzhan Vong were enslaved by people like that. They subjugated us in order to rape our living planet of its resources. They beat us down with technology, so that we could feed their machines with our labor.
"We struck back. We became a people of war, and destroyed their machines, vowing to never allow ourselves to become as our slavers. We led a crusade across our entire galaxy to destroy machines, and were successful."
He grinned slightly. "Does that answer your question?" †

"Very adequately." Jami nodded, his silvery eyes twinkling. He wondered where Fina was, but didn't push it. The young man turned back to the Yuuzhan Vong warrior. "But though you don't use metal machines, you still use tools." He nodded to the amphistaff as an example. "Wouldn't using another creature for your own benefits be slavery?"

† Lielich scoffed.
"Slavery?" He raised his milky eyes to his amphistaff, and carressed it gently. "My 'objects' and I are one. My armor protects me, and I sustain it by sharing my blood with it. My amphistaff obeys me, and likewise I sustain it as well. Without them I am not me, but something of another, lower Caste. We are symbiotic. They were created for me, and I was forged to bear them. We define eachother, and that definition whispers of unity; unlike that of you and your's." †

Jami's eyes twinkled brightly, and he spoke in an even softer tone. "What I've read about the Yuuzhan Vong War says that a priest once told Master Skywalker that after the ancient Yuuzhan Vong defeated the two technological menaces, they went on a crusade throughout the galaxy and enslaved or killed every other species due to their xenophobia and technophobia. And you claim that they wanted to break free from the enslavement of the other two races. What the ancient Yuuzhan Vong did is the exact same thing."

† Lielich was about to respond disdainfully, when the realization of what the man said suddenly hit him like a thermal detonation.
"You have read of the Yuuzhan Vong? How is that possible? You must be lying! Who is this Skywalker? My people have only just arrived in your galaxy!"
Lielich was shaking, and it wasn't because of his ailment.
My god, how long was I in hibernation? he thought in shock. †

Jami cocked his head at the Yuuzhan Vong in confusion. "Only just arrived in the galaxy? That's impossible. The Yuuzhan Vong War ended over ninety years ago. Master Skywalker was the one who eventually defeated you all, though I don't know all the details. Even he's been dead for years. Where have you been?"

† Lielich gasped, and his grip tightened on his amphistaff.
He shook his head in disbelief. "Are there... any left?" †

Jami thought for a long moment, trying to remember what he had read. The Yuuzhan Vong war was relatively recent, and he was far more interested with ancient history than recent history. Still, he did remember one thing.

"It's possible. Many of the Yuuzhan Vong, however, left on the sentient planet Zenoma Sekot several decades ago. I haven't seen a Yuuzhan Vong in person until I met you. But it's possible that some are wandering the galaxy as you are."

† Lielich shook his head in disbelief. He coughed, and blood splattered on the ground once again.
Lielich wiped a shakey hand across his mouth.
"I need medical care, fast." He was beginning to sound desperate. †

Jami hesitated for a long moment. The Yuuzhan Vong seemed to be in critical condition, and he wasn't sure if bacta would work. "We have medical treatment, but only by Jedi and droids...."

Bertus walks down the main hall, reflecting all he heard from maniac in the ball, when he senses what happened over there... someone activated the balls security system... and it really did what maniac said.. while the poor dude was still in there. So, finally, maniac was dead, and the TA seems to be knocked off before it really did anything, exept that one battle.... Finally Bertus could go back to the jedi life, and the other problems that bothered the galaxy.

"What a sad end for a good jedi... perhaps he could have been saved, but well, it is over... now we might be able to convince the TA to join us... they are nowhere without them"

Sephiroth nodded to Fina, finalising their agreement on the first matter. Shifting his weight in his seat, then leaning back into his seat, relieving the tension in the room as they moved onto the next topic, one of less seriousness. The confirmation of a Jedi's Padawan by the Jedi Council was merely a formality and rarely there was any objection, except in the most serious of cases. From what Sephiroth could tell, this was not one of those.

So, you wish to train Eldin, yes? I see no problem with that, unless you have already begun training another...

Fina merely gave a nod. "I haven't begun training another. The young man in the elevator calls me Master though I haven't said I would train him as a Padawan yet. He said he was in search of a Master so I told him to follow me while I handled the situation with that Icarian."
