im a flute player too! im kinda new to this guild, so i dont really have much to say at the moment. and i know how you feel! i did this junior band thing last year. we get to go play songs with highschoolers during a basketball game. it was really fun, and i made some good friends from it, but it felt like everyone else was a better flutist than i was. even the other middle schoolers

eek Oh. My. God. I do that too. Well, the first time I did that was last year, but I plan on doing it every year now, it's so fun!

But you shouldn't feel intimidated. I mean, at one point the high schoolers who are so good were once feeling intimidated as well. Well, some maybe not, but the point is one day you will be as great as those high schoolers, and maybe even wish you weren't so shy/scared of back then-high school people! biggrin

Although that does make sense, the whole gender thing is sterotypical. We people think that flutes would be better for females because of how it's higher pitched and "sweeter", and big brass instruments for boys because of size and loud sound. I personally think it depends on the player at hand, and their comfort and playability.

Well, us girls have made SOME progress in the band world. Still, we're not forced to play flute, and guys are are not forced not to. When you look at any other instrument, u can imagine a guy or a girl playing it. But not so much with a flute. And the only brass instrument i can think of thats more guy inclined is the tuba, simply because we're smart enough to know it would be a pain in the neck to carry around.

Haha good point! Even then to me brass is like impossible to play. But whatever. xp

I prefer to think that us flute players are simply more evolved than to have the notion that brass is for tough people. The mere fact that we have to swab our instruments out is a testimony to our supirior intellect. Also, we have three parts that we have to put together, whereas most brass players only have the mouth piece to stick on.

(I dont really mean to stereo type brass players , it just came out like that.)

Ah. Well people who can play brass usually have a thin upper lip, as I've noticed. While with wind people I think it's the opposite so that no air escapes without a fight. rofl

does ur band director call u "flutitutties"? Ours does. Well then all the other instruments wanted their names, so the french horns became the "F-horns" even though we tried to get them to be the frenchys. We still call them the frenchys.

Hahaha! But no. But what my band director DOES do is call the baritones "barely-a-tones" and tubas "tubAAAHs"

our tubas are really stupid. Every time they mess up and the band teacher starts getting on to them, they all start snickering stupidly. Yeah, REEAL smart. Their like crab and goyle from harry potter.

I really dont no wat to talk about right now but hey im a random person so i'll come up with somethin heart
PostPosted: Fri Jul 24, 2009 9:36 am

Goddess: That doesn't really happen in band with me, sine if someone's going to laugh at what my b.d. says, it's everyone else except for who's getting lectured.

xXb: Awwww, why do you get sad??

EmO: Well that's good! With this guild there are random threads for every forum, and with that it's easy to relate, so you'll get into this guild quickly! 3nodding

Haha, random! I'm random too. I guess when you're new and you want to post on a big thread it's OK to introduce yourself, although just saying "Flutes ROCK!" doesn't let anyone know about your personality. Overall, since you are new it's okay if you don't know what to talk about! So no worries!

The other flutes in my school are mean, preppy people perfectionists with no sympathy for girls who havent been playing as long as they have and make me said sad im switching back to clarinet.. sad

but my soul will always play the flute.

JTR: You mean extemely well xp ... I'm picky, what can I say? Yes, piccolos are the worst at tuning both itself and other instruments.

No I haven't. What are they??

M_c: Awwww that's so sad! Clarinet's okay (I played it once upon a time) but flute's fun! Ignore those mean perfectionists! I am a perfectionist, but I refrain from annoying other people about it. Ignore them, they were once crappy flutists so they shouldn't be talking.

Oh, by the way, for your dream avi I think Yokai's Treasure(club) would be better on your avi. But I might be wrong.

to ravent kitty: sorry...i suck at grammer..lol hmm...maybe i should post a topic with it called "the ten flute commandments" so be on the look out for it

to medieval crayon: i know what you're going through...for our jazz band, my direvtor needed another trombone and i volunteered. at first the others didnt like the fact that i wasnt getting the instrument quick enough, but i kept trying until one day i started getting better and i got switched from 3rd to 2nd..but i had to go back cuz not enough people were on 3rd lol but i didnt mind! i liked the feeling that i am better than what i thought! i hope these words inspire you to go back to flute and maybe go for piccolo biggrin
