I was wondering if there were any boy flutists! There's absolutely none in our band! xd

Thts 'cause they all seem gay and there is extreme predjudice against them. with good reason of course. Actually though, James Galway is one of the best flutist in the world and hes a guy.

I know!! My flute teacher is a graduate from high school and he is NOT gay! And yeah, although when my mom mentioned him (he's playing at Ravinia Festival), I didn't know who he was! gonk

But now I do! Yay!

i know that theres a lot of good guy flutist out there, but i still unitentionally look at them funny. the flute is pretty much the only instrument that is ment for one gender. well not ment for it exactly, but its still kind of a girl instrument.

Although that does make sense, the whole gender thing is sterotypical. We people think that flutes would be better for females because of how it's higher pitched and "sweeter", and big brass instruments for boys because of size and loud sound. I personally think it depends on the player at hand, and their comfort and playability.

Well, us girls have made SOME progress in the band world. Still, we're not forced to play flute, and guys are are not forced not to. When you look at any other instrument, u can imagine a guy or a girl playing it. But not so much with a flute. And the only brass instrument i can think of thats more guy inclined is the tuba, simply because we're smart enough to know it would be a pain in the neck to carry around.

Haha good point! Even then to me brass is like impossible to play. But whatever. xp

A girl that plays the barritone she was trying out for district and burped in her
horn! It was so funny, I honestly don't like brass and low brass.:/

Ahhh, that's sounds just like me... Except when I first joined band in 5th grade I played the clarinet. But the similarity is that my friend convinced to play flute with her.

I am a guy flute player... I'm nowhere near gay, and when i started playing nobody asked if i was. idk if they thought i was or knew for a fact that i wasn't, or what? But yes there are guy flute players, not many...but we are here

I prefer to think that us flute players are simply more evolved than to have the notion that brass is for tough people. The mere fact that we have to swab our instruments out is a testimony to our supirior intellect. Also, we have three parts that we have to put together, whereas most brass players only have the mouth piece to stick on.

(I dont really mean to stereo type brass players , it just came out like that.)

Ah. Well people who can play brass usually have a thin upper lip, as I've noticed. While with wind people I think it's the opposite so that no air escapes without a fight. rofl
