: D I love my flutes. Except my old one is a piece of crap. Nickle plated Armstrong flute. My Yamaha one is broken :'( my key is bent so it doesn't play right.
Our band director tried to make us play a watered down version of Robin Hood but it was pathetically easy so he gave us the college grade one. We breezed through it. I think it's better to play a challenging piece than to do an easy one. Even if it is hard you learn from the complicated time signitures and rythmns for later on songs.

Aw, I'm sorry to hear that! Well for the Yamaha flute you should take it to a repair shop. I'm sure they'll be able to fix it. Oh cool! I've never played Robin Hood before. I have to disagree with that part. If you start out easy, you'll be able to ease into hard pieces easier. If you start out difficult and have no idea what the **** you're doing, then you'll be totally lost if you have to play it at a concert, and won't get you any farther in life as far as piece-playability goes.

-randomly pops in- I play the flute and love band. It's odd though, I don't like the flute sound or music. Very odd seeing as of how I love to play, it's that wrong of me? I feel bad, I just don't fit in as a flute I guess...

'Cause when I was in fifth grade I played the clarinet, but decided flute would be better for me. So in sixth grade, I switched. And I've stuck to it ever since! So my point is that you should be able to switch anytime! It's sad that you don't like the flute, but ask your band director or maybe even someone at a music store to try out some different instruments.

I really miss the open holes and my gizmo key.
We started out in the middle. It wasn't easy but it wasn't hard either. Our band director believes that our band has a lot of talent and potential so we often sight read difficult pieces and he goes over everything we missed in the end. Haha we actually have to take a written test about the composers and music theory every six weeks. =)

Since I was only a Sophomore. I've got my fingers crossed for woodwind captain this year too...we don't find out until sometime during summer band which isn't until august! D:

ravenkitty776 GoddessMelinoe ravenkitty776 GoddessMelinoe Haley_Hime I was wondering if there were any boy flutists! There's absolutely none in our band! xd Thts 'cause they all seem gay and there is extreme predjudice against them. with good reason of course. Actually though, James Galway is one of the best flutist in the world and hes a guy. I know!! My flute teacher is a graduate from high school and he is NOT gay! And yeah, although when my mom mentioned him (he's playing at Ravinia Festival), I didn't know who he was! gonk But now I do! Yay! i know that theres a lot of good guy flutist out there, but i still unitentionally look at them funny. the flute is pretty much the only instrument that is ment for one gender. well not ment for it exactly, but its still kind of a girl instrument. Although that does make sense, the whole gender thing is sterotypical. We people think that flutes would be better for females because of how it's higher pitched and "sweeter", and big brass instruments for boys because of size and loud sound. I personally think it depends on the player at hand, and their comfort and playability. Well, us girls have made SOME progress in the band world. Still, we're not forced to play flute, and guys are are not forced not to. When you look at any other instrument, u can imagine a guy or a girl playing it. But not so much with a flute. And the only brass instrument i can think of thats more guy inclined is the tuba, simply because we're smart enough to know it would be a pain in the neck to carry around.

Our old band director ditched us to go on a world tour with his rock techno band. :/ He was a flutist though. Said he picked it so he could score chicks. Said it worked too. Haha he was the best one in the section and was a state musician so I'm sure all the girls were jealous that a man beat them out on what is obviusly a femmine instrument.

I think the proper term for a flute player is floutist. That's what one of my directors told me at my middle school. :/
Man, I wish my band director ditched us for something. D:
Does anyone have themes for their band? We do, ours is.... SHOES I think my BD was high. O_.
