Tabby507 I'm a flute!!!!!!!!!!!! I love my flute but hate my band. Should I quit or not? Why would you quit just because you hate your band? If you love playing, then don't quit. You might not get to play it for a long time. I don't think quitting because you hate your band is a good enough reason. I wanted to quit many times, but I stuck with it because I loved what I did. If you love something, don't drop it because you don't like something. Believe me, I miss band a lot.

*sigh* Yes, we know. (No offense to all who say things exactly or similarly to this, but can we please do like q and a, 'cause the whole "I love flute!" doesn't get us anywhere. Just a thought.)

By the way, I wanna know if anyone's ever had to play stuff like Star Wars that's barely arranged or not arranged at all. 'Cause I basically DIED playing an arranged college-level Star Wars song for my Summer Band concert. And I'm in high school. burning_eyes

Oh yeah they can get pretty frustrating. One good thing to have is an intermediate/professional flute. Student flutes for some reason just can't and won't play the high notes. You also should make your aperture small. As for fingerings, hmmmm... which notes do you need assistance with?

Oh there's one in band when I was in middle school, but he moved in 6th grade. Then in 8th grade a different dude flutist moved into town and then once again there was a male flute player. Now that I'm going to be a freshman in high school, there's definitely a good chance there'll be at least 1 boy. ninja
(But no ninja boy flutists, unfortunately...)

Haley_Hime I was wondering if there were any boy flutists! There's absolutely none in our band! xd Thts 'cause they all seem gay and there is extreme predjudice against them. with good reason of course. Actually though, James Galway is one of the best flutist in the world and hes a guy.

And yeah, although when my mom mentioned him (he's playing at Ravinia Festival), I didn't know who he was! gonk But now I do! Yay!

I would MUCH MUCH rather play something crazy hard than the nasty middle-school type arrangements. Straight quarter notes are NOT Star Wars. neutral

Although that does make sense, the whole gender thing is sterotypical. We people think that flutes would be better for females because of how it's higher pitched and "sweeter", and big brass instruments for boys because of size and loud sound. I personally think it depends on the player at hand, and their comfort and playability.

I like pieces that are: fun to play, more challenging than middle school level, easier than college level, and are easy to sightread. (although I'm a good sightreader anyways)
