"Interesting....What is your magic?" Kuno asked, hoping that neither Shiyaa nor Kaya knew he was a mage. The fewer that new, the safer they were. The ringing from his back pack continued, steadily growing louder, though Kuno still seemed not to hear it.

Kaya started to feel anxious and a sweat started to bead up on his forehead as he spoke. "Mostly Aeromancy...but I can do a little Hydromancy and Cryomacy too. Why couldn't I have been like Kember?" he muttered the last part, refering to his bibliomancer half brother. Kember was the perfect example of a well trained mage. He could perform the most complicated spells from memory and he hadn't had but one partner so far. He hated it that Kember was twelve years older than him....meaning he was only twenty-nine now."Damn that Bibliomancer b*****d!" he muttered again, but loudly enough this time for people to hear him, he could barely hear himself though due to the ringing in his ears. He didn't realize it was coming from Kuno's backpack.

"Who?" Kuno asked softly, "Who's a bibliomancer?" he added, his eyes nowe locked on Kaya's face Another Bibliomancer? I thought I was the only one...I wonder if Arcaniss knew....

"It doesn't matter. I'm just jealous of the control over their magick they were born with. Me....I've got nothing but trouble." he spun the rod in between his fingers, but only managed to make a hovering disk of ice, melting as it spun."See?" he slapped the disk with his free hand, shattering the fruit of his pathetic spell."I need help. And a lot of it."

Mie-tanuki "I... i - it's not..." he mumbled, his voice sounding slightly hurt. He turned away to hide his expression, which was both saddened and a little... anxcious. He wasn't really totally sure about himself when it came to Gervain. "Ger... Ger is all I have... My... my family was murdered... Ger saved me. He's all I have left...." he said, shoulders slumping in a dejected sort of way. It was quite obvious he had thought over this subject very often - he seem resigned to the way things were. "And he's... he's not as bad as he seems," he added after a moment. But Shadi wasn't entirely sure of that. In fact, Gervain could be MUCH worse than what Brice probably thought of him. But he was also... there were times when... times when he was kind and... and he didn't hurt Shadi so much. "Oh, sorry 'bout that kid." Brice said, meaning it more than one way. Sorry that Shadi had lost his family in such a horrible way, and that he'd have to be rescued by a guy like Gervain.
"Well I don't know about that..." he said, concerning what Shadi said about Gervain not being as bad as he seems. He'd believe that when he saw it.

"Interesting...I may be able to help...." Kuno said softly, pulling a small silver band carved with runes out of his pocket. "This increases the effectiveness of magics...put it on and try the spell again..." he said, holding out the small carved ring.

Shadi sighed. No one else ever seemed capable of seeing anything in Gervain besides his initial... evil impression. It seemed a little... unfair. Of course, it had taken Shadi a very long time to see past that crueless.... "There is some chilled tea in the fridge, if you'd like.... I... I know hot tea won;t be too appealing for you," he murmured.
He picked out several mugs from a cupboard, balancing them carefully in one hand while the other picked up the tea pot. He had quite a bit of practice with this, although they did not often have visitors, because he usually had to balance about ten books or so that he would bring over to the couch and devour. Teapots and mugs were a bit more difficult. He walked as quickly as he could into the living room without spilling anything and set everything down on a small coffee table. He poured some tea into one of the mugs and then handed it to Leif. He poured another and handed it to his partner before pouring out his own and sitting down again.

"Thank you." Leif said, with a little less purr in his voice. He was silently practicing. Though it was quite difficult, balancing speaking and pressing it down all while trying not to fall asleep. The aroma of the tea didn't make that any easier. He sipped it gratefully, his eyelids lowering at the warmth. The heat didn't bother him, heat had never really affected him. Though now he could see there was a reason for it.

The pale boy nodded, murmuring a soft "you're welcome" as he settled back down confortably against Gervain. He blew on his tea and then sipped it blowing occasionaly. It was quite hot. "So... umm... how did... how did you and Ger meet...?" he asked curiously, although he wasn't quite sure he wanted to know. He could already just about guess what it was by the atmosphere. Ger had tried to kill him, failed, and decided to bring him back home. Ger was one of those weird people that could only trust people after arguing or battling with them -- except for Shadi.

"Well... I bumped into him, made an earthquake happen, then we almost killed each other, and now I've followed him home for tea and chit chat." Leif's voice dripped with sarcasm, though his quickly recounted tale was completely true. The tea was making him feel much better, but not any more awake. At least he wasn't paranoid and freaking out anymore.

"Sounds... eventful," he mumbled, giving the other a quick glance. In that short look, he was able to successfully judge the other's state - very tired. He looked back up again at the other and frowned slightly. "You... you should sleep. It's not good to deprive yourself of what you need...." Of course, he didn't realise that sleeping would most likely bring out the Geomancer's alter ego.

"I should. But what happens when I sleep? Will the me that's not me come out to play, or will it let my body rest?" The purring edge was coming back into his voice. His body was falling asleep without him, leaving only the concious and the subconcious to fight in a battle of wills. But the concious receeded with the body. Leif was coiled up with his fingers tangled in the handle of the empty coffee mug, and there was a slight scent of trees about. Of course it wasn't as bas as before, the other was trying to let Leif's body rest as much as it needed to without disturbing it. Even those pale eyes were closed, closed so you couldn't see the emerald tones shining.

"I'll... umm... I can watch over you, if you'd like..." Shadi knew the other would't feel at all at ease with just Gervain watching over him. Shadi felt rather like a mother. Making tea, getting drinks, doing cleaning and chores... watching over sleeping mages. Even though he was the youngest and smallest, he had to take care of pretty much everything. "And... if you'd like... I'm sure Ger wouldn't mind if you stayed here," he added, guessing correctly that the other's home had been wrecked. Ger nodded, grudgingly. The home was something Shadi had control over. The pale boy smiled and murmured a soft "thank you" before leaning over and giving the other a quick kiss on the cheek.

"Thank you..." Leif's voice and the voice of the earth sounded off together, low tones like gravel crunching melding with the softer, huskier sound of the man's. He didn't know why he trusted the kid, his tea could've been drugged, but something about the mix of magic and tea put him right out. However, the smell of tree's still lingered in the air, signifying that the other was still close enough to the surface to listen and learn and protect. It wasn't all bad, after all.

Shadi sighed and sat back, glancing up at Gervain. "You. What happened to the whole 'I-don't-like-strangers' policy?" Shadi asked somewhat pevishly - the exact tone a nagging mother, or wife, would take on. The older man sighed. "So I picked up a stray. Same thing with your books." The younger of the two frowned slightly - after all, the two scenarios were nothing at all alike!! - but didn't comment. "Just... be nice for once. And don't do anything stupid," Shadi muttured, pouting slightly. Ger laughed. "If that's what you want."
