d100+5(advanced ingot) 5/10 Iron Ingot 29/35 Iron Ore 34/40 Coal
With the way the metal had flowed from the cup, Rota could tell that this ingot was going to be something to behold. While he waited for it to set, he created his own signature from cast off iron that spilled or went otherwise unused. It was a demonic looking claw holding a ball of fire. This mark would grace every creation of Rota's, great and small, to help those who doubted the carriers of the weapons he made find out just how wrong they were. This was one more way for him to cement his legacy. Once the ingot had set, he quenched it in the barrel like all the ingots before it. He placed it with the others and would not inspect it until his task was complete. He set another ore in the cup and another few pieces of coal in the fire. He managed the bellows expertly, thinking ahead to days where other travelers would brag about being able to buy and use the weapons made by Rota 'The Blaze' Abyssian. That had a certain ring to it. He wouldn't call himself that until that title had been earned, however. It had a bit of a double meaning to it though. not only was fire a main portion of his life, but he felt like he blazed his own path in life instead of following the roads that others took to get where they are. As he removed the cup from the forge once more and poured it into the mold, he was determined to make that title a reality. He just didn't know how.

d100+5(advanced ingot) 6/10 Iron Ingot 28/35 Iron Ore 33/40 Coal
Rota had a bad feeling about this one. He felt like he had ruined the ingot by letting the ore smelt for too long while he was off in dreamland. He quenched the ingot that he felt was destined for ruin and set it beside its 5 predecessors. Four more to make, by his calculations. Rota popped another ore in the smelting cup and another coal in the hearth. He let this one heat very evenly, using the bellows very seldomly as the ore melted. He wondered to himself if he would ever get to the level of mastery his father had. He knew he had the POTENTIAL, but the question was more about survival than anything. Creatures wanted him dead at any time, and it only took one monster wanting it more than any other to ruin all that he had worked for. He could not let that happen. Rota was determined to show that no monster could take his legacy away from him. Absolutely none. When the time was right, Rota once more pulled the cup from the fire and poured the contents into the mold. He needed to get at least this part done before Alyx showed up.

Rota didn't know why he had no faith in his abilities now. He guessed that it was because he was rushing a bit, but it shouldn't make this much of an impact on his psyche. Regardless he quenched the latest ingot, and once it cooled sufficiently he placed it with its six brothers. Three to go. Rota loaded the cup and the hearth with ore and coal respectively and set about the fire with the bellows. He was very excited to begin actual forging rather than forging prep, but that depended heavily on those ores he felt uneasy about. He had the sneaking suspicion in the pit of his gut that he would have to fix a great many ores before he could truly get underway. If he did, then at least it was breeding more familiarity with making the ingots. Hopefully that would mean higher quality more reliably, but he had his doubts about that as well. Whatever the case, he waited for the ore to get at peak melting point, and then removed it and poured the molten iron into the mold. He was almost done, he just needed some more decent ores.

Rota was lukewarm on this ingot. He thought he did well enough, but he didn't quite know for sure yet. He continued to mull it over as he doused it in the barrel and set it with the other Seven after it had cooled well enough. Two left. as he placed an ore in the smelting cup and some coal in the hearth, he couldn't help think of how he had poorly mismanaged his time here. He hadn't improved his swordsmanship nearly enough, and instead spread his focus far too wide. There was no helping it now though. He had made his commitment to all things equipment and that was how it was going to stay. Rota kept the heat on the cup using the bellows, wanting to bake out all possible impurities in the ore. He had forged too many sub-par ores in the past to continue that tradition, although he had the feeling even more awaited him in the future. There was just no telling at this point until he could get more hands-on with his ingots, and the smelting process took precedent over the inspecting. Rota wished he could inspect them one at a time so he could fix what needed fixing right away and obliterate the hell of waiting, but part of him thought that would be a bad idea. There was the chance he could get stuck trying in vain to fix an ore that was irredeemable, and he didn't have that amount of time to spend. if worse came to worse, these were practice weapons anyways and any made with an inferior ingot would be scrapped as soon as possible. he removed the smelting cup from the forge once again and poured the contents into the cast. He breathed deeply, trying to keep calm as he was getting close to finished.

d100+5(advanced ingot) 9/10 Iron Ingot 25/35 Iron Ore 30/40 Coal
Rota had no time to consider the quality of the ingot he just made, as it set rapidly. he quenched it in the barrel as soon as possible, and set the cooling ingot next to the others. The last one was now. With great care, Rota looked amongst his ores, and picked one out that seemed to hold the most promise. he placed it in the smelting cup, and tossed a handful of coal in the hearth. This would be the last ingot he would smelt this session that was made using ore. Any Ingots from here on out would be made through reforging. He had to make this last one count. He squeezed the bellows with great care to turn the heat up as high as it could safely go without damaging the quality of the iron. Each ingot was a secret, and Rota would learn every one out there. he knew what he was going to make. To get familiar with making weapons he had to make one of each variant of one handed and two handed weapons: 1 One Handed Straight Sword, 1 One Handed Curved Sword, 1 One Handed Axe, 1 Two Handed Straight Sword, 1 Two Handed Curved Sword, and 1 Two Handed Axe. he was also going to further practice making shields. this would be important for his growth as an Artisan. he needed to get familiar with weapons he didn't himself use in order to better cater to those that used them. Rota was sure he was missing some, but those were the main ones he wanted to start with. He waited for the ore to fully melt down before pulling it from the hearth an pouring out the contents for the last time until he could inspect the ingots further. He just hoped the good outweighed the bad.

Rota watched the ingot set, not knowing what to think or do. He couldn't dare start on anything else until he could inspect the ingots to see what he was even dealing with. The hell of waiting was real, and it sucked a**. He took the ingot and quenched it like all the rest, and then sat it by the nine that came before it. Ten ingots done, and he had no idea the ratio of good to bad that they possessed. He just had to wait and see what resulted of his hard labor of love. He had felt good about a couple of ingots there, so something was going to turn out fantastic, hopefully. However that sinking pit in his stomach came back in full force. there were a lot of ingots that he felt abysmal about making, and that couldn't be a good sign in any way, shape, or form. Regardless, time would tell him how ashamed he was to be of himself.

Armorsmith Arte: Rookie Shield using 1 iron ingots and 1 units of charcoal, you can produce a shield 0/1 Shield 0/1 One Handed Straight Sword 1/2 Gloomiron Ingots 29/40 Coal
Rota had been patient in the past, but he was done with those days now. He went over to the workbench and grabbed one of the two standard quality ingots. this would be his practice at making a serviceable shield for Alyx. He began by placing some coal in the hearth and set the ingot inside for it to heat up. while he waited, he drew the basic outline for the shield on some paper. it would be an Edged Heater style shield rather than a basic buckler. There would be no special designs or filigree on the front, but only because he not only had no access to fancy materials like that but also because this was just a practice. He didn't need to go all out just yet, merely get a better understanding of how making a shield could either go very right or very wrong. He pulled the ingot out of the fire, grabbed a few hammers off of the walls, and began to beat it into shape. It took longer than expected to retain a consistent thickness the whole way through, but he felt that it was serviceable for now. Once he cooled the Iron into shape, he found some wood to reinforce it from the inside and built it into place, putting strong adhesive in between and sealing the wood so it would not warp due to over hydration. he then further sealed that up with a soft leather inlay to protect not only the wood, but also the arms of those to use it. Rota then sealed the whole thing shut with banding around the edges, and riveted it for added strength. he heated up his signature, which was the size of a medallion, and then pressed it up against the leather on the inside. the mark of the demon would be in between where the arm rested in the enarmes he had yet to fasten in. He took some strips of sturdy leather and riveted the enarmes into place so that the shield could be strapped to one's forearm, with the outside of the forearm pressing against the signature. It was likely not the best shield out there, but it was his first go at a shield for the first time completely on his own.

Weaponsmith Arte: Rookie Iron One-Handed Weapon 1 unit iron ingot and 2 units charcoal produce one one-handed iron weapon 1/1 Shield 0/1 One Handed Straight Sword 0/2 Gloomiron Ingots 28/40 Coal
Now that the shield had been done, now was the main attraction that Rota had been waiting for. making a sword. He had seen his father make a great many weapons over the years of his father failing to get Rota interested in actually making weapons instead of using them, but none captured his attention more than swords. The bigger the better in his humble opinion. Though He wasn't an idiot bout it. Swords that required two hands to use were often cumbersome if not accustomed to them, and so most preferred one handed swords. Alyx was one such warrior, so Rota had to learn to tone down his eager tendencies. He started by setting another set of coals in the fire and another ingot to heat. He worked the bellows occasionally, just to get it to heat faster, and then pulled it out with tongs to the anvil. He grabbed the hammer, and immediately set upon the ingot, hammering it near flat within minutes, and then folding the metal in on itself. he then heated the ingot again and repeated the process. he wanted to fold the metal so that the edge would maintain as long as possible on the blade and so that it would not break very easily. he folded it in on itself 10 times before he elongated the ingot and quenched it. After tempering the blade again, he brought the squared front of the metal bar into a point, and sharpened it with great care. he took some cast off iron and made a cross guard and bands for the leather scabbard. he wrapped the hilt in leather and put his mark on both sides of the hilt, always meant to be covered up by the space where the fingers gripped together, and the inside of the hand itself. The sword initially was nothing fancy, but Rota would go under further evaluation after a short rest.

Alyx moved through the encampment and found Rota working at the forge. He was wearing his tank armor, and shining in the light like the white knight that the Gloomking tried to be. His spider silk cloak billowed behind him as he came forward and hailed Rota. "Well hello there. Fancy meeting you here. Reallly. How have you been since our last adventures together?" Alyx hadn't given smithing any though once he'd gotten his skinning knife, and didn't intend to. He was more likely to swing a wood axe than he was a forging hammer, and he was content with that. How else were they going to have a guild hall to keep all of their stories and trophies, if he himself did not supply a base from which they can stage their operations? Still. There was respect in him for those that could forge. Without someone making the armaments that Alyx carried into battle, Alyx could not go into battle. And that would just be a really bad time for everybody.

Weaponsmith Arte: Rookie Iron Two-Handed Weapon 2 unit iron ingot and 3 units charcoal produce one two-handed iron weapon -1 Soft Gloomiron Ingot -1 Brittle GloomIron Ingot 25/40 Coal
Rota felt that enough time had passed that he could inspect his ingots, and oh the sights he saw. His fears were blown out of the water when he saw that most of the ones he felt nervous about were merely average. that was a good sign. One of the ingots had been of the soft putty variety, and another was of a new quality to his hands. He tried to bend it in his hands and micro fractures began to spiderweb their way through it. It was disappointing to say the least. he then inspected the ones he felt decent about. Two were the durable ones he had been acquainted with before, and one was the pinnacle of what he knew ingots could be, the Flawless ingot. But then caught his eye the one that had casted fast in the mold, the one that felt special form the word 'go', and it shone like a brilliant star. It was even BETTER than the previous one! How was this sort of thing possible? This HAD to be the best any ingot could come out like. There COULDN'T be anything higher than this. Rota had to get better as a smith to make using that Ingot worth it. But first he had to play cleanup.
He grabbed the Soft and the Brittle ingots and placed them in the forge hearth as Alyx walked in on him. His heart almost skipped a beat to see him in person again. He finished tossing plenty of coal in the forge and let it begin to heat. "I have been well. Sorry I ditched you all the way out there. I had to work some mental things out." He worked the bellows, keeping an even heat on the ingots so that they would be malleable enough to work into a Two Handed Straight Sword. "My mind went to a really dark place out there. I felt like I wasn't qualified enough to stand on my own out there as a Warrior."
Rota used the tongs to pull the ingots from the hearth and place them on the Anvil. he grabbed the hammer and beat each ingot and folded them in on themselves, then let them heat again. He could see a respect for his craft in Alyx's eyes, and that went a long way to validating what he had decided to do as a job here. "Hell, if it wasn't for my mine, I probably would have felt very useless. But it did give me a lot of time to think, and find my roles in life." Rota pulled the ingots out for the final time and began to beat them together into shape, letting their mutual disappointment bond together to make a slab of complete Mediocrity. He then quenched the formed blade, sharpened it, and did NOT give it a seal. Such terrible quality was not what he would be advertising."But I found my life as a Warrior after going untouched against a bear, so I am both a Blacksmith and a swordsman."
Rota propped the fail blade against the wall near the work bench with all of his other practice efforts and looked at Alyx. "So I've got a few questions for you.

Alyx watched as Rota worked. He agreed that Rota had needed work, and part of him was glad that the man hadn't just sat around in their time apart. Rota had needed to grow and develop as a warrior, and he was not getting the practice that he needed while Alyx was working with him. Alyx supposed that he wasn't making much sense, really. He was thinking too much like a solo player. Rota didn't need to be capable of playing by himself; so long as they had the strength of the group, they would be fine. But if Rota was able to solo bears now, then they might be ready to proceed and take care of the real problems the Gloomwood had to offer. Achan was high on Alyx' list of priorities.
"I'm glad you've had the time to get a handle on things. Oh? Ask away."

Weaponsmith Arte: Rookie Iron Two-Handed Weapon 2 units iron ingot and 3 units charcoal produce one Two-handed iron weapon -1 Flawless Gloomiron Ingot -1 Exceptional Gloomiron Ingot 22/40 Coal
Rota nodded in response to the comment of getting a handle on things, as he added another two ingots to the hearth and another set of coals to the flame. As if guided by The Figure itself, he grabbed the Exceptional ingot and a Flawless Ingot. He didn't feel he was ready, but he was hit with a bolt of inspiration and boundless curiosity that refused entirely to go away. For better or worse, he began to work on these near peerless ingots into his own weapon style."Well, I had to get a handle of my own abilities. You focusing on attacking on that Rage Boar showed me just how much I was relying on your skill." He worked the bellows more, heating the Ingots more to make them more workable. They shone like twin stars in the forge, which was not normal. something was very different with how this was going. Was this the Exceptional ingot at work? He pushed it to the back of his mind and did not let his face show is inner shock and excitement. his shock."If we meet something that You can't handle, or breaks through your defense, If I had stayed at that level of co-dependency we'd be screwed. I love teaming up with you, wouldn't trade it for the world, but it opened my eyes to how much I need to be able to stand on my own; Because you won't always be there to bail me out."
Rota pulled the glowing bars out of the fire and beat them on the anvil. Rota was moving independently of his mind and will, his muscle memory doing all the work for him. What the hell is going on? Visions of his father working at the forge flowed through him as he beat the twin suns together, fusing them into something much greater than themselves. A masterpiece... The inner artisan came out of him as he thrust all of his attention on to this piece of art in the making, shaping the blade as he struck."That isn't a lack of faith, that is just being realistic. I know that when you are with me we can do amazing things, but when we are separate I need to be able to not die and I was not convinced until I killed that Bear and tamed another without getting hurt either time that I could." He had beaten serrations into both sides of the blade, which was still glowing white hot and refused to cool down. The heat was not getting to him at all, his demon blood was too strong for that. "BUT I'm dwelling. My first question is kind of a weird one. I don't now if anyone else had seen it, but I figured I'd ask. What do you know of The Figure in Light?"
10 times folded meant this blade would be strong. A forged edge meant it never had to be sharpened. Rota took some Magnetite powder he found in the forge and coated the blade in it. It still was white hot. he tried to douse it but that method was no longer working. He did the only thing his heart told him to do with a work of such quality. He drank a rookie healing potion, removed the leather apron, his vest, and his shirt and shoved the white hot blade into his right pectoral. the blood hissed and popped inside him as the blood instantly cauterized and further movement opened the wound. He pulled out the blade, as his chest wound sealed up into a scar and healed due to the potion. His vision was blurred and popped for a good while before he saw the image before him. A Black, savagely serrated blade with bands of blood red almost like Damascus. The edges were pure blood red. The grande was a blood red crosspiece with spikes on the ends of them. it had a space for a gemstone, so he used that space to put his seal on both sides. The hilt was wrapped in black leather. he held it out in front of him, and whispered. "Abyssian."

Alyx was distracted as Rota forged. Something was... Different about this particular sword, and Alyx watched as Rota hammered it out, listening to him explain his reasoning for solo play. Alyx understood what Rota was saying; he wanted to be capable of surviving in this world the way Alyx did; alone. So many in this world relied on the power of their groups and they became strong units, if not strong individual pieces of the puzzle. Alyx and Rota were striving to become something different; capable of standing on their own feet, and even more powerful when it came to forming a group. Alyx was the more combat-oriented of the two, but Rota, if what he said was true, was coming along just fine.
Alyx looked at the THSS when Rota had finished it. "A fine blade."
He thought back to when he'd first become aware of his new circumstances. Yes, he remembered the Light. "I remember about as much as anyone else. Everyone seems to vaguely remember a white light, and then we wound up here. Why do you ask?"

Rota pulled up a stool and rested. The forging of Abyssian took all energy out of the young Half-Demon Artisan. The tip of his blade was in the ground as he wheezed with his forehead against the center of the crossguard. "I ask because I thought that as seemingly long as you've been around here, you would've had some more information on it than I did. I saw a Figure inside of it and it spoke to me, and then sent me here." He looked up at Alyx. "My father told me that coming to this tower was the way to learn more about what me being a Half-Demon truly meant, that my answers are here. If that's true, then that thing has them." He gathered his strength enough that he could sit upright. "Second question. In the past, I have seen you eyeing my previous blade. Is there a history with Broadswords and you?"

"I've been around for a while, yes, but I haven't discovered anything more about why we're here or where here is. But, now that you mention it, yes, there is a bit of history between myself and the greatsword. A long time ago I used to focus on them exclusively. I've... Since grown more accustomed to having a defensive option, and I'm more interested in survivability than anything else. Even if it means sacrificing some of the ferocity of my attacks, having the ability to defend myself and my team is more fulfilling to me than having all of the power on the battlefield."
