gonk

I keep feeling like I'm doing something wrong with all these rule reminders popping up.
PostPosted: Tue Jul 30, 2013 9:05 am

Hmm, I'm sort of thinking I may have slipped up. I do have a hot character, BUT it doesn't really leak into everything....so far....

How is having a hot character bad? It doesn't mean people can't resist them... sweatdrop A bit of charm isn't too bad... And he doesn't flirt alot.

~~~
I don't have the patience to use something count my words (as silly as that sounds since it probably won't take that long)...I just make my posts long to solve the problem. ^^; Heh...
So in other words I don't have a clue how long my posts are....but they seem to be longer than my partners most of the time so that's a good indicator I'm following the rules.
Having a physically attractive character isn't the issue the new guidelines are addressing. Having a character that is irresistible, flawless, perfect in appearance - that would be the problem.
A charming character whose appearance is 'hot' or attractive or otherwise appealing? That's no problem, plenty of people are. A character that 'no one can resist' or along those lines - that's a problem, since it's a form of imposing your opinion on other characters, which is straddling the line of god-modding.
Also, we want to see variety! Imagine if every character in here was absolutely, drop-dead gorgeous and irresistible. It'd be boring.
As for the word count, Waffles and Tapole are taking that very seriously because there are several people who are consistently posting either below the 400 word count minimum or barely there. It's sort of a "If you think this applies to you, then it probably does" sort of thing.
All I do it write up my posts, go to wordcounter.net in another tab, and then just preview my post. Then I copy/paste into the word counter and it pops up right there for you. It takes all of four seconds and ensures you're following the rules, so I'd really suggest everyone start doing that.
It's discouraging to have rules that are clearly laid out and then have people who claim to have read them, and either haven't, or don't have any consideration for the rules, the people who wrote them, or the standards the guild is trying to have. Hence the new guidelines.
yes. lol.
he would be the fugliest thing ever. scream
tho most of the time, I make chars for other people's. I made Jo and got no hits, and Kitteh said I should make an oc for her. Which I did. Then I made Az cause one, I spent an hour editing that art, and two, I really liked Julian's oc. I thought a carni would be great but a dark carni would be even better! blaugh
Oh okay, I got it. Hee hee, I guess it didn't seem clear enough to me. I thought I wasn't breaking any rules but I still wanted to be sure. c:
Hmm, I'd think everyone was writing the minimum if not more but I guess not. Though I've heard people say in the past that they have trouble coming up with more--like they just struggle with it. I guess it's the same issue here. I like that little rules because it means my partners have to give me something to work with. x3
That's a lovely little rule.
I don't even know if I used flawless. Man now I'm gonna go back and check.
Though when someone uses flawless to describe a face, I think of it without faults or blemishes. Not that it is absolutely perfect. sweatdrop
I think picking an asset or two and making them stand out is good. It always a character, especially 1x1, to focus on something if the characters become romantic or if it is a feature that noticeably makes the character different.
HERE
I think we need to add this to a resources list or something.
This is the Mary-Sue Litmus test. It's great for helping you figure out if a character is a Mary-Sue or not. Obviously there are always some exceptions, depending on the roleplay, but overall - it's excellent.
That should solve any issues of what "too hot" means for characters' appearances.
And really, I believe the posting/word count is the larger issue. I agree with you, Sari, that it helps give the replier something to reply TO. That's the entire point of the word count.
I used flawless once! haha ctrl +f is truly amazing.
"Whomp whomp whomp whomp whomp whomp." Who knew what was said, Huey stood there waiting for her to appear and when she did, his hand held out the flowers. He couldn't bring himself to look up, to meet her flawless face. The eyes are windows to the soul and he felt as if his checked out. "Here. I figured you'd like to go to the Garden, that big one with the fountain," clearing his throat he continued, "my car is out front. I can carry your stuff."
Though, it is my character's perception of her face because he finds her to be attractive.
hahaha I got an 18 for Az. I must have rp'd with either some elite godly-character players or because of the rules- you can only be human, I've never come across the Mary Sue thing. gonk
Definitely call me out if I'm doing something wrong.That is the only way for improvement and better character development.
