With a large supply of balloons at his fingertips, Griffin decided it was time to get creative. The two-balloons-in-one throw hadn't worked before, but maybe now that he had a stable spot to try from, it would work. Ideally, it would let him hit two people at once, or at least get someone doubly wet.
Or, the balloons could both fly off in separate directions, neither one hitting anything. It was a better result than the last time, barely, but not so good that he thought he'd try that experiment again any time soon.
Derek squawked as a balloon pelted him from out of nowhere. Darn it! He should be paying more attention!! He had let all his recent hits go to his brain! So scooping up the nearest balloon he threw it at Ralph, only to miss.
"Wait, no! Stop! These are mine!" The problem with camping a nearly-full bin of balloons meant that Griffin had to defend it from other kids. He batted hands away, trying not to kick since that would get him in trouble. "C'mon, find your own!" he groaned, trying to shoo one particularly insistent girl away.
It was a lot of trouble for a bunch of balloons, but Griffin hoped it would be worth it in the end.

Ack, Ralph had been hit at least twice, maybe a few more times in just a short time. Including some soapy suds! He frowned a little bit before looking for a target. He'd tried to take time to make sure the suds weren't on his hand. However, he still managed to miss.

In desperation, Griffin took a couple of balloons and lobbed them at the kids who were trying to get their mitts on his ammo. Even at such a close range, all of his shots missed. They did serve their intended purpose in a way, though: the kids were too busy laughing to dig into his reserves. Griffin used that window to push his bin just far enough out of the action so that it wouldn't be such an attractive target. Of course, that meant fewer kids for him to hit, but that was the price one had to pay to be left alone, he supposed.
Finally, he had his own base. It wasn't particularly secret, but that wasn't the point. It was just a man and his balloons, the way it was meant to be- at least, in the movie that took place in Griffin's mind, which featured him as the hero of an epic clash between opposing forces.
More than ready to take revenge on those who'd tried stealing his balloons, he aimed one at the throng that was busy raiding another bin. The crowd there was so thick that it would be hard for him not to hit anyone. That didn't make the inevitable shriek of surprise any less satisfying.
Ralph saw some girl off to the side crying. His brow lofted as he looked at her before pondering if he should hit her with a water balloon or go after someone else. He slid up to her casually and tilted his head, he wasn't going to be that cruel was he?
Suddenly he heard someone call her a name and turned eyes narrowed noticing another boy. "Huh he must think that's funny." He muttered where she could hear him before picking up a balloon. Ralph actually hoped he hit the boy in the mouth with the balloon. Of course Luck was not on the side of those trying to be chivalrous Ralph frowned heavily.

Since he was on a roll hitting people as they came in for more balloons, Griffin decided to keep doing what worked. The other tubs nearby served as bait, and when another kid got too close to his, he let a particularly fat balloon fly. "This one's mine!" he yelled, waving another balloon threateningly. "Stay away!"
To his surprise, the other boy did. Griffin nodded, then started to look for Briar. It was time he got his rival again... if only his rival would come close enough to be hit.
The girl had perked up and run off happy that someone had tried to defend her no matter how lousy they were at it. However, the boy that Ralph had tried to target was not so impressed with Ralph and threw balloons at him. Daring Ralph to try and hit him again. Ralph actually did manage to nail the guy in the head, he stuck his tongue out. "Now what?" He asked, trying to look all macho.

The temptation to engage his rival was great. At the same time, he had a base to defend. Griffin knew that if he dared to get up, he'd have to fight for his spot again, and considering what it took to get this bin all to himself, he wasn't willing to do that. There was no way for him to take the battle to Briar- at least, not at the moment.
Still, Griffin really wanted to. When he spotted Briar at the other end of the yard, he tossed a balloon in that direction. It only made it about halfway to the target before bursting on the ground. Disappointing, but not surprising. Still, it had been worth a shot!

Marisha sighed as she pulled herself up of the ground. She knew that while muddy and wet now she was not going to give up the fight and with these thought in mind went looking for another balloon. Grabbing one she threw it halfheartedly at a random kid. She had truly not expected it to him but was pleasantly surprised when it did.

The slick ground made it hard to run at times, and Briar had found himself tripping over a couple of times.
One of the kids had taken the opportunity to nail him with a balloon last time round, so Briar was hoping to get a little revenge.
He had the follow the other boy down towards one end of the field to do it, but eventually Briar was able to finally nail him with a balloon.

Ha, there was Briar! It was impossible for him to stay away, Griffin figured. Like true rivals, they were drawn together, so that they could clash dramatically in the moonlight, with drums beating as their weapons landed-
Okay, so the drums were actually pounding footsteps, and the sun was almost blinding, and their only weapons exploded on impact. That wasn't enough to keep Griffin from wanting things to be epic. And they could be, even without drums or moonlight.
Still, when Griffin threw his next balloon at Briar, he wasn't expecting it to be filled with soapy water. At least that kept the residue off of him, but it sure took him by surprise!

Briar had been standing there feeling a little smug at finally managing to get his revenge, when a balloon whapped him in the back of his top, drenching the material in soapy water.
After scooping up a nearby un-burst balloon Briar spun round (and nearly fell over). He noticed Griffin first and then noticed his rival’s little set-up.
Trotting over he whistled, thoughts of revenge temporarily put aside “Neat set-up” he told Griffin.
As a kid ran in their direction, he absently tossed his balloon in their direction, the balloon managing to nail them on their dress.
That didn’t mean he wasn’t going to get Griffin back for this mind, he was just waiting for the perfect opportunity to come along.

"Thanks!" Not that Griffin had any doubt that his base was fantastic, even though it wasn't very secret. Still, it was nice to get compliments. And compliments from his fated rival were doubly special. He would have bowed or struck a pose, but that was kind of hard to do when he was sitting on the ground. Instead, he winked and flashed a quick thumbs up.
It would be so easy to nail Briar again, but that would practically be cheating. It certainly wouldn't be the act of a good rival. So instead, Griffin tossed a balloon at the same girl Briar had, splashing her in the legs. It was a nice bit of teamwork, considering that they were technically enemies.
