Zach stared at Desiree. He glanced at Vanilla before sighing and muttering something unintelligable under his breath.
Since Rosemary was close enough to hear it, she giggled. As expected it was about Desiree. He pulled out a small sphere; it looked like a small metal marble. Hesitantly, he dropped it in Vanilla's outstretched hand.
Desiree had a smug look on her face. She stuck her tounge out at Zach and got the same thing in return.

~~ "Thank you." Vanilla closed her fingers around the object, and held it up to the light, examining. Just then, the doorbell ran. Vanilla looked towards the living room entrance. "Hm...I wonder who that could be?" she murmured thoughtfully, slipping the sphere into her dress pocket and walking out. "Please excuse me while I go answer that."
A few moments later, the door was heard opening, followed by a slight gasp from Vanilla. "Oh my!"
"Vanilla, do you have any medical supplies on you?" Shadow's voice.
"Certainly! Go to the den and lay her down on the couch. I'll get the first aid kit."
The mutant appeared, entering the living room. He did as he had been instructed, resting Lillian on the sofa. ~~

(Bear with me on this post. I'm on a handheld device and it isn't very easy to type in the stuff...expect typos or random words appearing.)
Zach grumbled, "Yeah." while Desiree laughed victoriously to herself. Rosemary smiled, happy to see that they were such close siblings. Made her a but envious.
As Vanilla went to open the door, Rosemary watched as Zach pulled out yet another one of the little metal spheres. "Ever think they were bullets?" she suggested, snatching it away from him before Desiree could see it.
When she caught sight of Shadow she jumped up, eyes wide. "Shadow! You're okay!" She stared curiously at the tiger mutant he had layed on the couch. "Who's that? Where's Rouge? What happened?" she asked. The questions were pouring out of her.
Desiree and Zach both looked at the new girl and then Shadow, each of them equally curious.
Lillian had drifted in and out of conciseness for most of the time. But this time the sound of more voices kept her concious. Though she made no attempts to move. She knew that moving wouldn't help her at all and there really wasn't much to say.
Rosemary looked back to where Shadow had entered. "Oh my God..." she said, smirking. "You actually used a doorbell. And I half expected you to just barge in."
(And so returns Rosemary's mouthy comments. XD)

Shadow was silent for a few moments, not replying to any of Rosemary's questions, nor her mouthy comment. He looked up at her. "Rouge and I found her in the lab...she's a tiger mutant named Lillian. We met with the Commander, who answered whatever I asked him. I then demanded to see who he made an agreement with. He obliged, and led us to the training room. There, there was a figure in a cloak, who was creepily familiar. After we exchanged...words, and I denied being his prisoner, another figure appeared, holding Cream and Tails. It wasn't long before I realized the obvious...that these figures were Tails Doll and Metal. Sure enough, they were...Doll trapped Cream and Tails in some odd red sphere, allowing Metal and Lillian to fight. They were evenly matched, somewhat...except for the occasions when Metal equipped his machine gun..." The Ultimate Lifeform closed his eyes, leaning against the wall. "Eventually, Metal just took out a knife and stabbed her. He was about to finish her off when Rouge stepped in...."
Vanilla re-entered the room, going over to the couch and kneeling beside it, opening her first aid kit and taking out medicated bandages. Besides the sound of her tending to Lillian's wounds, all remained quiet.
Finally, Shadow continued in a low voice. "She distracted Metal by insisting he had a crush on her, making him back away, while I moved Lillian out of the battle field. When Rouge consistently tried to flirt with Metal, though, I knew she wanted us to go on ahead...Metal figured this out, so Rouge kissed him, letting me escape with Lillian..." ~~

(I know...it took forever. I typed it out so slowly I think I made Mr. Turtle a racer! :p)
Rosemary's eyes widened. She gasped and clamped a hand over her mouth. "He stabbed her? How is she still alive then?" she mumbled from behind her hand.
The moment Shadow mentioned Tails Doll, Rosemary shivered. For a moment she was remembering the little spiff she had gotten into with him. It made her tug a strand of her hair...hard. She gave a hard look at Lillian before sighing and sitting on the floor, crossing her legs. She rested her head in her hands in thought. "This is crazy. Insane!" she muttered, rubbing her temples.
Zach and Desiree exchanged looks.
So, Rouge was in the hands of someone they didn't want to be involved with.
"It was pretty stupid of her, but also courageous," Desiree said, closing her eyes. Honestly, she would have done the same thing. And she had before, multiple times. Mostly for Zach's sake.
The three of them quieted once more before a hiss of pain escaped Lillian. She lifted her head and gritted her teeth. "That hurts!" she growled, twitching her ears crossly. She let her head fall back with a quiet thump before blinking in surprise. "Where am I?' she asked, ressisting the urge to jump up and run.

"That's Rouge for you..stupid, yet brave.." Shadow looked at Lillian as the mutant woke up. "Relax. You're safe." He assured her.
"There. All set." Vanilla stood, closing up the first aid kit. She'd put a medicated bandage around Lillian's chest and back, as well as the places where she'd been shot. Shadow nodded, silent once more.
The rabbit looked at Shadow sympathetically. "Don't be too hard on yourself. I'm sure Rouge will be fine." She told him softly.
"Metal's probably killed her by now." answered the Ultimate Lifeform quietly, closing his eyes, "And if he hasn't, then that's even worse...I shouldn't have left her there.." ~~

Lillian let herself ease up a bit as Shadow reassured her. She listened for a moment to what the others were speaking of. Rouge's name made her flinch. When Vanilla finished she sat up slowly, grimacing. "I feel responsible for it..." she said quietly, closing her eyes. "I should've died there. You should've grabbed Rouge instead of me."
Rosemary cast the tiger mutant a glance. She sighed and stood back up, going to the window and looking out.
Desiree and Zach both shifted. "Well, we're going to get her back, right? Her and the others?" Zach asked, ruffling his hair nervously. Desiree looked at Zach and then at Shadow. "Will we really just sit here?"
Rosemary remained quiet.
Lillian opened her eyes. A determination set in her mind and she clenched her fists. "I need to make up for this," she murmured. It was the way she was trained. Make sacrifices and make up for the mistakes.
(I'm thinking of making a seperate list of this "code" Lillian lives by. xD For my personal use and stuff.)

~~ (Ikr? XD Beware: Shadow's about to become Mr. Emo for a very short amount of time.)
Shadow didn't reply to any of them, remaining silent, staring at the floor. After a moment, he spoke, voice low. "Lillian, you weren't responsible. Rouge wanted to be left there. It was her choice."
"But Shadow, we can still--" began Vanilla gently.
"No, Vanilla, we can't...I caught a glance of Metal as we flew off. He looked pissed. It would be a miracle if Rouge wasn't dead right now...and with no use for Cream and Tails, why would they be kept alive?"
"Shadow--"
"The point is that we failed."
"That isn't true."
"You're right. I failed." Shadow turned and walked out.
Vanilla raised her hand up in an attempt to grab and stop him, but he'd gone. She closed her eyes, sighing lightly. The rabbit turned to Rosemary, taking something out of her dress's coat pocket and holding out her fist. Unravelling her fingers, in her palm was a gold, heart-shaped locket. "Go give this to him, Rosemary," she said softly, brown orbs filled with sadness, "Please." ~~

(That is never a good sign. xD Rosemary: Upset = no mouthy comments; Shadow: Upset = emotude!; Zach: Upset = throws a tantrum; Desiree: Upset = gets SUPER pissed at EVERYTHING.)
Lillian narrowed her eyes at the floor. She let out an exasperated sigh and planted her head in her hands, leaning foward. Didn't matter what he said. She still felt guilty.
Rosemary found herself flinching at Shadow's words. She blinked and turned towards Vanilla as she offered the locket. She took it gently and looked at it for a moment before giving a quiet nod. "Okay, I will." she replied quietly.
Desiree shook her head slightly and twirled a strand of her hair with her finger. Zach stuffed his hands in his pockets and gave a nonchalant whistle before scooting off away from Desiree and taking Rosemary's place by the window.
Rosemary closed her fingers over the gold necklace before going after Shadow. "Shadow! Wait!" she called after him, reaching for his arm.

Shadow came to a stop. He looked over his shoulder at Rosemary. "What do you want?" he asked.

Rosemary stopped and held out her hand. She opened her fingers and showed him the locket, offering it to him. "Here," she said gently. "Vanilla asked me to give this to you." Her eyes softened and she tilted her head slightly. "I really am sorry about what happened to Rouge," she murmured. "And I'm worried for her too. But don't beat yourself up for it. Rouge knew what she was doing and she wanted to give you a chance."

Shadow hesitated, then turned around and reached out his hand, closing his fingers around the locket. He pulled it over to him, gazing at it. Hearing Rosemary's words, he closed his eyes. "What does any of this matter to you? You barely know us." said the mutant quietly.
There was something...familiar about the golden locket in his palm... ~~

Rosemary gave him a small smile. "Because," she said, "I get attached to people easily. It doesn't matter if I don't know much about you. What matters is that I've been with you long enough to...well, care!" She lowered her hand as he took the locket. She didn't like seeing Shadow like this. "The same goes for Desiree, Zach, Cream, Tails, and everyone else. Even you, Shadow. Even if you act like an a**."
She sighed quietly. "I care about what happens. I've lost a lot of my family. But someone much more important to me then anyone else. But she didn't have a chance." Rosemary choked on her words, drowning in that terrible memory of her mother's death before swallowing the lump in her throat. "But I still believe that Rouge does. And the chances will become very low if you keep this attitiude up."

~~ (Google? NEVEERRR! gonk They spy on chu, you know. v_v and I don't know about deviantart. never been on it. I guess I'll just use this one..)
Shadow didn't reply, although he wanted to. He wasn't sure what to say, really.
Instead, curiosity got the best of him, and he opened both his eyes and the locket at the same time. The normally cold scarlet orbs became wide and soft, seeing it's contents. It was a picture of him, and a blonde haired girl...hugging.
