Emma opened her mouth to reply, but was interrupted by a mental message. She straightened, looking apologetically at the two men. "I'm afraid I must take my leave. Fare you well, gentlemen. The library is at your disposal."

And with that, she vanished in a flicker of violet.

[Wow, it is midnight already! I best be going to bed. Good night, you two.]

Ernst thought about Farkson`s statement for a moment, and nodded. "Ja, I suppose this is true, as well", he said. But then a frown came upon his lips again. "But this Vaswedes is sounding more like a lunatic the more I hear of him . . . Just like. . ." Ernst shuddered. He did not even want to mention the name. He stayed silent.

The German looked over to Emma. He smiled slightly and waved to her. "Auf Wiedersehen, Frau. Thank you for your hospitality. I truly appreciate it."

Ernst sighed and looked down to the complicated watch on his wrist. It seemed that telling time was the least of its functions. He looked out the window at the night sky and frowned. "I suppose I should be leaving, myself. I can`t let them take a hold of my inventions."

Ernst stood up and strapped his gear back on, setting the destination on the interface to 'Home'. He wrote a thank you note to Emma and included how to reach him should she need to. He looked back to Farkson. "Good luck with your quest, young man . . . I`ve the greatest feeling you`ll be needing it." The German tipped his hat. "Auf Wiedersehen."

An inky carpet landed at the foot of the library. Nyrk dismounted it, taking along with him the librarian. He carried Emma inside, leaving the door open for Scribbler. "Forgive my doubt, Scribbler," he said in relation to the carpet.

Nyrk set Emma down in a clearing among the forest of books, then went about the unlit library, setting each lantern about the place ablaze. It was not Emma's magical flame, but it would suffice for light.

As the exorcist, vampire and elf landed, there was the sound of hoofbeats from outside. The Lord of Bainbridge knew that Emma was safe, and he rode out into the woods. He had a plan, but it had to remain relatively clandestine.

Emma felt her arrival at home in some deep part of her that was aware.

"It's quite alright," Scribbler replied with a half-smile, pushing a comfortable-looking lounge chair forward so Emma could be moved to it.
The carpet was dispelled to retreat inside the ink bottle, and the vampire heaved a sigh of relief, wandering amongst the shadowed shelves as if searching for pillows and blankets.

"I hope Lord Bainbridge doesn't mind the suddenness..."

She found some and proceeded to lay it over the unconscious enchantress.

Nyrk did set Emma upon Scribbler's proffered chair, then sat upon one himself. "I'ven't met the man before. I suppose there's no way of knowing what temperment he might have against us uninvited..." Nyrk's voice was concerned; it was no wiser to upset a sorcerer than it was to upset a sorceress. Nyrk sat about uncomfortably, wishing to read Emma's tomes, but unable to do so without permission. So he sat still in wait.

The hoofbeats from outside stopped suddenly as the Lord of Bainbridge realized that he was being an idiot in leaving without checking on Emma. Concern won over the desire to take vengeance, and he turned his horse around, heading back towards the estate at a gallop.

"I've met him once, if I recall...he seemed quite kind, if also quite powerful."
Scribbler hung about the shadowy shelves, leaning mildly against one. "Though if the wards let us pass, I think we're safe."
She paused, still huddled in the small patch of shadow, and gazed pensively at the exorcist.
"You spoke of purifying Emma, Reverend...how exactly does that work?"

There was the muffled thud of a dismount from a horse, and footsteps growing louder with every passing moment.

Outside, the jets of a drop ship could be heard, landing on the estate grounds, shortly before taking off. The Imperator entered the library. He needed some answers for the energy surges and odd crystals his troops witnessed in the Black Forest. He wasn't aware however, of the state Emma was in. He stepped out from the row of books to find Emma passed out, Scribbler and Nyrk.

There was a brief silence and then Remus spoke up. "Oh...I hope I'm not intruding..."

Uh oh...
It was a little too late to flee; the vampire sensed the resident sorcerer growing closer. She shrank back against the shelves, taking a deep breath to steady herself. Scribbler hoped he wasn't too angry about the intrusion, but this was the safest place she could think of.

The door opened, and instead of Hrothbert, Remus entered, and Scribbler blinked.
"...erm...I'm not sure anymore," she admitted.

Right on Remus' heels, the sorcerer came near-sprinting into the library. Careening around the door, he was at Emma's side faster than was humanly thought possible.

He barely noticed that he had run right past Remus, and had not even sighted Scribbler.

The noble did not look dangerous at the moment, and there was no magic crackling in the air around him.

He looked human, and concerned for the elf-woman whose hand he now held.

Remus looked at Hrothbert and Emma and then his gaze focused on Scribbler. He silently walked over to her. Even though he considered her a rival, he was willing to put it aside.

"What exactly happened in the Black Forest?" he asked Scribbler in a hushed tone.

Scribbler felt no such rivalry between them, and replied in a whisper, "Emma almost gave in and used black magic."
That was the short version.
"That storm your legion saw was just the beginning of it; Emma said that she wanted to end it all, to turn their bones into lead and bury the camp in the earth...something in the camp might have triggered it. The reverend showed up and cleansed her, and she's been unconscious from then on," she continued.
She wasn't looking at Remus, but rather at the two figures, one lying on the chair and the other holding Emma's hand.

He bent over Emma, his hand still clutching hers, and whispered something in her ear. Not a spell, and in no language other than plain and simple English.

"Come back, Emma. Please."

And so she did.
