What kind of music do you all listen to? I'm curious, because I can't really attach a genre to anyone.

God, but I couldn't tell you. Anything but *some* rap and country. I like a lot of old stuff (Aretha Franklin to ACDC), and a lot of new stuff (Natasha Bedingfield, Missy Elliot, etcetera). I just like music with merit.

Wow I can't stand rap or country and the only band I recognized was ACDC. I'm more into Alternative, Rock, and Screamo. Like Panic! At the Disco, Styx and Scary Kids Scaring Kids.

In all honesty, I guess I favor more solo singers than bands....

You realize they are just bands that give all the credit to the singer.

Oh, sure--I just like the directness of the soloist. No quarreling over songs, no crippling band break-ups--and a lot of soloists use choruses instead of a back-up band, or, especially in New Age, synthesizers instead of other people altogether.

Yea I like real people. Soloists are kind of sappy. Plus bands have hot guys and you can listen to their voices forever. Who cares about quarreling, and band break ups. You listen to the music they make and if you don't like it you don't. Like Fall Out Boys new album sucks so I don't listen to it, just the old stuff.

I just think bands get...fake too quickly. (Not to say that soloist don't start fake sometimes.) No one--no one--would ever call Aretha Franklin fake. I think having that soloist crystallizes the music--it gives it a name, a personality. Not a band name. Not an album.

I don't know how to explain it. But there is a vast difference between, say, Alicia Keys and a band 'with a pianist' (which I've heard a certain emo band called.) You know?

No I'm not following. It is probably blatantly obvious, but no.

That's okay--I don't know how to express it. It's as much my fault as yours. Maybe more.

I'm more into the music than the band and its fakeness. It's kind of like an addiction, listening to other peoples emotions. In song, or any form.
PostPosted: Fri Jan 18, 2008 6:52 pm

I understand what you're saying about the whole soloists and bands thing.

Bands do tend to break up a lot. I was sad when Creed broke up, but then Scott Stapp came out with his solo album and it sounded just the same. lol... so I guess the band didn't make any difference.

Anywho... I listen to all sorts of music. If it sounds good to me, I like it. I listen mostly to all sorts of rock though. Cradle of Filth, Within Temptation, Nirvana, Disturbed, Three Days Grace, Trapt, Papa Roach, Puddle of Mudd, Lacuna Coil, Evanescence... you get the idea.

And I love 80's music! Berlin is my favorite. whee

Yea I listen to Nirvana and Evanescence too. I'm more into before the 80's music and after the 90's. They are kind of like the Dark Ages of music in my opinion.

Wow, how coincidental has this thread turned? I Just got in from a Three Days Grace concert who also featured Econoline Crush and Seether. Holy nipples batman! I still can't hear in my left ear! Take that Varos for quirky poetics! I have so many videos and pictures. My only regret is that I couldn't get closer, so my girl friend and I had to pretty much stand right in front of a 10 foot speaker. Granted, we had a great spot if it weren't for sons of witches pushing and shoving past every 10 minutes.

Awe well, I moshed them pretty good, got into a fight with a guy, hit him solid in the kidney and down he went! Served him right, I would've got his buddy too but he'd taken off into the crowd and I knew if I'd left I'd prolly never find my lady again. What a night, good music, good moshing, good fight. I'm gonna say it, F*******g eh! Wow... deary deary.

As for music, I mostly listen to rock, pop and rap/hiphop/R&B, I really don't know what the big difference is between those last ones but hell, I might as well give them some due. Granted, I will listen to everything, even Arabian, if its good. The only thing I really don't like is country, because how many songs of dead dogs and wives leaving and horses dying songs can tere possibly be written?! JEEZE! BUCK UP CHUCK! Frig monkeys...

So yeah, music is good, got some Fitty Sent on in the back, I can't barely hear it! Bah! And next week I go see Michael Buble at the ACC, then two weeks after than I'm back at the Kool Haus for HEDLEY! Hedley should be awesome, gonna go with my sister and a few of her friends, it should be a smoshin' good time.

Well ladies and Leavaros, I bid you all...

A good night.

Sorry, Leav. Don't worry about me. And it's all better now. Weed's not overprotective...he's still "letting" me go with Kenny tomorrow. We might go see Sweeny Todd.

The movie stucked anyway. I'm sorry Weed wasted his money to see the damn thing again with me. I laughed the whole time where I probably should have cried. Weed admitted to almost crying, and several of his friends actually did cry when they saw it the first time. I thought it was halarious the whole way through.

And I listen to rock, by the way. Mostly whatever's on the local rock radio stations.
