Mwar har har...

scream THIS IS THE ABSOLUTE STUPIDEST QUESTION EVER TO EXIST ON A PHYSICS UNIT EXAM!

A gun is aimed at a target, suspended 15 meters above the ground. The target is dropped at the same time that the gun is fired. The bullet will:
a) Hit the target
b) Go over the target
c) Go under the target
d) Go beside the target.

That is the exact question. Allll the info they give us. scream stressed domokun

The answer they want is B.

That's stupid though. If the gun is directly under the target and aimed at it, then it could just as well hit it.

*Nods* B makes the most sense (the bullet would go where the target used to be), but I kinda like Lykus' (Lykus's? What's the grammar on that?) version of it XD

Well, what if it were pointing to the middle of the target and the target was really, really big? Then...it would technically hit. What if the bullet travels at the speed of light? Then it would hit XD

Lol!
Yeah, it's a pretty dumb question... But I guess they were asking for some kind of generic answer...

Actually, I just had some fun with one math test and for one question put "I cannot answer this question because It is part of a belief I do not share.." Yay word questions with 'evolution' mentioned ONCE in it xd

What if the gun was a shotgun? Bullet spray is an issue...
PostPosted: Tue Mar 08, 2005 9:32 pm

*smiles at the glomps* Well.. Theoretically the bullet will hit the target since the force of gravity acts on the target and the bullet with the same force. The only difference is that the bullet will follow more of an arc than a vertical line. Of course this is assuming the bullet is fired horizontally and that no extra force was added to the target when it was released. ... I think....

*rereads the question* Or is it saying the gun is on the ground and just the target aimed... God... *whimpers* Give me a picture!!

It would be Lykus's 'cause Lykus' would basically be a lot of Lyku's owning something.

Hey, a Lyku can be pretty greedy/good at video games. Lykus > Lyku, though.

Actually, you guys are wrong, neglecting any outside forces, and assuming both the target and bullet obey laws of gravity, the correct answer will be A. Remember, as the target falls due to gravity, so too will the bullet at the same acceleration, they will always be in the same vertical position even as the bullet speeds towards the target.

I will grant however, that it should mention the absence or presence of air resistance, at that is what determines the correct answer (A or B).
