Hmm, well has he always lived in humid environments, like the South? I know Tommy was telling me since he's been over there he's had REAL bad problems with dry skin, I mean really bad.

This will sound crazy, but it's a Chinese remedy my dad was talking about you put a little bit on honey into your bath water. We've tried putting crisco on my brother once, that wasn't very successful.

I'm glad to hear you're not leaving for good monkey, I totally understand having to go to real life first! Just let us know how you and Eric are!

Lol I'm not sure how well the honey stuff will work, but my brother said it helped a little bit. I'm trying to find out more about the stuff my dad got from China, but well, last time I talked to my dad it lead to numerous guilt trips, blah blah, don't want to bore ya'll with that.

Oh wow, foods! It's so much fun to watch their faces when they try new things. Don't sweat the "overweight" thing, Yuna! Logan was 24 lbs. around 6-7 months, he was a chunk! They really do slim down and if he's not eating pure junk (which I've never run into a kid who does at that age!) he'll be all right, it's amazing how they slim down when they get older!

Regarding Eczema... I suffer from it when I'm in the northern country like now. The main thing that helps me is a product from mary Kay, I usually don't endorse products, but this one really helped me. It is the night cream they have. I found that I coat myself in it, it soaks in and I don't have a problem for days. It is only $10.00 a jar and the jar lasts me 4 months

Hi! I'm glad to hear Eric is doing better. Is the nebulizer helping much?
Have a great time in Kansas. wink I'm sure you will. wink
I couldn't get into the Guilds for the past couple of days.
Emme was chosen to be in a play. She auditioned on her birthday and got a part - so we've been going to rehearsals this week. She seems really excited about it. Robert is going to be in the Spelling Bee next week. And I have kindergarten registration for James next week, too.
I have an appointment with a surgeon next week to discuss my options. They want to do a biopsy, of course, but I am really not looking forward to it.

I live in New England so I'm used to dry winter skin. stressed I get adult acne, too. Go figure! Neutrogena makes a really great shower gel called Rainbath. You can get a drugstore-brand version of it, too. They also have a spray-on oil for after the shower.

I occasionally put vaseline on my hands and wear cotton gloves to bed. That helps with cracked skin. Someone recommended Bag Balm to me and I tried it a few times, but I hate the smell.

Thank you all for the eczema input! Sorry if I'm off topic sweatdrop , but I figured I may as well ask since sopme of you were talking about it.

Anywho, in reference to where the hubby has lived... MOSTLY in the humid south (southern Mississippi right on the Gulf to be exact), but as a military brat, he also lived in California and Maryland for a while during his childhood as well. And to my knowledge he never had any eczema problems until lately.

However, he has always been a bit "rashy/dry skinned" ever since I first met him (8 years ago), but nothing to the extent it is now. He's very self-concious about as well (as in how it looks). And I'm sure that's why it took him so long to bring it up with his doctors. I guess he figured it would just go away.

I will mention the honey-bath thing to him and see if that helps ease it any. Also, would anyone know what may trigger this? The dryer northern weather? Stress? Clothes washing detergents? Etc?

naaman was diagosed as autistic spectrum disorder this summer....... his vocabulary skills are picking up. and his immitation skills are still picking up.. i guess i have a lot of faith and hope for him because he makes good eye contact which a lot of autistic children do not. however, even tho at school he'll sit at a table with other children, he will only play alone. he won't really 'interact' if you get me. he's 4 now.. and has a very limited vocabulary.

There is hope here. A lot of it. I did not start speaking until I was about 8 yrs. old. Not that I couldn't - I just had very little to say to the outside world. These days it's hard to get me to shut up. smile
In kindergarten they noticed I was extremely antisocial, never played with the other children, etc. We are still looking into the causes of what happened.
There was a suggestion that the diagnoses could have come back Asperger's Syndrome or N.I.D.S. both of which are forms of autism supposedly.
I am now a happy, adjusted adult with a daughter of my own though so keep up hoping!

Wow eek I didn't know children could be affected by Bi-polar/ Manic behaviour. How did you find out?

I was 8 yrs. old when I first showed signs of Clinical Depression.
Children are not usually affected by these types of disorders because many of them begin during puberty. However, if your child shows signs of being depressed you need to take it seriously. If a teacher at school mentions that you child is behaving erraticaly you need to take it seriously.
It's a miracle that I pushed through to my 20's without treatment at all. Now I have been treated and have a life.
Children are not immune. Children can still go through it. Children can die as a result of stuff like this. (If anyone had bothered to take me for treatment when I was 8 I would not have tried suicide when I was 10, 13, 14, 16, etc.)
Listen to your kids. Know your kids.

So.. how can you tell if your child is special needs? I guess i just over worry everything because everyone tells me that my youngest is fine. She's just extremely shy, she does talk and has alot of words that she says.. she listens and understands extremely well.. but Im just overly used to how much and how well my oldest daughter was talking at this age (16 months as of Christmas day)..
Sometimes it just frustrates me.. I for the longest time thought she had a hearing problem.. but then after tests and all that.. it was just decided that she was busy paying attention to the world and taking everything in. She's a real thinker, and likes to study things from almost every direction. She wants to know how the world, and every little thing she comes across works.. and that's why she isn't too focused on talking alot.
*shrugs*
you guys just all seem alot stronger than me.

Does she sound like she's okay? I never questioned a single thing with my oldest as far as learning goes.
I don't know what classifies as a speech delay for this age.. but the following are words my youngest (the one Im worried about) says on a daily basis.

Mom, Mama (she'll use both, depending on her mood)
Daddy, Dad, Dada (again, depending on mood.. Dada and Mama are when she is scared comfort mostly)
Kitty (we have two cats)
Ow! (for whenever she bonks her head or anything else)
Cold! (because she's taken to touching the windows, and there is a foot of snow on the ground outside.. which makes the windows cold)
Candy, Cup, Milk, More, Ni night, All done, Bath?, Toes, bye bye?, this, that, fan, teddy, bear, monkey, dance, milk, okay, hello (which is said as "ohh?" when picking up a toy phone), Karya (her older sisters name), Minnie (she loves minnie mouse), pizza, juice...

and a few others.. that I forget until she says em..

Is this 'normal' for a 16 month old?.. I guess I figured I would ask people who would know what was not considered "normal" for this age...
heh.. thankyou..

Sounds exactly (except for the shyness part) like my 19 mnth. old. Shannon isn't a special needs child... she's just got the brains to decide when she'd like to speak and when she'd like to be quiet. The best thing we've done is to have regular visits to neighbours, family, malls, stores, parks... anywhere where she can interact with other people. If she chooses to speak with them then she will.
Your baby sounds fine smile

well here's an update......ben has to get tubes in his ears,

My hubby just told me to let you know something:
His brother had those tubes in his ears. You should ask the doctor about special ear plugs for bathing, swimming, playing in and around water. Apparently you will need them (?).

*grin* Can't edit...
Hubby mentioned a bathing cap (you know the plastic stretchy things all the girls in the 50's wore?). They can protect the ear and save having as many ear infections when combined with the special ear plugs. It might be worth looking into if you haven't already.

Hi Loki,
Here's what I know.... wink
People with eczema sometimes have asthma or allergies, too. The skin seems to be more sensitive to chemicals. Stress is definately a trigger! Food allergies (like eggs, milk, wheat, soy, peanuts) can worsen eczema rashing. Allergies to pet dander, smoke, chlorine, perfumes, scratchy fabrics (like wool) and dust can also be triggers. We use perfume-free and dye-free laundry detergents because my son gets really rashy from detergents. He prefers to wear cotton clothing, too.

The dermatologist told me to avoid itching, since that can break the skin which can lead to bacteria getting in. And it's better to take warm rather than hot showers, because the hot water can aggrivate the condition. Flare ups can also happen from sweating and then chilling (going from indoor heating to frigid winter temperatures!).
