The night I saw the Ring for the first time, I tried to get my boyfriend to take the TV out of our room. He refused, but he stayed with me til I fell asleep. heart I dunno why that movie freaked me out so much...

shocktv3 those documentaries on discovery channel n such about ghosts n hauntings freak me out. 3nodding I love those! 4laugh But nothing compares to the time I got the choking ghost. I remember waking up in the middle of the night a couple years ago...I tried to flip over to get comfortable again and I found that I couldn't move a muscle! eek Before I knew it, I could feel this intense pressure on my chest and throat pushing me down into the bed...my eyes were open wide, my screams were coming out in little gasps....verrrry freaky. Then it just disappeared, just as quickly as it came. I jumped up and ran into my sister's room, and slept with her that night. There's probably a scientific explanation for it, but I like to think of it as my supernatural experience. wink My brother used to get it all the time when he was little, and my sister recently got it in Hawaii....crazy, no?

Can't remember the scientific name for it. The whole awake but unable to move, speak or anything occurs when one fails to return naturally from REM sleep, or so I'm led to believe. Your nervous system and most functionality is shut down when you sleep, if you're perhaps shocked awake by something (for example the unusual surroundings of Hawaii which may have stopped your brother sleeping) then your brain and head may well seem to be awake, but it could take a few moments for the signals to be sent from the brain to the rest of the body to leave REM, hence the sudden ending of the pressure and your return to normal.
The opposite of that condition is sleepwalking, when the body doesn't completely shut down due to some obstructing mental work, eg. stress or anxiety.
I'm no expert, but the physics of sleep is something I enjoy learning about.

I share my house with the ghost of a black cat. Every so often, I clearly see a black cat with yellow eyes out of the corner of my eye, but when I turn to look, it vanishes. Oh, and there was one time when it walked across my bed when I was lying in it. Seriously, I could feel cat paws tugging on the covers, but when I looked, there was no cat.
