Leif snorted. It still ment seeing someone on a semi regular basis. He didn't like people knowing things about him. It unsettled him not to be the only person in his little world. He was fine with strangers. Strangers don't know about your past. Strangers don't worry about you, generally.

Then again there was the extra effort of hunting down a partener. He let out a deep sigh and settled back in his chair. He felt like he'd just inherited something big, and wasn't prepared for the consequences, like some young prince who's father had just kicked the bucket. What a pain.

"There are... some mages without partners," Shadi mumbled quietly. "But... they're usually weak ones with powers diluted enough so that they don't draw any attention to themselves. It's just... when your magic is strong... it's hard to be alone...." he continued, eyes downcast. "Mages... lone mages tend to be even more paranoid than the rest of us, although it's much easier to identify a paired mage - we all have the same ring on the same finger of the same hand." Shadi knew that Gervain had some undealt with enemies. If he or Gervain died, the remaining partner would likely be murdured within forty-eight hours of the original death. That thought made him shiver and shift slightly closer to his partner.

"What, do you... Do we gang up on each other?" Leif didn't think it was that smart. Everyone was after mages anyway, and to kill each other as well just seemed redundant. He hugged himself and glanced around the room again. Nervous. He'd gotten himself into a shitty predicament if that was true. Here were three mages that weren't allied with him.
"Greeeat."

Shadi nodded sadly, but this time it was Ger who spoke. "No one knows really who started the whole... fighting thing. It seems a little pointless. But there's no way for all of us to stop, no way for all of us to communicate. If we used the media, then it would allert normal people to our existance. Anyway, not everyone would hear. There are mages in every country across the world, not just in New York. Anyway... you try and convince every mage to stop the way of life that they know. There are some that kill for no purpose - simply because they enjoy it. I... hate meaningless people like that." Ger finished with a rather disgusted expression on his face - and it was ginuine. Gervain might be... crude, cruel and hurtful, but he never killed for the sake of killing. Only for gain or in need. In Leif's case, it had been for gain. There were hints and signs that Gervain and Shadi would be facing another pair soon enough... and not a small trifle.

Leif shrugged, closing his pale eyes again. The weariness was rising and receding in rythmic waves now, giving him a strange sensation of floating. He wasn't sure that he'd ever been stressed to this point in his insomnia before. He started playing his index fingertip over his thumbnail to keep himself concious. This was torture. The chair was so comfortable, the room so much warmer than his abandoned, unpowered room. He could drown in the heat.

But there were so many things to fear; those implications in Gervain's tone, the other mage's in the room, the thoughts of other mages coming after him. Another wave of desire to sleep washed over him at the mere thought of using that massive store of power again. That wave made the power in him purr and brush against his concious. If he didn't sleep for real shortly than he was going to end up as that thing again.

"Let me, ummm... let me make you some soothing tea," Shadi mumbled, standing up. "It'll help your nerves. I know... I know all this is a surprise - it must be - but you... you just have to live with it and make the best you can out of it," he murmured. "I... I'm not sure that makes it any better, but... it's... well... uhmm... If you need, you can come here... if you need some help...." He looked back to Gervain for reassurance. Reluctantly, the older of the pair nodded, his eyes glancing off to oneside. Shadi instictive motherlyness was going to be the death of him one day. Shadi smiled brightly and then shuffled off to go make some tea. Some nice, soothing tea....

"Tea? ... Tea sounds good." He purred out, his voice lowered a bit and showing how close the other was to the surface. However, this time Leif seemed to be keeping it contained a bit better. The room kept it's bookish scent, ink and paper, and his eyes only darkened a few shades. They were no where near the vibrant emerald they had been before. "Thank you."

Somehow that seemed to make it ok to relax. Of course it was easier to trust the gentler of the pair, but he was just so tired that he couldn't hold up suspision anymore.

Brice was surprised when Shadi called out for him to stay, so he did. Much to Gervain's annoyance he was sure. Listening to the moody mage explain the basics of partnering and such, Brice leaned against one of many bookshelves, arms crossed over his chest. Well since Gervain obviously knew he was a mage now, and had no ring on his hand from partnership, Brice wasn't sure if he was safe around this kid anymore. It didn't matter how old or young a mage was, it didn't mean they were less powerful.

When Shadi got up to make Leif some tea, Brice waited a moment before following.

"I could use another drink..." he stated plainly, so Gervain wouldn't have a reason to b***h at him. Though he knew it wouldn't stop him from doing so. Waiting till he was in the kitchen with Shadi, Brice was silent for a moment, watching the younger boy.

"So... do you really think me being here will do anything?" Brice asked, not too loudly, he didn't need Gervain hearing their talk.

"I'm sure my magic is nothing compaired to Gervain's... whatever you fear him doing I won't be able to stop him, but I won't leave you... since I'm already here." Brice then grinned.

"Besides, I can tell my presence annoys the hell out of that boy, so that's more the reason for me to stay."

Leif's eyes slowly followed the motion, green orbs chasing after figures leaving the room. He'd always liked tea, the warm earthiness reminded him of a feeling he could only place as 'home'. Something made him think that guy who wasn't making tea was just as nervous about the situation as the geomancer himself. Though right now, he didn't have the wits about him enough to be nervous. Two days past ones bed time will do that to a person.

His eyes pivoted back to Gervain, like a hawk following potetial prey. Though that was only the power brushing at his concious mind again.

"Are you still planning on killing me?"

Shadi looked up as the other spoke and gave him a small shrug. "It's better than nothing.... And Ger... doesn't like Cryomancers. He never really told me why... but I think I might know. But, then again, Ger doesn't seem to like much of anyone," he murmured, giving a small, hopeless sigh. He ran a hand unconsciously through his soft, light gray hair. He smiled slightly at the other's last comment. "Mmm... well, that's not uncommon, either. Ger doesn't like anyone who is... around me with out first knowing him. He hates for me to go out on my own...." he explained softly, reaching up into a cabinet for the tea pot - he had hot water already, as he was quite fond of tea himself. There was almost always hot water ready in the kitchen. He set the pot down so that he could search for various tea packets as well as herbs - he was quite prided with his own recipees and mixes for tea - and began to add them to the tea pot, which was now full of water. "That should be good..." he murmured to himself, smiling as a sweet, minty fragrence began to fill the room.

Gervain looked up and smiled. "... Not as of now. I was only picking on you earlier in the hopes that your magic wouldn't awaken during my attack. I rarely kill others without need. My main sorceof spirits and corpses are from those already dead - it's less messy that way. But I assumed that your magic, being unknown, would be weaker. A mage's body and spirit are always stronger and better than that of a regular human being." He leaned back in the soft, cushiony loveseat, surveying the other carefully. "ANyway, if I planned on killing you, I would not have informed you as I have. And I would not have let you anywhere near Shadi - unless, of course, I was planning on relying on his magic."

So bascially Gervain hated him because he was a Cryomancer... and that he was hanging around Shadi. Give a guy a chance for Christ's sake. Liking the smell that came about the room, Brice wondered what kind of tea the kid was making.

Such a shame Shadi wasn't a girl and maybe ten years older.

"It's really a shame you're stuck with such a guy." Brice said, though he'd been thinking it more, it just happened to come out. Which happened a lot to him.

"Not saying anyone paired with me, if I had someone, would be better off." he added as an after thought, since it was probably true. He could be just as much of an a*****e as Gervain, more in the way that he said whatever he felt like saying, whenever he wanted too. But... Gervain just seemed... different, a whole level above him.

"I... i - it's not..." he mumbled, his voice sounding slightly hurt. He turned away to hide his expression, which was both saddened and a little... anxcious. He wasn't really totally sure about himself when it came to Gervain. "Ger... Ger is all I have... My... my family was murdered... Ger saved me. He's all I have left...." he said, shoulders slumping in a dejected sort of way. It was quite obvious he had thought over this subject very often - he seem resigned to the way things were. "And he's... he's not as bad as he seems," he added after a moment. But Shadi wasn't entirely sure of that. In fact, Gervain could be MUCH worse than what Brice probably thought of him. But he was also... there were times when... times when he was kind and... and he didn't hurt Shadi so much.

" Are you sure? I can make something for you anyway," Shiyaa said as he walked out of his room, wearing a large shirt with some video game logo on it and sweat pants. Normally, he hated pants, but he liked sweat pants in the winter.

Kiyo looked at both Kuno and Kaya, smiling, " You guys can sit, you know," He said, jumping on the couch.

"So.....You're both mages?" Kuno asked softly, looking at Shiyaa. Their both cute....especially the one with the kid....very cute.... Kuno thought. At that moment a smll ringing sound came from his backpack, though he didn't seem to hear it

A softer smile lit over Leif's face. After seeing it, one might think the pale-eyed man smiled often, his lips looked like they were made to smile. However, as right as it looked, that expression was rare, and more than likely influenced by the scent of tea and the lack of people left in the room to put more stress on him.

"How sweet of you." He purred out sarcastically. He was seeming a little off, but it was because he was just figuring out how to carefully press that power back without exerting himself too much.

Kaya looked at Kuno, if a bit uncomfortably, and shrugged his shoulders."If you want to call me that, yes. But I'm still not sure myself. I can barey control my magic and....." he trailed off, fearing to say that he was partnerless, or moreover, that he'd probably killed his lover and partner to be. He quickly made something up to cover for his trailing off."I don't have a mentor to teach me, so I'm pretty sure I'm hopeless." He fiddled with a clasp on his right hip until he popped a small rod loose from it. A small, nearly transparent, seafoam green crystal rested on it's end. He still couldn't remember why he had it but he couldn't find it in himself to throw it out.
