Michael is furious. He snarls angrily when his packmates are downed, one by one, until he is the only one left. His anger turns to Lucas when his arm is grabbed, and he lunges for the other were-

Pain. Pain, so much pain? Where was his family? Where was his pack? He had tried to make one, tried to find one, but it was too much. Pain pain suffering HATE—

Why did you leave me, brother? Why did you all- why did none of you find me? Alone, alone, so alone, so in pain, so HATEFUL of the ones who have not been wracked with suffering-

With a howl of pain, Michael rips himself away from Lucas, staring dumbly at the other. He is furious, still. But he seems incapable of fighting further. Instead, he backs away- like a cornered animal- growling furiously as he pulls away from the rest of the group. The boy’s hair stands on end and his teeth are bared in unadulterated hatred.

Whatever their plan, they need to do it quickly. The police are arriving, and while Michael has been calmed by the touch, it does not seem as if it will last long.

With a clawed hand, Eve pointed sternly at the alpha who'd just made a lunge at Lucas. "Go on, then. But before you go, think about how the same magic that's making them suffer is what made us family, so they're our family too. Are you really going to turn your back on another member of our pack when they need us the most, just because you don't have all the answers to this? And will you be able to look at their faces when they're in their right mind and tell them you did the right thing?"

Her voice was filled with rare anger, and -- perhaps even worse -- tinged with genuine disappointment in the veteran.

Shun grunted lowly, falling silent again for the time being. He had no further input, given that the others were now talking about things he had no knowledge of. It irritated him. And such, he made his way over towards the top of one of the sets of stairs.

"Someone else watch the other set. Keep an eye out for the officers on their way," he stated. It was one of the only things he could do at this point.

The blacks of his pupils practically swallowed his red iris, staring at the Alpha he did not know and did at the same time. Family. And anger. He was so angry at them, like it was their fault -- and Lucas almost believed him.

Then the other ripped away, and Lucas stumbled back, watching him with his body tense.

"I have touched them, almost all of them, Eve," he snarled, teeth bared, "so take them! I'm not stopping you!" Lifting a hand coated in the blood of weres and the two women he'd taken away from the massacre, he wiped his bearded jaw. "He blames us. He's in the throes of madness and there will be no reasoning, so take him if you want. Your time is short."

His eyes turned to Eve. "It's not the right thing, taking them there. Do what you need to do, but I'm not going with you." Lucas slid to the side and kept his eyes on the Alpha -- and slowly advanced, trying to corral him towards the elevator.

Lily didn't like the idea of going back to Other Ashdown, but when her options were that or cops, she nodded her head slowly in agreement.

"Lucas," she spoke up, and her voice wavered as his name rolled strangely off of her tongue--it felt wrong that it wasn't Skywalker or Sprinkles or something silly to put the both of them at ease. "He's one of us, we should be there with him when he goes back through, Mercer or no Mercer." She glanced over at the detective as an afterthought, trying to flash an apologetic smile. He'd been instrumental to securing the others and so incredibly helpful, but at the end of the day he wasn't going to have to live with this the way that the rest of them were. He wasn't the one sprouting fur and fangs.

"Besides," she pointed out, trying desperately not to feel small, "Jamie's the baby and he's eighteen, which means we're all adults in this situation." She stepped forward, towards the alpha and the rest of the elevator crew. "You don't get to decide if the risks are worth it for me. I do. And I'm helping our pack."

Lily frowned softly, looking at the wolverine with a combination of resolution and pity. She'd already hurt so many members of her new family tonight, what was one more?

"I don't get to decide for you," he agreed dimly, still moving slowly to try and dictate the position of the Alpha, "but that doesn't mean I wont fight for you."

Lucas glanced to her, and then away, as if it hurt. "You have to do what you feel is right, Sunshine. That's all any of us can do."

"I doubt anyone here thinks Other Ashdown is free of dangers. Neither is the real world. But there is one thing we can say about it with confidence, Lucas." Breathe. "Going there is what kept us lucid. I'm not going to sacrifice the chance we can help them more there." She moved closer to Lily, touching her arm reassuringly.

"Lucas, as much as you loathe the magic that you're part of - it is in you and part of you - and you will have to accept that," Jeremiah says to him and moves to help get Michael towards the elevator.

"If you knew, for a moment -" he took a breath and shook his head. It was not worth it. These others were in pain and they needed to be on the other side now.

Jeremiah nodded to Eve and then to Lily as well. "Kuroda, get people on the stairs. We're still trying to secure people up here."

As they corral him towards the elevator, Michael's eyes hone like a hawk's on the touch between Eve and Lily. He growls, but not at them. The anger is directed straight at Jeremiah.

The werewolf shot Eve and Jeremiah a dark look. "Stop talking about me and do something for them!"

Lucas was entirely done with talking to two people who had embraced what he would not. Guilt-tripping and philosophical bullshit was not going to change his mind. If they couldn't give the soldier something to believe in, then they'd have to carry that faith themselves.

He advanced again, resolute. "Come on buddy," he intoned to the Alpha, "let us help. It's what family does." Or was supposed to do.

Eve huffed a sigh, and turned her attention to the wolverine. It was oddly more calm than she'd expected, and, perhaps foolishly, she leaned forward to make eye contact and offered a hand for him to touch. "Can you understand me? We want to help you. And we're sorry we didn't find you in time."

Jeremiah's eyes flick to the Michael's and he stares at him. He's standing beside the elevator.

Lucas is ignored.

"You need to be back on the other side and we're just waiting for the ride to get here," his head tilts towards the elevator and he looks to Eve who is talking to him as well. "You and everyone else right now. I know you're not supposed to be here, Michael. Ashdown isn't your place anymore, not right now."

At least he assumed he needed to be on the other side with Adoelle and Heliodora. Whatever had brought him here was bad news.

Lily leaned into Eve's touch, but bit her lip as she looked at Lucas. Standing up for herself had been all well and good, but it tore into her to hear the drop in his voice as he turned away. It was more her nature to bend, to compromise, but all of that was so hard when there were people's lives on the line.

But when Eve leaned forward, her eyes widened, thinking of the wicked slashmarks on Falco's back. "I...I don't know that that's a good idea--" she murmured, her voice low and her body still. The last thing she wanted to do was rush in and incite a panic.

As he moved towards the stairs, Shun did what he could to maintain a straight posture. He was tired, in pain, and had lost a fair amount of blood at this point. There was no hiding the visible slash marks on him, but the least he could do was make it seem like they weren't nearly as bad as they looked.

"Yes sir," he answered Jeremiah. He was already on that, anyway. With a grunt, he spoke to the others, "You heard him. I need more eyes on the stairs."

This was going to be a major pain in the a** to explain later on. He was not looking forward to it.

Shun didn't have to order twice. With disheveled hair and small cuts littering her body, Chel had moved to autopilot. Just do what needed to be done. Do what was commanded. Be a knight.

She moved towards the stairs Shun had pointed out.

To the arguing folks she yelled, "Who ******** cares just get it out of here!" Kill it, shove it in some mystic magic portal, restrain it then kill it- as far as Chel was concerned, it just needed to go away. Go back to normalcy. Get away from magic.
