Mercy watched Riko get up, not moving, uncertain of whether or not she was expected to follow. Then came the invitation, and Mercy grinned as she hopped to her feet. She went over to the bed and fell beside Riko. Oh ********. This bed was so soft. In fact... "Hey, you're bed's softer than mine," Mercy complained, frowning slightly. But she relaxed, unable to remain annoyed while resting on this cloud-like mattress. She turned on her side, facing Riko and Elle, eyes taking in the sight before her. She couldn't help smiling. Her family. Not what she had pictured, but, hey, she would take it.

Mercy ruffled Elle's hair, then curled up and closed her eyes. "Okay, time to sleep. Stop keeping us up, Riko. Jesus." Mercy grinned.

Riko instantly pressed a finger to Mercy's lips, shushing her with an eye still closed, she just wanted some silence, a bit of "shut the hell up" time. Mercy seemed to want to try messing with her, she had better be careful, Riko wasn't above "accidentally" kicking her out of this soft a** bed that she had paid for.

Mercy quieted down, so Riko wouldn't have to flex her muscle, and soon after Riko's eyes closed, and she found herself drifting off to sleep.

Mercy didn't bother Riko any more, falling asleep almost the moment her eyes closed. She had been far more tired than she had realized, and the softness of the bed was offering her weary, aching body the support it needed and then some.

Delorna and Siobahn returned to the hotel room about forty-five minutes later, after a surprisingly complicated trip to find food. As they walked through the door, Delorna was complaining about the restaurant, but Siobahn quickly hushed her, sensing the atmosphere in the room was much quieter and more peaceful. Delorna shot her sister an annoyed look, then placed the bags on the counter of the mini-kitchen and glanced around. "Where did everyone go?" she whispered, confused.

Siobahn quietly walked over to the doorway of Riko's room and found the three on the bed, napping away. Before she could say anything, Delorna appeared at her side. Delorna was far more surprised by the sight in front of her than Siobahn apparently was. "What the...?" Mercy and Riko sleeping peacefully together on a bed with their kid. Not something Delorna had ever expected to see. Suddenly grinning mischieviously, she pulled out her phone and was about to take a picture, but Siobahn quickly intervened with a karate-chop like motion. Meeting Delorna's gaze, she shook her head and left to prepare the food.

Riko remembered Elle as a child, that bubbling bundle of sunshine, that couldn't be dampened no matter the circumstances, and boy had she been put through plenty of dire circumstances. Riko missed that little girl sometimes.... more like all of the time, but maybe it was her fault that the their little girl was gone, and replaced by this thing that sat in front of her.

A smart a** 17 year old girl that Riko was constantly tempted to murder throughout half their days. Even now Riko was contemplating breaking off her foot in Elle's a**. Her sweet little girl had just accidentally admitted to bribing her teachers for passing grades, a action that Riko herself would have done, at her age, but she was trying to teach Elle to be better than herself.

Riko sighed, she knew this was her fault partially, she had gotten Elle into stocks, and had watched as her daughter actually hit a few high marks and earned a nice chunk of money, something which Elle was very proud of, Riko just wished that the money wasn't going to this. "I honestly don't know if I should be more disappointed with you, or the teachers." Riko muttered to herself. "Neither, I don't see what the big deal is, you didn't even finish school, and look at how you turned out, why are you making such a big deal." Riko's eye twitched. "I am where I am, because of dumb luck, and I rather you have some real skills to fall back on, instead of gambling it on all on the market." Riko countered, sighing slowly. "But you-" Elle started but Riko cut her off "I know what I did!" Riko sighed again. "Where is your mother?" Riko wasn't going to be able to handle this efficiently. Elle shrugged in response. "Mercy!"

Mercy was busy in the kitchen, experimenting with new dishes for her restaurant. Yes, her restaurant. A lot had changed over the last decade and a half, including Mercy's career. And Elle. Jesus, everytime Mercy looked at Elle, she swore the girl was a little taller, a little more mature--and a little harder to supervise. Elle took most after Riko, which was probably a good thing overall, but damn did it make her a pain in the a** sometimes, no matter how much Mercy adored her.

Riko's shouting pierced through the music in Mercy's ears like an extra sharp needle. Mercy was startled by the interruption, and her knife slipped and sliced her finger. <********> she hissed, immediately sticking the injured digit in her mouth. (To her credit, Mercy had managed to curb the swearing during Elle's childhood years. But the moment Elle turned fifteen, Mercy reverted to old habits.) Mercy batted away the headphone wires and inspected the damage. Just a cut. Nothing major. But damn, did it hurt. She shook out her finger, then sucked on it again as she looked for Riko and Elle.

Clearly, Mercy had missed something. The air was knee-deep in tension. "What? What's going on?" Mercy asked, sensing something was wrong, but otherwise completely oblivious.

Elle glanced at Mercy for a split-second, then narrowed her eyes on Riko again. "Mom found out I'm bribing my teachers to boost my grades, and now she's mad at me."

Elle had spoken so calmly and matter-of-factly, she caught Mercy off-guard. Mercy's left brow quirked as she regarded her daughter. "Excuse me? You're doing what?"

"I know I can get the grades on my own," Elle insisted, as if that fact somehow supported her argument.

"Why don't you just do that, then?" Mercy asked, confused by her daughter's logic. Were all teenagers this irrational?

Elle shrugged. "Because it's a waste of time."

Riko really hated Elle's attitude and the way she acted as if everything was so obvious to everyone except herself, It infuriated Riko, she didn't know who she got it from, but Riko really wished Elle had left that trait alone with whoever she had inherited it from. "Listen, it is not a waste of time, these years in highschool are building you up for your future, this and college are just steps, and you completely disregarding everything isn't going to help you." Riko tried to reason, Elle looked at her for a moment, and then looked away.

"We only go through school, so we can get degrees so that we have a piece of paper that tells employers that we aren't stupid and that we are hire-able. If I can just pay my way through it. Why shouldn't I?" Elle challenged, and Riko sighed again. "Because the way you plan on paying for your degree won't make you qualified for any line of work, you can have as many certifications as you want, if you don't actually have the skills, you won't last long." Riko argued.

"If that happens I'll just play the stocks and stay rich that way, its not like I need a job." Riko glared at Elle and put her foot down. "Stop bribing your teachers." She said threateningly, decided that she'd be a fool if she just sat there and argued with her own damned child. Elle glared back and stood. "Fine!" She yelled and stormed off. Riko watched her go before turning to Mercy.

"At what age, am I legally able to murder my child?"

Mercy kept opening her mouth, trying to get a word in, but all of her attempts failed, so she eventually just remained silent and listened. Elle had a very idealistic view of life. Although she was smart with numbers and could probably get far on stocks alone, Mercy sided completely with Riko: Elle needed to do the work and learn useful skills. As Elle returned to her room in a parade of angry stomps, Mercy sighed and leaned back into the wall. Riko's question was received with a weary grin.

"Forget the law. It was probably created by childless men, anyway," she replied, shrugging. Mercy ran a hand through her hair, considering the situation again. "We can't let this go with a warning, Riko. This isn't the first time she's tried something like this. Can you... I dunno. Freeze her accounts or something?"

"Freeze her account... I believe I can actually do that, probably have a friend tag a few faulty purchases to it, cause the bank to stop her up a bit, and then if I go and smash her computer...." The last part was just a joke really, but the beginning she was seriously pondering, she had no qualms with appearing like the bad guy in Elle's eyes, it was for her own damn good, you can't just throw money at all your problems unless you were a damn politician and Riko was not raising a goddamned politician.

"I'll see what I can do, later that is. Which one of us is calling the school to throw a fit about these teachers allowing our daughter to do that?"

"Me. I'll do it," Mercy offered immediately, grinning. She already had a reputation in the school system for being a little... outspoken. Maybe she didn't barge into the principal's office every day of the week, but she was a familiar face among the school staff, for better or for worse. These days, Mercy just enjoyed watching the school board squirm.

Mercy pushed herself away from the wall and sighed again. "Maybe it's because she's an only child," she suggested, not entirely joking, but recognizing it had to be more than that. "Maybe we should've adopted another kid."

Riko was glad that Mercy would handle the calling, she really didn't feel like ripping off anyone's head, and she had spoken with the receptionist a few times, she hated that b***h, and she was fairly certain that the b***h hated her back. Mercy tended to get things done on that front a lot better than she ever did, but that wasn't really a shock, Mercy actually talked to people. Not to say that Riko was completely recluse, she just had a preferred list of individuals and would be damned if she extended it without good reason.

Riko stood and ran her fingers through her hair, she thought she had been going crazy at some point thinking it had grown longer, but it hadn't, or so that's what everyone has been telling her, but they didn't know her hair! "You know, you mentioning her having a possible sibling is scary, she could either be an angel, or we could have two evil scam artist running around here, and I only adopt kids I find in alley's so I doubt her having a sibling would have been possible." Riko joked, leaving her hair along finally.

Making small talk she asked. "You working tonight?"

In response to Riko's question, Mercy shook her head. "Not really. But I was going to stop by the restaurant to make sure things are running okay. I've got a new chef I want to check up on. You could join, if you want. Get some free food. Heckle the staff with me." Mercy didn't actually heckle her staff. Usually. They expected it from her, though, and after all the heckling they did to her, the deserved it. "Or," she started, grinning, "we could stay in and 'Netflix and chilld,' as the kids call it these days." Mercy was joking, but if Riko agreed, she probably wouldn't back out.

"That's would of been a miracle, I didn't know that you were running around with chicks who had dicks." Riko commented off handedly, they both knew that the chances of either of them getting pregnant wasn't very high at all, especially not Riko, her eggs were pretty much permanently on ice.

"I guess we can go out if you want. I certainly don't think there will be any 'netflix and chill' Riko corrected teasingly "Going on under this roof for quite some time." Riko said pointedly, remembering that she had a 17 year old daughter who better not even think about getting frisky, with ANY ******** body, any time soon. "Don't let her hear you say that either, took me years to pound into her head, that we are in a relationship, wouldn't want her thinking I was lying to her."
