If you don't drink, you'll die.
At least it was better than the other place. The voices had stopped the minute he stepped out. Like he needed them telling him what was what. Like he didn't know.
Everybody else was drinking out of the pools, and a lot of them didn't look right. There were lots of folks here. Kids, adults, most of them swaying around. Probably because the pool was messed up. All because some stupid sign told them-
It was written down. It was official that's what made it important.
It wasn't important. He could just walk right out of here, he should...he should....should do what he was told, or....
Conflicted, he knelt. He closed his eyes. He drank. When he opened them again, his limbs were longer (if still scrawny), and all of him was gangly and awkward. His arms, at least, were strong. And he was less afraid. He wasn't wearing his face, but that was fine. He knew who he was. What he was doing. What he wanted.

After several minutes of distress, of crying and begging and whining, Mimsy was finally starting to fall asleep in his arms. He felt her settle in, and he shuddered with a heartache that was one part joy, and one part despair. He could fall asleep holding her, and stay right where they were. He could protect her, and help her grow up with someone who actually loved her. Robert could change everything that Mimsy had lived without. But he couldn't, really. Because she had to grow up. Everyone had to grow up, sometime. "Yes baby, you can sleep. Just one more drink." He grabbed a vial, dunked it in one of the fountains, and brought it to her lips. "One more, and you can sleep. Drink for me, baby. I'll protect you."

Piper made an affronted noise at him. "I'm not that tiny!" she huffed, stamping her foot. "My hair totally, like, gives me 3 whole inches! You're tiny." And clearly she was superior.
13 year old Piper was pretty much about the same, only her convictions were strictly on the little things. No pun intended.
She strode with purpose to show that just because she was a little smaller didn't mean she couldn't still be a leader. The next pool, however, looked like it was pure pee. Ew. Ewwwww. Maybe she should make someone drink it first . . . but a new pool was a new pool . . . Face scrunched, Piper took a quick gulp of the water.
It did not taste like pee. It did, however, make her feel a little weird. "Wonder why," she mumbled to the air, almost expecting an answer.

Harland, upon entering, drank first from the pool of Youth. He felt ... lost. He felt small. His youth had been a bleak time for Harland. He had been so glad to get out of it. And here he was, this single sip winding back the hands of time by several years. Harland felt his heart break.
"I don't want t' return, an why would anyone want to?" he asked, quietly, feeling that youthful sense of terror return to his body for a moment. The sense of despair. Loneliness.

Pickworth crouched and tasted another scoop of water curiously, eyes sparkling with amusement. He felt his heart pound. He was afraid. Fear, ah, it was overwhelming, but also good. Powerful.

[[ Harland 2 / 10 ]
Pool of Insanity. Winding back time meant that when Harland drank a sip from the pool of Insanity, he thought he saw a shadowy body flicker into sight. It was only for a second.
When he blinked, and he blinked for too long, he heard a voice. Auberon's voice. Harland kept his eyes shut, searching for Auberon's voice directionally. "I've missed ye, so much it's breakin' my heart," he said, and then he smiled.
"Auberon, what did that poem mean?" he asked, opening his eyes and looking around.
There was no one there.

[ Pool of Insanity ]
"Three inches still makes ya' tiny," said Ignatius, snickers coming from his lips still sounding a whole lot more like giggles than snickers. Intent on continuing to tease her because the faces and motions she was making were rather amusing, and Ignatius was nothing if not interested in things that could make him laugh, Ignatius marched off after Piper to the pee-pool that she decided to stop at.
Ignatius didn't necessarily recognize the color as pee in the way Piper did, but he did recognize the color as very yellow and leaned in towards the water, almost dunking his entire head in it. At the way his eyes nearly blended in with the water, Ignatius laughed aloud, moving in just a bit closer to the water and letting his nose lightly tap it.
Younger Ignatius was still just about as daring as older Ignatius was. Perhaps he was slightly more blatant about it, though.
Maybe slightly... sort of ... barely.
Moving away from the water, he actually took a sip from it, closing his eyes and feeling it go down his throat. Keeping his eyes closed allowed him to visualize some things that seemed very strange, floating around in his vision and taking over his mind. This was a really strange place he found himself in. Pools of weird colored liquids just sitting around and floating all around him. He could see the ripples as they formed, water droplets going up, up, and swirling around him, surrounding him in the waters as he would dive and swim in them, like a majestic toad or a kraken, oh, if he was a kraken, with arms flailing like tentacles and--
His mind was completely on other things, strange and irrational, and he murmured nonsense to a figure off in the distance for a few moments, curious expression on his face like he expected a response.

Effects: 4 Fear 2 Sleep 3 Youth ---
He returned to the pool that was yellow, yellow like sun, soothing yellow that seemed almost to stare at him while he swept out a quick drink, shrinking even as he stared around wide eyed, heart hammering against his ribs so hard it seemed that…if monsters COULD have a heart attack he was likely going to have one. His wings were bare pins of feathers, more needle like than anything resembling the pretty plums of young adult hood.

Insanity[ Harland 3 / 10 ]
Pool of Age.
His years were reset. In fact, he felt older than he had be. Harland was now 27 and he felt a sense of immense calm. More than that, he missed Alistaire, and felt an unnerving need to ask him something important.
"What a strange feelin', but it's better'n what I've left behind," Harland said, with an amused smile.

[ Pool of Youth ]
He would have kept running indefinitely had it not been for the pool of youth.
Brenley was exhausted, his feet barely rising off of the ground with every step he took, and as he turned to look over his shoulder at his newest horrific hallucination, he tripped and splashed face first into the green liquid. He didn't think of drinking any, but as the boil flailed, plenty of it sloshed into his nose and mouth anyway. He began to shrink back to his usual size, then continued growing smaller until he was a handful of inches shorter than he normally was. Bren shivered as he pushed himself onto solid ground, staring at the nightmarish spectacle around him with wide eyes. He had to find Piper and Ignatius before something happened to them.
Pools: 4/4 Total Rolls: 4/10 Other Stuff: sleep 1; age 1 (21); fear 1; youth 1 (13)Quote: Rolling at 1: You may choose which corridor you find next. Rolling a 6: You drink from the pool of youth. Every single time you take a sip from the pool, your (physical and mental) age decreases by three years as does your maturity. If coupled with the pool of age, it resets your age and then subtracts it by three. If you hit 1 year somehow, you stay at that. Youth Insanityx2 Age[ Harland 4 / 10 ]
Pool of Insanity. Now that he'd aged, and he was taking a second sip of the pool of Insanity, the hallucinations returned. This time, he could see Auberon. He sat cross-legged in front of the spectral image of someone he'd used to love.
"It's not so bad here," Harland told him, "An' I do miss ye, don't get me wrong, but I'm... happy with him," Harland said, running a hand through his sunny hair. "I'm full of hope."
Harland was just sitting there, talking to himself, nodding sagely now and again as dream-Auberon told him what he had been up to since he had died.

The flowers were dancing, kind of, swaying to some unseen breeze--oh, no, that was just Taima. This was actually turning out to be a lot more fun than she had expected, impending death aside. She took another sip of the water and laughed.

Youth Insanityx2 Age Sleep[ Harland 5 / 10 ]
Pool of Sleep. Harland drank a single sip from the pool of Sleep, and immediately he felt a little drowsy. Harland looked down at his hands, flexed his fingers, watched them blur in his vision. He couldn't help but laugh. It felt a bit like being drunk, but only off a single sip. Before leaving, he eyed the pool warily.
What would happen if someone drank all of it? Drank too much of it? Would they die?

4 Fear 2 Sleep 3 Youth 1) Age (from 1) and Exit.
Finally, this last bolt away from the room that had made him younger again, he found a new room, he was sure, he KNEW that he hadn't found that color before… four… was it four? He'd drunk from…three? Was it three? He was so unsure anymore. He scrambled forward half falling into the pool and took a sip.
The sound of the water was -horrifying- like something was swimming in it, coming for him…but there was a door, it made him shiver to see it, ominous and large but… but there were sounds in the other rooms, there were people, he'd seen them as he -rushed- past. He needed out, he needed out and he'd just have to take the risk.
He LUNGED for the open door, and was gone.
