Shaw explored the edge of the world, enjoying the quiet majesty of the scenery laid out before him. It was beautiful, the horizon broken only by distant islands dotting the ever-present fog. He gave the small shack with its gliders a considering glance. Well, it wouldn't hurt to try, would it? He cautiously approached a crane-shaped glider, eyeing it's launching mechanism warily. It seemed simple enough. He gave it a few cranks, hopped in- And gasped as he was suddenly airborne. The sensation was as frightening as it was exhilarating.

Shaw passed through a fog bank, and felt a growing sense of unease. He was so high. And the drop was, well. Forever. He could hear himself swallow dryly over the roaring of the waterfall, and his movements became jerky and uncertain. He gripped the sides of the thing tightly, until his knuckles were white with tension. [total: 44]

Shaw continued to try to aim the thing at one of the islands. He couldn't screw up now; the consequences of failure were too dire. Why had he thought this would be a good idea? [total: 95]

Shaw hit another fog bank - and heard something. A voice. He couldn't make out the words, but the intent was clear. A higher power, whispering to him. He felt his stomach settle, and his mind cleared. Peace. Yes. Everything would be alright. He felt a sudden surge of confidence -this wasn't so hard. Besides, someone was looking out for him. And then he was over the edge. Shaw sucked in his breath, tense. The gusts were wanton here - perhaps because of the fog, or maybe there really was land somewhere far, far below? Either way, it made it increasingly difficult to fly. He peered into the distance, desperately focusing on that far away light... [unlocked: 10]

The air was thinner here, and his glider dipped and dived, and then would suddenly be pushed up again by the uncertain winds. It was dizzying, and Shaw found it increasingly difficult to keep his bearings. [unlocked: 10]

With a laugh that was very nearly a sob, Shaw let out the breath he'd been holding. He crawled out of the glider and stood on wobbly legs, rolling his shoulders and trying to relax. He'd made it, for whatever it was worth, and his award lay before him. The shrine here seemed somehow more worn than the rest - perhaps because of the winds and it's remote location - and it was dotted with birds he didn't quite recognize. His eyes, however, inexorably turned to the glow of the blessings nestled amongst them. He selected one, and as his fingers brushed its surface he gasped at its warmth. He closed his eyes, and then - He was back on the cliff next to the hut, clutching the blessing to his chest.
