She shouldn't have just been sitting there, she knew that. Thane was hissing sharply, calling her weak, insufficient, soft, and a myriad of others insults that were raised in both common and draconic. Stormy just stared at her weapon like it might bite her if she picked it up again. Or burn her, as the situation called for.
She embarrassingly made a startled yelp when someone touched her shoulder, and the trainee's eye were wide with fear when she turned to see a student looming over her - or at least she didn't see a weapon anywhere, just a skull pin. But for some reason the girl wasn't attacking her - in fact, Stormy felt a lot less tired once her hand was removed. She just blinked with confusion, tense until the redhead skipped away to another Hunter and the others found her.
Shame. Humiliation. She just wanted to pull her hood up and curl up on the ground until everything stopped. But they were insistent in yanking her up and eventually Stormy had to find her legs again. Trembling, several tears already making their way down her face, and stiff - but up.
Stormy just nodded numbly at the Death hunter's question about charges, demurely passing Sasha a look in place of her squeaking apologies; her mouth didn't want to work right now. Hesitating, she picked the greatsword back up and wiped at her face with a sleeve as quick as she could.
Find your balls. God, she never had any to begin with before signing up.
Vision cleared and target set, she set her sights for the figure in the vortex and lurched forward in hopes that the more they hit it, the faster they could get out of this nightmare. Unfortunately the fog somehow delineated her from her target and her sword sliced against a Hunter instead.
"Ohgodohgod - " Nothing more came out before it was interrupted by a yelp as someone shot her.
Ariane would have received an almost shy look when she had been tending to her companion. She understood their reasons for being on the offensive, even if she was aiding them. After arriving to see what had happened to their base and their people.. She felt sick just thinking about it. In any case, she left the two be to return to her own kind, and see to Gene's safety. With luck, they would all make it out of this mess.
Mei continued to almost pet the ghoul, in order to comfort her. Poor thing.. this whole time she had been infected with those shards. If she had known.. maybe she could have done something to help her.
Not seeing the blond hunter approach, Mei was almost startled when someone reached out and grabbed at her shoulder, gently turning her to face whoever it was. With relief, she found that it was not only a friendly face, but Gale on top of that. "Gale! I was wondering if I'd be able to find you here! Er.. but I guess you found me first." Her gaze flickered over to the hunter she had aided and then back to him again, before glancing off to the side. "I.. might have boosted her shields a bit.. Though I can't say that I've made a lot of friends among my kind and the horsemen today." She gave a mischievous grin, shrugging slightly.
"I'm sorry, about what has happened to your people. We had come to kind of.. eavesdrop on the horsemen, but didn't expect anything like this to happen. If I could have.. I should have helped sooner."
Realizing that Gene and Tybalt were still there, she turned her attention to them, patting Gale lightly on his shoulder while introducing him. "This is Gale. He's a hunter, obviously, but he's a good man. He's the one I was talking about, Tybalt." Though, she wasn't quite sure on how the black dog would react. She knew how he felt about hunters, and she didn't think he would be easily swayed.
"Er.. by the way, Gale. What happened to your arm?" She asked, swatting the elf that still hung around the hunter boil with the back of her hand.

Something was wrong. Beyond the fact that she could still feel the hum of power flowing through her, there was something else--something inside her that suddenly felt just a little emptier, as if the crown had taken something away. She wasn't sure what it was, but...
Squeezing her eyes shut, she took a deep breath as she considered her next move. After what had just happened--what she just did--she was too shaken to get close to any of her friends, just in case the next time she snapped out of it, she had her fingers wrapped around their necks instead of a hunter's. While she was certain that she would dwell on this matter extensively later on, right now, there was a figure that they had to take out. For the sake of making sure her friends got out of this safely, of course.
And to test your new power on, A part of her mind hissed. Despite herself, Xiu could feel her heartbeat pick up, not in fear, but in excitement. Mixed with her confusion and guilt, the sudden surge of hungry excitement was a strange and uncomfortable feeling.
And as she lunged forward and swung her leg out, she felt a great sense of satisfaction as the attack landed solidly on the target, a shiver of delight running up her spine. She aimed another punch, and then moved backwards and back to a safer distance.
Xiu stared down at her hands. Jack, that had felt...powerful.
Not even a moment after she stepped out into the field, she realized something was horribly wrong.
Friend was turning on friend, but oddly enough all seemed to be aiming for the same goal? The attacks were sometimes even flying over head, and hitting someone that was further away from them. Almost as if the attacks had a mind of their own?
One such attack was just aimed at her, hitting home on her shield and making is sizzle a little more.
Upon reflex she decided it would be best to go on the defensive, holding Takeru up as a shield.
And even that clarity began to leave him as the distortion crystal darkened further. Too much pent-up fear. Too much corruption. The pressures, the outside influences, entangled and crushed him from the inside out until only the rage and the bloodlust remained in his bones.
The battlefield was orange and green and he hated them he hated them all they wouldn't stop him they wouldn't take his crown revenge would be his here now right now he would kill them first all of them the hunters first the hunters now -
The fire in his eyes had never been brighter. Near him, a movement, a human. She was white and gold, and then she was many colors, and she would die for him. His claws sliced through Ceres's defenses as if they never even existed.

"Ami, you don't have to apologize. Really." Smiling, she patted her on the arm once again before bringing it back to try and rub some heat into her own arms.
The not too distant call from Lex reached both her and Ami, as he warned them to cover their ears. With almost not time to react, she started to bring her hands up, when Ami quickly covered them for her. The shot was loud, loud enough that she could still hear it, even with Ami's help. Wincing, she looked to Ami, who had no protection over her own ears. "S-sorry."
Watching, Kat cringed as Wash's shield collided with Lex, which resulted in Ami throwing him the bandages. She couldn't tell how the battle was going, but things looked grim..

This just wasn't Stormy's day. If they make it out alive, Ariane would show the trainee the therapeutic wonders of a man's firm butt. Or something - anything - to help the poor thing settle in better.
"Concentrate!" She yelled, frowning, "Yell out BALLS it might make you feel better!" Hey, it worked for Bix back in the day!
"Gale?" Her eyes widened as she went silent for a few seconds, staring at the hunter standing with the Halloween students; she had to stare for several seconds just to make sure that she wasn't seeing things. What was even weirder was the fact that he seemed to be pretty chummy with them... Or at least with one of them - the girl who repaired Stormy's Fear shield.
Since a battlefield was no place for a serious talk, she decided to just give Gale a look that said 'wow you better tell me everything later, young man'. She might also had thrown her hands in the air, almost like she was flipping an invisible table. She would attack again, but attacking made her susceptible to being dragged closer to the vortex, and there was no way to get rid of the stupid elf...

He felt his attack hit, and then he started to feel a all to familiar effect. Unfortunately, the distortion was a double edged sword. Sure it was lovely to do more damage, but if they gained too much power within... it caused effects to start.
Remi could feel himself growing irrationally angry.
It was starting in his stomach, a small flicker. It was enough to signal to him he needed to watch his back, needed to be careful. he had not gone past a certain point before, but he knew someday it would happen. That thought scared him enough to pause.

In spite of the hat and gloves that Kostya bestowed to her in his moment of foresight and kindness, Mimsy was not taking this cold very well. Moving anywhere seemed to take much, much longer than it usually did, and her joints were beginning to ache from the chill. But she was here for a reason, and she had no intention of ending up like any of the fallen back there.
There was chaos in the distance, if she could ever make it there, through the snow and shouts and faint ringing of something. As she got closer, she registered brief glimpses of something grey and foggy and vaguely humanoid above their heads - the eye of the swirling storm of combat.
Exhaling through chattering teeth, she pulled her scarf over her nose and pushed onward.

It was awful how no matter what Stormy did, she seemed to be getting closer to the smiling figure and its three crowns. Her eyes kept straying to them, a longing stirring in her. Most of the emotions now overwhelming her were of sadness, as if her depression had decided to go into hypermode - she wouldn't have been so surprised if she was literally blue-colored at this point.
So it wasn't so hard for the fog to trick her again, for the trainee to be blinded by more tears as she swung her sword and struck another hunter.
"BALLS!"

Mimsy probably heard her sob an apology before Stormy backed the hell away to wipe at her face.
It was a blessing, really, that she had decided to defend and not attack..... really because the fact a raging dragon just slashed through her defenses like butter?
Oh yeah, she was feeling RATHER pathetic.
Backing away she narrowed her eyes, and made a point to kick a elf in defiance before holding up her sword as a shield once more. She was no help to anyone at the moment, but if she died again she would be even LESS help.
The cold and snow were stinging at the corners of Mimsy's eyes so badly that they blurred her vision, despite the bit of protection that her glasses provided. She missed the midwest for the first time in her life. She thought about skipping lab work for a few days while she warmed herself beneath a stack of blankets.
Just when she swung Svensyl towards foggy entity, she felt a weapon clip her arm. Had someone given those little elflike things firepower?! She winced and turned to retaliate, seeing only a miserably sobbing hunter retreating...towards the fog?
Why would she do that?
There was a lot of pushing and shuffling about, and now that she could really get a grasp of things, most of them did seem to be progressing inward. An odd phenomenon. She squinted, trying to get a better idea of their enemy, seeing only flashes of something that looked like a grey-washed girl.
