"You're not? Well then, I need you eating more meat. Ham and steak will help you gain weight." Mandi replied. She noticed the girl's appathetic (sp?) tone. "And," she added sternly, "You'll be checking in with me once a month." She hoped that would get Lilly's attention. She didn't know how else to get her to care. "You'll also be keeping a food log." She pulled out one of the charts. "You will need someone to sign off on every major meal." She said, pointing to an initials collumn. "And here," She said, pointing to another column, "You'll write what exercising you've done throughout the day. Maybe this is treating you like a baby, but if you do well this month, we can be nicer next month." She also knew what would happen if Lilly didn't do well: They would be forced to keep her in the hospital to regulate her eating habbits. If she refused to eat at the hospital, they would have no choice but to force feed her. Mandi did not want that to happen.

"... I don't eat breakfast or dinner around anyone, So Can I just sign it myself?" She asked knowing that she would end up just skipping them. When she was at home she barely eat, her parents were almost never home so they would not be around to sign anything for her. "And what happens if I don't check in with you?" She had to know otherwise she would have no reason to do any of this.

John wanted to stay out of all of this, he didn't know what to do but just stand there and look out the window. He took his hands out of his pocket and opened up the window a little, a small almost like a whisper of a breeze blew through the crack and blew his hair around a little. John smiled, the wind seemed to be one of the least complicated things right now.

"Well, start eating around people. If not Breakfast and dinner, then munching at school." Mandi sighed. "And there's nothing I can do if you don't check in. But, you need to get out of this habit of not eating, and it's going to be hard to do on your own. If you don't gain some weight fast, you are going to die." She hoped this would scare her, but knew it probably wouldn't. She pulled out the other charts. One was of the food pyramid, and another was a list of calories and carbs in certain foods. "These will help. I hope you use them." She put the charts on the 'nightstand'. "Do either of you have any questions for me?"

"If I don't eat anything starting right now... How long do I have before I die?" She asked mostly just curious. "Three days? a week?" She knew she wanted to stay alive, but she also did not want to gain any weight, her question was simply curiosity. "What if I drink water? will that increase my time left, compared to just eating and drinking nothing?" It was all a big science experiment to her, pushing the limits, and testing herself.

Mandi was seriously shocked by the question. She had never heard somebody ask this before. "Well," She said, speaking slowly, "The human body needs water, and will die within three days with none...But at the rate you're going, it would be a long, slow, and painful death. Your stomach will hurt constantly. You will become even more emaciated than you already are now. You'll become more tempermental, and you'll stop having your period, if you haven't already. Your breasts will shrink. You'll get headaches, and start blacking out. You'll loose your energy and concentration. You'll become frail. Your bones will break more easily, and your heart will become weak. Is that really what you want?"

"If I wanted to stay at this weight what would I have to do?" She asked "Because I don't want to gain any, but By the sound of it if I loose any more weight I will die." She smiled softly and thought about this. How much did they say I weigh right now?" She had stopped weighing herself a long time ago, it made her depressed so the broke the scale.

Mandi checked her charts. "86 pounds." She closed the sharts and sighed. "Lilly, you can't stay at this weight. It isn't healthy. You are a very beautiful girl, but being so skinny is dangerous. As it is, you're still going to be getting blackouts. It's bad for your bones and heart for you to be so skinny. Trust me, okay? I used to be really skinny too." She knew she was getting a bit personal there, but she didn't know how else to connect with this girl. "I'm not asking you to gain a lot of weight, just a few pounds. You'll feel so much better for it. Your energy will come back, and your bones won't be protruding everywhere." She really wanted this girl to listen to her.

"...Unless you lost weight to get your parent's attention while your one older brother was in a coma, and your two best friends you had decided that your hospitalization was no big deal so they when to the carnival while who bargaining with your subconches about whether or not to just end your sad life right there.... don't compare yourself to me. We are nothing alike." She had lashed out because she was scared. She didn't want to do what the woman wanted her to so she bit.

This hit a nerve for Mandi. "Fine! Don't eat! Kill yourself for all I care! It's your life, and your loss!" She practically yelled. This was very unprofessional, and she knew it, but she was just too angry and upset to care. She got up and quickly left the room in a manner that could be described as storming off. She didn't feel like fighting with that brat anymore. She walked down the hall, and started crying both out of frustration and bad memories. She went to a small storage closet and locked herself in to have a little time to calm down in private.
Lauri saw Mandi leave the room and start to cry further down the hall. Looks like things didn't go too well. She thought. She went and knocked on the closet door.
"WHAT?!?" Came from inside. "Mandi, honey, it's Lauri. C'mon, open the door." "NO! LEAVE ME ALONE!" "Mandi, I need some gloves." she lied, trying to get the door open. She was sure half the hall heard Mandi yelling. The door opened a bit, and a box of medical gloves slid out on the floor before the door was swiftly shut again. Lauri didn't hear the lock click back. "Look, I'm going to go talk to the brat you were just trying to help." She said to the closed door. "If you want to talk to me, you know my pager number." She scooped up the box of gloves and droped them off at the Nurses' Station on her way to Lilly's room.
She lightly knocked on the door, but didn't wait for a reply before walking in. "Lilly, are you okay?" She asked. This had high potential for getting nasty, but she was willing to deal with it. Mandi had put up with enough cr*p to be getting it from the usally sweet Lilly.

Liam nodded once to assure Beth that he had heard what she said. "Alright, then to McDonald's we go." he declared motioning for Beth to lead the way. Though he doubted he could stomach anything more than a few crackers he did not want to add to the drama that seemed to go out of its way to surround this group. "After you m' lady." he bowed.

She tugged him towards the McDonalds which seemed to be her place to slip to when something went wrong. "what do you wanna eat?"

John turned around to Lilly just as soon as she finished talking to mandi,"That was cold Lilly. You didn't need to make her feel like that." he said as he looked to her,"I only left because I wanted to get my mind off of how pissed off you were at me. I don't like when you're unhappy with me." John looked away as he reached Lilly's bed as he reached it.

Lilly felt cold, and dead inside, the words did not seem to hurt they just washed over her. She felt alone. and knew that if she acted the way she felt she would lose john's friendship. "Yes that was cold of me. I don't have an excuse and I don't think I can do anything to make it better." She tried to sound sincere but was failing. "But, I don't know that woman and she does not know me, so she should not act like she knows what I'm going though." She blinked and looked up at the nurse. "I'm just as okay as the last time you were here, can we take out the I.V. now?" She raised her wrist with the needle in it and sighed.

"Lilly, I don't know what happened, but Mandi is very upset." Lauri looked as serious as she felt (very). "Now, you are a very sweet girl, and I've allowed you a lot of privileges (sp?), but I won't have trouble in this hospital because of any patient of mine. If you don't start acting at least civil to people, I can't keep giving you the fredoms that I have been. You're too much of a risk. I understand that things are tough right now, and she probably struck a nerve in you, too. So, I'm going to try to get her to stop crying, and you are BOTH going to apologize to each other. Clear?" She asked a bit more gently. She didn't wait for a reply before walking out of the room and back to the closet.
"Mandi, honey, you in there?" She asked lightly tapping on the door. She heard a faint sniffling. She's calming down. That's good. "Mandi honey, come on out." The door opened and the brunette came out slowly and hugged the nurse. "Hey, it's okay. C'mon, we're going to go talk to Mrs. Lorring, okay? You both need to apologize." Mandi nodded in agreement and took a few calming breaths. Once she was calm, they walked to the room together. Lauri once again tapped on the door and nudged Mandi in ahead of her.
"Mandi, is there something you want to say to Mrs. Lorring?" even though Mandi was clearly more upset, having Lilly go first would make her feel isolated and punished. Both the doctors knew this.
"I'm sorry if I upset you Mrs. Lorring. You are right, I can't associate with your exact situation. I was just trying to help you. I hope that we can get past this for both of our sakes."
Lauri nodded, satisfied. "Lilly, is there something you want to say to Mandi?" She hoped the girl wouldn't use this as an opportunity to lash out again.
