allegoriest Whee~ First post~ I like planting things! Especially peppers. Right now I have ghosts, habaneros, arbol, jalapenos and others. I mostly think they're really cute. I dry them and hang them as decorations mostly and they help keep animals from everything else. I also like flowers, especially designer petunias right now, which I can't really afford, but hey. I also sew and make plushies and jewelry and paint and whatnot. Welcome to the guild! The designer petunias do get expensive. Have you tried starting these from seed? What sort of plushies do you make?

Hello, I'm Nyss. The closest I came to this kind of work when I was a child was my occasionally helping pick beans in my Grandpa's garden and being fortunate enough to own horses for a few years. Now I live in a tent and work on a permaculture site with my boyfriend, dog, cat, and 7-10 other people who are more-or-less my friends (community living has its challenges). 11-year-old-me would NOT have expected this would be where I would turn up. I found this guild because it was the only one that came up under a permaculture key word search, and it looks like quite the haven. THANKS FOR EXISTING!
I am currently assisting in a project to bring better sustainability to a small homestead. We're building an Earthship, a kitchen and herb garden, reclaiming an orchard, and taking care of some small livestock. We've built our own shelter, cooking prep table, and outdoor larder shelves, a solar shower, and compost toilets. Granted, we are in a very rural area, but I was raised out of fast food bags and pizza boxes and was distinguished in my family because I knew how to use the bus. If I can be doing this, so can anyone, anywhere, somehow.
My future pursuits are schooling for holistic landscape development, "eco-urbanism", and midwifery. My true passion is horses and has been since anyone can remember. I would like to one day own a sustainable cooperative hobby farm, combining my embryo dreams of horses with these new passions and skills that I am learning. Roughing it like this makes me confident that anyone can do something, which you've all heard before I'm sure. I know a lot of people that prepare for living in the woods, but believe me, until you actually do it understand that little things like turning off the light is something that you can do and it is doing something! There might be a day when you are thankful that's one of your "only" responsibilities.
I can't wait to meet all of you and read everything and pipe in every now and again!

I have a fiance from Austria and over there is so beautiful in a way where everythings organic and cheap and the non organic is expensive! What a life! Im planning on moving over there in a couple years because i would love to live in a place like that! I love cute things as well and sweets <3 still going after organic sweets ^^;; Also am an artist and plan to incorperate organic art style messages in my art in the future.

Hello, my name is Brenda although I prefer to be referred to as Rikku! I am a 19 year old female, soon to be 20 on the 24th of September!
I love sustainable living but I've only RECENTLY gained complete control over my living style in the last few months. After attending college for my first year I decided that I wasn't ready for another 4-year commitment to education and that I wanted to know what working to pay bills was like. So far I have seriously enjoyed my life as a waitress, and I live in a 3 bedroom apartment with my boyfriend and his roommate with my two pet rats Merry and Pippin.
Now that I am not living under my mother's roof, I have the freedom to make any lifestyle decisions I want to. That means I can HAVE a recycling bin AND an herb garden in my kitchen! scream TAKE THAT, MOTHER. rofl
Anyway, I hope to learn a lot from this guild and to make some friends!

So sorry about now welcoming you all sooner! Wow! I'd love to hear more about life living in a permaculture site. I'm glad to hear that organics has helped you. I too love organic sweets. A favourite is the gummy bears made from brown rice syrup. <3 I hope you had a wonderful birthday! I, too, took time off work and really enjoyed just living. Thank you all for posting and I'm very sorry that I have not welcomed you earlier. heart

The West Coast is the best coast. I'm on the opposite side of the country right now. I can see the Atlantic from a window down the hall. :/

Hello, I'm Amy, 28/F. I've been interested in "green living" for a few years now. I was so happy when I moved into my own place and could finally have my own garden! This past summer's turned out not as good as I'd hoped... my carrots and radishes didn't do too well, and my cucumbers and watermelons and tomatoes took over almost the entire plot... oh well, lessons learned for next time. I try to live my life making as little of an impact as I can. I try to avoid packaged anything; if I can't, then I reuse the packaging; if I can't do that, I recycle it (and anything compostable, I compost); and only if I can't do that do I throw it away. I live with one other person and we've managed to get our garbage output down to about one bag a month, sometimes less... I'm pretty proud of that. 3nodding

♥ Hello, my name is Aminah. I am almost nineteen-years-old and I have been interested in living organically since I visited my sister on a holiday five years ago. My sister has always been green and whilst visiting her I discovered my love for it. I travel back and forth between my partner and I's home to my parents, as I am my father's official carer when my mother is away working. It is something that I love doing which is why I plan on taking a course in caring next year. As for living organically, our home's backyard has many types of fruit trees surrounded by a large empty garden mostly full of irises that I am slowly filling up. I spend most of my free time out there. Right now, money is tight, but hopefully next year, I'll be able to buy compost and a few pots for a herb garden. We have no need to have a veggie-patch as my father-in-law has a few acres cluttered with many vegetables each season. I also enjoy many crafty hobbies such as writing, up-cycling, cooking and baking and sewing. I'd really love to meet people with similar interests and learn from them.

I'm a 25 year old Heating Ventilation & Air Conditioning Technician (currently unemployed cry )
I'm almost always opposed to environmentalism so I joined this guild to find out what makes you guys tick. Friendships with people who agree with me bore me, so I make sure to always be part of at least a few clubs celebrating stuff I've never loved before. It usually works out great, we're great friends just a few months in. It's my hobby. I'm here to listen not talk. I only want to respect you guys more.

A late welcome to the guild! Have you started up a garden this year? How is it going? Welcome! Sorry for the tardy reply. Did you get some herbs growing? I'm a big fan on irises, I have dozens myself and hope that they'll bloom this year. Welcome to the guild! I hope you find it very helpful. :3

Hey there~ My name is Danielle and I am currently 18 years old. I live on Oahu (Hawaii). mrgreen About six months ago, I became interested in gardening after coming across a Plant Biology booth at a CTE fair. The booth displayed a few native Hawaiian plants, a big sheet of 'did you know' facts, and a list of the various environmental careers that are available in the islands. My experience at the CTE fair inspired me to want to major in botany and to pursue a career in nature conservation. biggrin I am interested in volunteering at a botanical garden and helping out in the nurseries there. I prefer growing my plants from seeds and not seedlings. It gives me a greater sense of accomplishment when I watch them grow 3nodding
I'm looking forward to meeting new friends here in neonasence~ I know that I'll learn a lot from them yum_puddi yum_strawberry

Hi! Welcome to the guild. :3 Hawaii! Sounds like an amazing place to live. Haven't been there myself, but have vacation plans to be there sometime in the near future. Seeds are addictive. I have two shoe boxes filled with seeds as I like to grow them from scratch too.

Oof! It's been a while since I've been on Gaia, and my interests have changed significantly since the last time I was active on this site. I was so happy to find your guild, I can't find any other forums or guilds like it! I've picked up container gardening in the past year or so, and it's definitely taking a permanent place in my life. Mostly foliage plants, no flowers or vegetables yet. I'm working my way towards a job at a home and garden center or a nursery to get my career going.
I'm 21, live in Washington (the state), Plant Hardiness Zone 8b. I work as a full-time closing manager at the local fast food chain. I would like to own my own nursery, and a lot of my time is taken up by learning as much as I can about plants and gardening.
