Zac had to think about this. Was she a free woman? Well technically yes, but most of the time it didn't feel like it. At least not lately. Normally she could go where she pleased and no one would say anything. More often then not no one even knew when she was or wasn't around.

Well technically yes I can do what I want. Or so my father would have me believe. To be honest most of the time my father doesn't even notice when I'm there or not. Especially now that he has......David.

Upon hearing about running away from a marriage, Zac looked at him in surprise, before her shock turned to frantic laughter. Had it ben that obvious, the knowledge so plain on her face. She followed ben out to the tavern as she continued to laugh, tears forming at the corners of her eyes, before she finlly calmed down enough to speak.

Is it that easy to see? Well I guess I should explain some. I didn't run away from a marriage exactly. But apparently my father feels that David and I should.....have an arrangement of sorts. See my father is very taken with David, and wants him to run his company when he finally retires..or dies. Yet he wants to keep it in the family and as I'm his only daughter he feels I should marry David to make this possible.

However, there is no love between David and I, and I refused, when my father explained it to me. David barely even notices I exist. We've said maybe 10 words to each other the whole five years he's been at my father's company.

Her father had probably thought about that, but most likely didn't care. Her father was only concerned about one thing his busines, and he'd so whatever was necessary to see that it continued to succeed.

Let me tell you something about my father. My father loves his company more then anything in the world, including me. The company is his baby, I was just extra. So my father feels that he can make or get anyone to do what he wants. He probably feels David loves the company as much as he does so will likely go along with the matter. I can't say for sure, as like I said we don't really talk, but from what I hear, he's pretty dedicated to my father, for which I am greatful...if not a little jealous.

She sighed now. It would be nice to not have David looming over her, but having him sent away would do neither of them any good. She'd hate to be him when he came back without her.

No that won't be necessary, let him stay. So far he hasn't really disturbed anyone.

Maybe my father thought I'd love his company enough to follow through with his plan. Or maybe for some unknown reason he thought I might be attracted to David.

She sneered at the thought, and looked back towards the direction of the car.

Apparently some women find him rather attractive.

Hmm...ok...I will let him stay if that's what you want. But he better at least buy something for using my lawn as a garage.

Ben slowly inhales on his smoke as he listens to the discussion at hand. He watched more of what Zac's body language said rather than what her words said. She seemed almost anxious as if she hoped for a change.

You aren't his baby? That is one of the worst things for a parent to do...goodness knows that my father always kept work and life as separate as he could, life is more than money...time was never money. But I suppose he feels like failing his company would fail the only dream he had left...it is sad when people strive to attain something they can't ever live up to...

He gently pats your shoulder and smiles in a comforting way.

As long as you don't want to try and "MAKE" yourself love David so that your dad will love you, you should be fine. I don't have a family yet but I would never wish anything like that upon my kids. If I don't show them I love them with everything I have then I have failed as a father...they shouldn't need others to be loved by me. Geez...sorry about that...didn't mean to ramble.

I'm surprised, he hasn't come in since the other night. Perhaps he waiting, hoping I'll change my mind, but I still don't get why dad sent David? Oh well...I guess I could ask.

She laughed at this knowing she wasn't likely to. She started to feel something at the pit of her stomach as ben continued to talk. She wish her father could have felt the same.

I think my father really loved my mother. They made the company what it is today. My grandfather started it, but they gave it a name, if you know what I mean. When my mom died, and I was all that was left. I guess he felt it was easier to care about something that...didn't..really...need it. People can be so complicated you know, but a business...well that's easy. It doesn't talk back...you know?

She sat down in a chair and played with the lines in her hand as she looked at her feet, trying not to get to down about it all.

Oh, it's alright, you're not rambling. I don't think I'm capable of loving David, or anyone for that matter. I just feel so cold towards people, almost empty of any loving emotion.

She looked at Ben now, her eyes full of sorrow, wondering what he was thinking.

At this point, Ben isn't really sure what to say, he knew that people didn't have as cheery of a life point of view as he had lately. But anything beyond simple compassion might come across wrong so he chose to not delve deeper.

Hmmm...I guess you could be a tool for David to get the company...seems like something out of a famous crime drama. Not everyone finds it easy to open up it seems...but it is good that you care for your father but if you won't think it is love, it probably isn't. You'll know what love is when you feel it.

Ben made sure to accentuate when rather than say the word "if" stories like Zac's are ones he heard many times growing up and although he hated to hear people feeling the way they did, talking against it was never something that worked in his favor.

Ben watches as the man strolls in and approaches the two, judging by what he has heard, this seemed to be David. The way he carried himself made Ben rather angry. Why was it that people who made lots of money thought they were important enough to interrupt.

He turned to face the man and seemed rather resolute.

Pardon me sir, but it is rather rude to interrupt someone when they are talking! You already interrupted so obviously there's no preventing that but I believe that Zac should make the call as to whether or not we are interrupted.
