I heard that Gemeinhardt flutes have a tendency to brake easily.

who told you that? i have 2 gemeineheardts my old one i rented was at least 7 years old and he told me it had never been in the shop and i never had a problem with it (it sounded great for a student flute!) and my new student flute and my conseravtory flute is amazing. my stand partner has a yamaha and it breaks ALL the time.

Well I guess that all depends on the flute, not the brand. But I heard that about Gemeinhardt flute from many different flautists.

Yay for flute! I have a question though. I'm just starting flute and I'm having some trouble getting notes to come out. I think I'm blowing over it properly, but usually i only get wind unless I'm blowing really hard. Can Anyone give me some advice?

I'm not sure if this will help, but when I first started playing my teacher told me to cover the hole of the head piece and try and create a full sound just by blowing in to there. It helped me a lot.

Horray, Flutes. :]
Symphonic Band is such a pain. Too many snots there. It's funny that the flute section is the best out of all the instruments in our class xD. Except the Percussion-but thats different >_<

Guys, I love twirling my flute.
It's getting to be unhealthy, I swear. xD

I twirl it constantly. Like, *constantly*. I'm really fidgety when I stand, so twirling helps.
But then, the two guys I'm set between get mad when I keep hitting myself and interrupting their conversations.
So we were having a twirl off or something the other day, and one of them got his flute caught on his sleeve while he was twirling it, and it flew over and whacked my foot.
So now I have a giant ugly bruise. And... yeah. x)

Also, I love piccolos. I'd play one if it was twirlable. cool

I've never tried twirling my flute.
I don't want to drop it. >.<
If I tried I probably would.

I twirl my fulte all the time! I once hit someone in the eye with my flute when I was putting it to my mouth. redface

What I love most about playing flute is that I can scare people by playing high F! biggrin

ah the flute...my first instrument of many. I started in the 6th grade, a year later then everyone else and I went straight to advanced band. I then wanted more of music so my friend let me borrow her clarinet for awhile. 7th grade my good friend and I stayed 1st and 2nd chair (me 2nd) out of 9 flutes the whole year. 8th grade I wanted in Jazz band, so I picked up the trombone. Then a little after that I played my friends trumpet for a few weeks....I was afraid of losing my embessure so I asked my band teacher for a woodwind...so she put me on Alto Sax...then a few days later I got out of math class to learn bass guitar. Then my teacher switched me to Baritone sax. I was also in colorgaurd in the 8th grade YAY SWING FLAG! So my ninth grade year was...1st semester Flute, Jazz band Baritone sax/Alto sax/Bass guitar (our last concert I had a jazz solo on all three but on different songs sweatdrop ) Then 10th grade I did flute for marching band and for concert band and bass guitar for Jazz band.

So leading up to the now...marching band baritone sax....jazz band baritone sax....first day of concert band flute/piano.....and now in concert my BD switched me to oboe sweatdrop
