Prompt:
Quote:

With new races appearing at what appears to be on a somewhat regular basis, the topic of cultural assimilation has been a popular one. Should new races assimilate to match the rest of the world if their beliefs are drastically different? Is it possible to have people exist in harmony even with clashing belief systems? Your student is encouraged to use examples in their response.

Write a 100 word minimum response from the perspective of your student answering Tethys' questions

Prompt Response:
Wade had a bored expression on his face as the hybrid's tail flicked lazily the tip flipping from one side to the other on the ground. The youngest was only half paying attention. Why was school such a bore? He sat up a little, knowing if he didn't pass all his classes it would result in being held back. Which meant MORE time being here...and less time perusing their future dreams.

"I do believe it's important new races learn about their new environment. If they don't it will make transitioning to life in a new place difficult. They don't have to change or anything, but they should have someone there with them to help as a guide to make the transition period easier maybe...but we should all respect not everyone's the same and are different too, which is okay."

Prompt Response:
Agave flipped through their textbook, wanting sources for their response. Of course it was feasible to exist in harmony with differing belief systems. Albeit a sketchy sort of harmony. One simply had to look at the geists and baphomets for just such an example. Baphomets had been against working with them for their acts during the war and their thieving ways, but they had accepted their help and reciprocated it when faced with Above's attacks. Nowadays most races got along with one another, working to rebuild after the war. Even with the differences in culture and traditions, they all still found a way to see eye to eye. Why the 'new' races should be forced to destroy their own cultures and beliefs to fit in with the rest of the world was simply for the rest of the worlds' benefit. They had their own way of doing things that was working for them just fine. As long as nobody was harmed while they did it, Agave couldn't see any reason for the idea to even be propositioned to them. As soon as Agave found some good sources and quotes for this paper, they'd be finished in no time.

Prompt Response:
It took Tethys twice to get Soren to realize the question had been directed at them. They pulled their wings further into their body amidst muffled laughter from the rest of the class, giving the teacher an apologetic look. Then they took a few moments to really think about the question. Should they assimilate? How would they feel if someone came to them and told them they couldn't believe what they'd always believed in just because they started living somewhere new? It was a puzzle and deserved some thought.

Unfortunately, they were expected to speak, and soon, if Tethys expression was anything to go by. Clearing their throat, they shuffled their book around a bit before standing.

"If someone was to tell me that all the chimera had to stop believing in our gods just because we had different beliefs, I would laugh in their faces. Just because something exists that doesn't believe in what you think to be doesn't make their beliefs any less valid. That would be like if someone was teaching freshlings they couldn't learn any of the magic that their race uses because they're in a demon-run school. It wouldn't make any sense.

"If all of us can just learn a bit of tolerance for one another, I don't see why we shouldn't be able to live in harmony. As it is, we already do a lot of that with all the differences in each race's cultures."
Not sure what more they could say, Soren nodded and sat down, sighing with relief to have it over with. Now they could go back to thinking of which paint they needed to pick up after school to finish their newest painting.

Nightmare/Daydream: Hikito Kanti
Prompt:

Tethys has been talking about "daily rituals" from various cultures with the students. What is one of your student's daily rituals? Do they recognize that it's a ritual? If they don't think they have any daily rituals, have them explain why.

Write a 100 word minimum response from the perspective of your student answering Tethys' question

Prompt Response:
Hikito couldn't think of any daily rituals he had. He came to school every day, but that was all he could think of really. His days were all so different otherwise. Some days he woke himself up, way way earlier than the caretaker would have woken him and others he was up at the very last second. Most of the time he had breakfast, but not always. Just like sometimes he stuck around after class to play more on the playground and sometimes he went to the garden or the library. Every day was so different, how could he have any sort of daily rituals aside from the ones that everybody did. Getting up, going to school, and going to sleep weren't really a ritual. You had to do 'em. Since he didn't really have a ritual. . maybe he could come up with one? It kinda sounded like fun anyway. He would just have to think of something good for it.

Prompt Response:
Kanda listened with interest as Tethys talked about daily rituals. It never would have occurred to her on her own, but she did have a bunch of daily rituals. In fact, she was even making new ones all the time! Her father woke her up every day, though recently he'd told her that soon he'd get her an alarm clock and she would have to get up on her own, and they had breakfast together. Sometimes they had to eat it faster than others because they were running late, but Vusala tried to make sure they always ate it together. Then, she came to school and took her classes. After school, she had music lessons and then she waited by the doors for her papa to come pick her up. And just the other day she'd decided to try painting a little bit every day too! Her friend Habushu had shown her some neat tricks and she wanted to paint him something as a thank you. Not to mention she had to take care of her familiars as best she could and then get ready for bed and a bedtime story and then sleep until the next day!

There were so many things that she did that were a daily ritual and she hadn't even realized she did them that often! Tails wagging, Kanda wrote down all of these things, expressing her amazement about it and her excitement that she'd learned something new today.

Prompt Response: Habushu tilted his head to one side, ears flicking around to hear sounds near him as he thought absently about what he considered a daily ritual. A few minutes later and he starts writing his response. He draws or paints every day. That’s a ritual to him now that his friend Jacie helped him out. He also felt like him taking a bath before bed every night was a ritual. He would go over homework with his babysitter at night after dinner, and he would listen to or read a story before falling asleep. Those were all rituals to him. He wasn’t sure if there were any other rituals in his house. A moment more of thinking and he realized that they had a family outing every weekend on Saturday. That was a ritual to them all. If it was ever missed he wasn’t sure if it would affect him, but who could judge something like that before actually experiencing it? He nodded and finished his paper with a flourish before setting his pencils down. All set.

Prompt Response:
Zoren listened to their teach explain today's lesson. Pursuing their lips, the young Baphomet tilted their head in a considering manner. What exactly did they mean by rituals? As it was explained in a different manner, the shadowy figure's eyes lit up in understanding. "Well, when I get up...I like to take a shower. Once I'm done..I brush my teeth and hair, as well as get dressed. I usually help make breakfast...I love oatmeal." They licked their lips. Hmmm...what else? They also help pack lunch, and make sure to grab my bag before school time! After school usually, they finished their homework, before being able to play, or watch tv. Jaime would read to them, and Nova would sometimes hang out too!

Prompt Response:
Gormain at first gave the teacher a weird expression, uncertain how to answer them. Rituals? Habits... he wasn't really sure how to answer that. Frowning the young Grimm's tail swished back and forth as he listened to a few other kids share. By the time it was his turn he had a fairly good idea in mind what kind of things he did on the regular. Gormain cleared his throat. "Well...if you don't wake up on time at my house you might not get shower time! So every night before bed, we all set our alarms. My siblings and I like to all read together before bed. Our Dad's and Mom also will join us. Dinner time is always a family thing since there is so many of us in our pack!" He beamed proudly. Gormain hadn't had a proper home until Drisden, Callahan and Lir took the boy in. Now he was surrounded by Grimms..and even a baphomet and a bakeneko who all made up their Alpha, Callahan's pack.

"We also go on walks together on the weekend to the local park." He added, feeling he was in the right to brag.

Prompt Response:
Natasha didn't mind other races. Her own boyfriend Juro was a hybrid, who would such a thing bother her? It was only natural for love to find its way across all races and beliefs. While everyone was different, she also, being of mixed heritage couldn't fathom the idea of someone finding it offensive. The reality was, that any other race might want to hang onto their ideas and beliefs. While it wasn't a requirement, she felt like it helps build relationships and make connections when relationships across different peoples could be agreed upon.

Raising a clawed paw, she waited to be called on before speaking her mind.

"I do believe both parties should come to a mutual agreement of some kind. A new race shouldn't have to wipe out who they are, however, that doesn't mean it wouldn't do us some good to learn about the newcomers." She smiled then. "Diversity is what makes this world so vast an interesting," Natasha added after a moment. "I think that is wonderful and should be celebrated." She felt confident, and it showed in her words as she addressed her teacher to relay her point of view once she'd been called on.

Prompt Response: Lalita stared at her assignment paper in dismay. She didn’t have a clue what a normal daily ritual should be, besides the everyday boring stuff like brushing your teeth, changing your clothes depending on time of day, eating each of your meals at the same time every day.... She shrugged her shoulders and started writing about those activities. She also supposed giving her mom a kiss on the cheek and a hug before bed each night could be considered a daily ritual. But nothing else was coming to mind for her and she struggled through her answer on her paper.
