Mel suddenly found it very difficult to breath, and gasped in air, a hand lifting to rest on her chest as she stared at the scattered items. Her gaze darted back to Lala. "Well it's NOT!" she choked out, her expression contorting into panic, "Lala where IS it!?" She tried not to let her eyes water up, but failing to blink for an extended period of time made that pretty difficult, and there was no way she was shutting her eyes. "Lala where is Z?" she demanded, her voice beginning to tear with emotion. She was overreacting, she knew that, and she took a deep breath and swallowed her fear, leveling her voice to forcefully reiterate herself. "Where is Z?" She couldn't fall apart. Especially not in front of Lala, of all people. But he.... had he... Had he lost the pokemon that she'd had since she was a teenager? One of her best, most closest friends....?
"I haven't been tall enough long enough to know! My neck feels like licorice though! It's bendy! See?" Con bent his neck all around, then swung it, before straightening. He wobbled, shook his head, then beamed down here. "I am a tree! My heads will fall off like fruit! / I'm not cake / I don't think I'm cake!" The other two faces looked a little uncomfortable, one more unsettled, the other uncertain, but Con, as always was beaming brightly. At least until Cheri confirmed the observation he'd had, at which point he bent his neck again, not as much, but enough to bring his head parallel to the ground, a few leaves falling onto Cheri from his main. "Did she drop her ice cream?" he wondered.

Lafayette bristled, immediately feeling as the tension in the air went from 1 to 100 in the matter of seconds. He could tell Mel was trying not to flip the hell out, but well… that hardly mattered with how quickly her pitch was changing. Unconsciously he raised up his one hand in defense, gaze narrowing on Mel as she repeatedly inquired where her pokemon was.
"Whoa now Mello, don’ go gettin’ tha’ shits on meh," he commented; it was meant to mean not to get angry but he really wasn’t considering his wording in this moment now was he? His hand dropped back down and slowly the Aussie began returning the things to the bag, still picking through as though he intended for it to just appear by magic. "I rold’ja… I dunno," he was going to sit there and say he did, "but I doubt he gone far. I know an’ put ‘is ball in meh bag an all," he sounded absolutely positive on this assertion and he’d stand by it. So… why wasn’t it here?
"Did leave mah stuff at the hotel there for a bit… maybe fell out there or somewhere?" He was mostly musing out loud to himself (which he didn’t seem to think twice about doing nor the company he was doing it in), but the expression on his face didn’t read as though he believed it. Still though, he maintained whatever level of calm (or stupid lack of concern) he had going, looking at Mel again. "Sure ‘eh ain’ far, gimme a tick an’ I’ll figure it out." He didn't seem to see a reason to panic about it. Z was a legendary after all right? What harm could happen? That was... his thinking at least.
"I see. It must be nice being so tall. You can reach the highest shelves. Or build a very tall tower; you should help me build a tall tower. I did it once on a bed but it was not very tall." Cheri blinked and watched as Con wobbled to and fro like a noodle, seeming for the briefest moments like she was in awe over this simple display of maneuverability. "Maybe you should be noodles instead. A noodle cake? Or taffy. Taffy is bendy. You make me think of taffy." Her attention turned back to the trainers, just staring unflinching even as the leaves fell on her and even attached to the remains of her ice cream.
"No but I think the dumb one did. She is very upset. He’s in trouble."

Mel narrowed her eyes, which glistened just a bit more than normal, at Lala's turn of phrase. She couldn't tell if that was more akin to "Don't bull s**t me, this isn't my fault" or "Calm down", but she didn't appreciate it either way. Her hands balled into fists, and as he went back to packing up his things, she shoved herself up. "Right," she muttered, trying not to sound bitter as she looked around. She hadn't heard or seen anything drop, and neither Con nor Cheri had commented on them dropping anything, and they'd been behind them. Which means it was probably before here.... and hadn't he flown...?
She snapped back to look at him, eyes getting a little red from the persistent effort not to break down. "Or he got stolen? He's a legendary, Lala. I... Never put much thought into it," she lamented, running a hand back through her hair, "But he is. And legendaries get stolen, Lala. They get stolen, and captured, and used..." Her voice broke, and she closed her eyes, taking a deep breath, before dropping her hand, shaking her head, and looking around. "Sure," she muttered dryly, before grabbing one of her pokeballs, and throwing it, hard, at the ground. It didn't break -- somehow -- but it released Blue, and by the time the goldeen was turning in the air, about to head down, she had his fish bowl at the ready, and he was able to fill it with water before slipping in, and calmly turning to look at her from the corner of his gaze. "Help me look for Z's pokeball, Blue," she muttered, holding it close, "It's lost." It wasn't necessarily a jab at Lala, the way she said that -- in fact, her voice was low, and meant just for the fish -- but some bitterness did roll in. And worry. She doubted it was here -- what if he had dropped it over one of the oceans? -- but it was nice to have a familiar form in her arms, and it gave her something to do as she moved to start dully scanning the ground and surrounding area.
"I don't fit in buildings anymore~!" Conglomerate realized, and also informed Cheri. There was no way he could get inside any of them without being recalled into his pokeball, and even if he did, if he were released in there, he'd probably hit his head. Or squish people. Or both. He definitely was not a... domestic pokemon anymore. He leaned down to peer curiously at her suggestion of noodles, or a noodle cake, or maybe bendy, but didn't get a chance to respond before the matter of their trainers became too pressing. He looked over as Mel came over, looking distracted, and straightened up. She glanced at him once, then again, as if she hadn't seen him the first time, and it just occurred to her that he was still there. "Conglomerate, look for Z's pokeball. Lala can't find it in his bag," she urged, not even sparing a look at Cheri, before turning to resume her search. Lucy very quickly joined her, looking worried and concerned over what was bothering her trainer. Con looked back to Cheri with round eyes, evidently expecting her to explain what was going on, despite her presumably knowing as much as he did.

Lafayette stared hard at Mel and her reaction to his phrase, picking up that it hadn’t gone over well as much as his intention had been. He frowned as he did and took a moment to really consider her words. She was mad he could tell but… well it was a just a pokemon. Right? Sure, sure Z was a legendary which added more spice to him, but he could hardly figure out why that would make her any more worried. Legendaries were tough; they had bloody legends for a reason after all, right?
But then again as he considered it and saw the hurt and worry clearly etched on Mel’s face (as much as she tried to hide it) he couldn’t help but feel… bad. Sure, he’d pissed people off before in his life without a care in the world, especially when it came to pokemon but Mel was … nice. She was friendly and one of the few people he enjoyed being around all things considered. He could deal with someone like Juliean being mad at him; that b*****d could go suck a long one for all he cared. He was quiet at that point as his brain finally kicked into gear and realized the importance of the issue. It didn’t matter that he didn’t see a problem; Mel did and it would do him well to take her concern seriously. He winced a little even at the ‘it’s lost’ remark as Blue was summoned as he caught a wind of it even if he wasn’t meant too. Ouch.
Eventually he was on the last few items with no turn up of the Z’s ball. He was on the same wavelength that it more than likely wasn’t here at this point and so his storing away of his things had reduced to a bit of a crawl. Before the last few items Lafayette straight up stopped, staring hard at the ground before finally bringing himself to look up at Mel. "I’m… sorry Mello," he murmured, glancing down to the ground. He sounded a bit like a child scolded for doing wrong and admitting for once he was at fault. It was awkward for the Aussie honestly, but he didn’t particularly know what to say now. He’d thought back, but he couldn’t really recall a moment when he could’ve misplaced the thing.
Cheri watched the whole tragic spectacle, still licking at her ice cream as Mel commanded Con to join in the hunt for the missing pokeball. She didn’t say anything as other pokemon scuttled over to join, and even Lafayette's pokemon paused to look over from their training in confusion at the sudden rise in tension. Her head tilted just a bit to the side as she stared at the pair, taking another lick or two in silence before turning her attention to Con again. "You shouldn’t bother looking. You won’t find it. I can tell her that you shouldn’t look." The Espurr informed the tree and just like that turned to the trainers again to do so, "You won’t find it. You shouldn’t waste energy. You should eat the pop rocks instead. Are they good tasting? Do they go with ice cream?"

Mel continued looking around with a frown, clutching the fish bowl with her pokemon in it very tightly. She turned and glanced over when she heard Lala speak up again, and paused, her expression softening and her shoulders dropping slightly. She shifted her weight, gaze sliding away, before she shook her head, and adjusted Blue to run a hand back through her hair. "It's.... fine. It's fine. S'not like you meant to lose him or anythin'..." she sighed, "I just... wish I knew if he was at least on solid ground, y'know? Not... at the bottom of the ocean or somethin'. He can't exactly swim well..." Honestly, not knowing was what was killing her. He could be anywhere, with anyone, having anything done to him. She closed her eyes and took a deep, shaky breath, before walking over and offering him a hand up. "C'mon. Maybe you can... walk me back through where you've been, 'n we can figure out where it might be," she suggested.
Conglomerate turned his gaze to look over at his trainer, but turned an eager and happy look back to Cheri when she spoke up again. He blinked as she suggested he ignore his trainer's suggestion. While the heads conferred and determined their own takes on that, she actually addressed the humans, and he turned to look as Mel brought her attention back to Cheri and frowned. "It's not a waste, Cheri, 'n how do you know we won't find it?" she asked, blatantly ignoring her questions, and the suggestion for.... pop rocks? What the hell?

It didn’t feel fine and Lafayette, for all his short comings in understanding others, could tell that much. He couldn’t fault her wanting answers to where Z might be at but unfortunately, he didn’t have them. If he wasn’t in Lafayette’s bag with the rest of his stuff? Well. He cringed a little at the suggestion that he might be at the bottom of the ocean somewhere, frown growing more. Could that be a possibility? No, no he was certain he’d have noticed if something went dropping. Then again, he’d had that little spill. Maybe…? Once more he went back into attempting to think, glancing at the offered hand and frowning as he stayed in place. He didn’t really feel much like moving at the moment. "... Roigh’ …"
Cheri finished the last few licks of her ice cream, leaving only the cone to be consumed. She eyed this loss before turning her attention the trainers once more, noting the agitated retort from Mel. She stared at the pair a moment before tipping the cone to begin nibbling. "Logically it is though. You shouldn’t waste energy looking. It’s silly. I think food would be better instead." She stated affirmatively. Lafayette blinked and narrowed a gaze on the pink Espurr before shoving himself to his feet and marching over to her. He snatched the back of her neck and yoinked her into the air, clearly agitated with her antics. The cone fell from her grip in the process and to the ground.
"Tha’ ******** you talkin’ ‘bout sheila?" He semi-growled. Cheri’s gaze was directed to the fallen cone; if she could look disappointed she would’ve. The Aussie didn’t seem to care though and gave her a rough little shake to get her attention. "What. Do. You. Mean. Chero?" He’d throw her if he had too. Finally, she directed her attention up to him.
"The boy has it. He took it when your things scattered. I watched him do it. He didn’t offer anything. It was sad, I think he should have offered something. You owe me a cone. My cone fell" Lafayette blinked. The… boy…? Realization seemed to hit him, eyes growing wide as he lowered Cheri. "… Adda’?"

Mel gave him a bit of a look when he ignored the help up, but rolled her eyes and moved away. She stopped, though, at Cheri's interruption, frowning at her, and holding Blue's fishbowl close. What the hell was she talking about? She knew Cheri was odd, but was she really so sociopathic she had no concept of loyalty? She looked over at Lala as he seemed to catch onto something, and for once, she didn't interject at his rough handling of his pokemon. Instead, he walked over, looking at Cheri closely. She didn't even glance at the fallen cone-- or the fact that Con stared at it, before swooping down, snatching it off the ground, and promptly munching it, only to resume curiously watching the scene as he chewed.
Mel's focus remained on Lala and the espurr, however, and though she frowned as he shook her, she straightened some and hardened her stare. She wasn't sure she was really up for threatening the pokemon herself, but if she knew something....
She blinked in surprise. The.... boy? Wait, what? Ignoring the fact that Cheri always seemed to talk a little oddly, she was obviously missing something. She turned to look at Lala, confusion and upset on her face. Had someone... stolen Z? "What's she talking about, Lala?" she insisted, frown returning, and expression hardening. The idea that someone -- possibly a kid -- had stolen her pokemon... It was a mixed sort of response. At least she knew where he was, but that Lala hadn't even noticed...

Lafayette was silent in the moment, focus etched on his face as he played back the event from earlier that day. Honestly, it was still somewhat foggy with the drop in the water and the whole issue that occurred after that. But he knew at least exactly who Cheri was talking about. But really? Then again he probably should’ve known better.
Cheri likewise watched as Con gobbled up the remains of her fallen cone, gaze trailing on the odd looking tree pokemon the entire time before she was yanked up again to look at the Aussie at eye level. He’d gone from focused to point blank angry in the course of a minute.
"The boy? Addah? He took it?" The blonde’s tone was demanding in his questioning. Cheri just stared, unphased. "Yes. He took it. I watched him do it. You dropped all your things when you fell. You should learn to ride that dragon. You owe me a cone. I wasn’t finished. You are a dumb one." The Espurr rattled off. It didn’t entirely do her any favors though, as in one swift motion Lafayette had managed to throw her up and maneuver his grip to right around her neck. "And yeh watched’em do it sheila?! And yeh ********’ did nothin’?!" He hissed, giving her a bit of a shake. It was one thing to just think he’d lost Z, but to know that Cheri had witnessed it happen and done nothing made his blood boil. He had half a mind to choke the psychic. How back stabbingly scummy could you be?
Cheri took the whole thing in stride; even the shaking. She stared at the enraged Lafayette with that blank stare before a healthy sized rock chunk flew from the ground and smack dab into the side of his head. The force of the unexpected blow caught the Aussie off guard and he lost his grip, the Espurr dropping to the ground on her feet while he just smashed to the ground with a wince.
"You should learn your place." Cheri patted her fur back into place. Lafayette grudgingly sat himself up, nursing the fresh red mark to his temple and delivering a glare to the pink fuzzball. He’d kick her for all this later. For now, he had some explaining to do. With a grunt, he got back to his feet, swiping the dirt from his backside and wincing at the pain before turning his gaze to Mel. Oof. That was not a face he wanted to see.
"When we were headin’ ovah here, I got knocked off’a Dova," that wasn’t exactly the right term for what happened but in the end, did it matter? "I fell off in some watah and a kid bah tha’ name a Addah helped me with mah stuff. Didn’ think he was the stealin’ type… guess I wasn’ thinkin’ at all," which made everything all the more embarrassing to admit. He narrowed a look to Mel, his blood beginning to boil again. "I’ma kick his a** sheila, don’ worreh. Doubt he’s gotten fah with Z, can find him in a bloodeh minute." Well maybe not a minute, but he doubted that short kid had made much distance. Someone’s a** was getting kicked, he'd make sure of it.

Mel looked between the two, before her gaze again focused on Cheri, hardening as Lala started questioning her again, as if that would push the pokemon to reply. And perhaps she thought it would-- Mel still had some rather terrible misconceptions about Lala and his pokemon, after all. Nevertheless, Cheri seemed to deem it fine to answer, and Mel stepped back slightly as the information began to sink in. She gave a hard glare to the pokemon at her obvious nonchalance over the matter, and gritted against her own nature as Lala switched to a much more dangerous grasp on the pokemon, doing absolutely nothing, and feeling virtually no concern at the action. All she felt was anger, a cold, hurt anger, and she wasn't sure who it was at. Cheri, for letting this happen, for knowing this and saying nothing? Or Lala, for allowing this to occur, and go unnoticed this long? Or maybe Z, because she knew, she knew he had to have been aware of some of this. He was psychic, and he was strong.... Was it really even possible he could have been outright stolen, with Lala present, without the legendary allowing it...?
She stared hard at the ground as this circled in her head, hugging Blue's bowl so tight, it was a wonder it didn't start to crack. Her gaze only shot up at a fast movement, and she outright dropped the fishbowl in shock as she just caught sight of the rock hitting Lala, and him going down. Blue quickly slipped back into his bowl and bumped it to right it, refilling it with water, and sending a cool, almost condescending side look to Cheri, before circling around in the bowl. Mel, however, dropped to her knees in an instant, eyes wide, before she shot a terrible look at Cheri. "Think you ought to, Cheri," she snapped back, a hand hovering in indecision on touching Lala's shoulder. She frowned and looked back to the Aussie, easily rocking back onto her heels and standing up with a mixed expression of disapproval and concern as she looked down at him while he got himself back together.
She listened as he explained, and lowered her gaze, turning her head slightly away. Lala seemed.... upset. Which, honestly, was kind of a relief? It was nice to know he wasn't immune to emotions besides just anger and... not angry Lala. Sure, this was definitely bordering more on anger, but... He was taking responsibility, and he was explaining. After a moment, she sighed, and pulled out her communicator. "No, don't. At least you know his name, and... he's a kid. I'll inform the authorities in Alola, but if he was actually stolen, if someone took him... then Z probably has some awareness of the situation. He'll get back to me, or he'll get himself found by someone who can, if that's what he wants. Honestly... I'm just glad to hear he's with someone, even if they are a rubbish, pick-pocket, thieving, no-good, garbage of a child," she muttered, searching for the proper number. Finding it, she straightened and glanced over at her pokemon. "We might as well keep our training up... I doubt that kid'd stupid enough to stick around the area he stole Z from, anyway," she added dryly, dialing and calling the number to report the theft, and give what info she had on the culprit.

Cheri didn’t seem all that phased at the comment, simply staring at the two trainers with that standard stare before turning her attention elsewhere. She had done her part at this point and any further comments would do no one any good.
Lafayette, in the meantime, was brewing in his anger. His blood was boiling from the revelation, and even the new welt of pain forming on the side of his head wasn’t enough to deter his rage. He shot Cheri a nasty glare, which clearly translated to a level of hate that probably wasn’t seen in a man to a pokemon before. Disgusted wasn’t even the beginning of how he felt at her actions and she’d be shoved in a box for the rest of her years at this rate if he had his way.
He sighed and turned his attention back to Mel, trying hard to keep from looking directly at her. Upset was an understatement. The Aussie felt… well… what was the word? Guilty maybe about the whole thing as the rocky truth settled into place. Even as Mel expressed what sounded like… maybe a little hint of forgiveness for his act and that Z would possibly be okay if he was in the care of Adder he didn’t feel much better. "Yeh sure…," he grumbled at her response that he needn’t go and hunt the boy down. It didn’t really matter to him that it was a lkid; the snot had enough balls to steal from them so he ought to be able to handle a beating for the act too. At least, that was the flawed logic that he had.
Still though, Mel seemed to have her own plans on handling the situation and so the blonde just stood there, feeling like rubbish. He turned his attention to his pokemon, watching them absently as they battled the wild pokemon, even glancing at Mel’s at the same time. Really, the feeling wasn’t being kicked and his head snapped back to look at the young woman. "Who yeh callin’?" Lafayette asked absently, looking immediately uncomfortable at the situation, shifting in place a bit and still nursing the pain.

Mel kept a frequent glance to Lala, frowning a bit in concern. He could have had a concussion from that head injury. She looked away when he turned to her and asked his question, though, shifting her weight and instead look over to her pokemon, who, while most were still a bit distracted, seemed to e continue training for the most part. Only Kiwi was remaining focused on its mission of getting stronger. "The Alolan police. Need to make sure they know 'bout this and keep an eye out for that li'l brat," she replied back, frowning warily. She turned her attention to the phone as they answered, giving a quick run down of the situation, and then raising her gaze back to Lala.
It took a bit of translating and back and forth, but she was able to get a general description of the kid and what happened from the Aussie, and to the authorities, before she gave her contact information and hung up with a sigh. Frowning, she looked at Lala with restrained concern. Honestly, she was still upset about this whole situation, but given how it happened, she was at least a little less concerned. And it wasn't like even this could override her concern at decent blow to the head. "D'you need any ice for that, by the way?" she asked, gesturing at his head and stepping over, "Mind if I take a look?"

It was a bit of an uncomfortable moment to learn that Mel was calling the police and for a brief moment he thought for some reason he’d be finding officers on his backside for the entire incident. He gave a little sigh of relief though when Mel made it clear that it was the Alolan police (so not anyone he’d have to worry about while here) and it was just to report Adder. He wasn’t all that comfortable speaking to them though and gave Mel the necessary details to relay to the cops, so they could keep a look out for the boy. He felt his blood boiling again recalling it but did his best to just keep himself settled.
Still rubbing at the knot, Lafayette jerked up a bit in surprise at Mel’s inquiry. "Nah, nah… don’… don’ worreh Mello, ain’ nothin’." He gave her a grin, wincing just a little in the process. "I’ve had worse!" Because that was how you made people feel confident right? Still though, even he had to admit it was a bit hard to hide that he was aching and after gingerly rubbing at it once more gave a little sigh and a nod. "If yeh wan’ though, yeh can. Don’ think it’s as bad as it feels. Wouldn’t worreh bout the icin’. Thank ya though," he remarked, turning his head a bit so that she could have a look if she wanted, watching the pokemon for a bit as he did. "Yeh pokies are lookin’ pretteh strong. Who yeh taken up agains’ the lekkie gym anyways?"

Mel shifted her weight as she looked at him, though she looked less than reassured at his.... reassurance. "Oh yeah? Well, y'never know. Might be leadin' ya with some bleedin' in that brain of yours," she replied back, with a tiredly playful tone of voice. She moved over all the same. "Blue could probably Blizzard up somethin', though, or I'm sure another pokie could get ya some ice so you don' grow another head, though," she mused, reaching up to gently pull his head down a bit to get a better look. She brushed her fingers over the wound with a frown; it looked pretty bad, and she had a feeling it was more that Lala had a thick enough skull he didn't feel the pain, than there wasn't any actual damage. Then again, maybe that thick skull managed to protect whatever was inside it, too...
Sighing, she drew back, and started checking herself for a cloth or something. She at least wanted to see if she could... minimize the swelling, if he'd let her. She glanced up at the question, though, caught off guard. Honestly, she had no idea what he was talking about at first, not because of his accent, but because it was so far from where her thoughts were at. Finally she looked over, then shook her head, getting her senses back and pulling out a handkerchief. "Prolly Kiwi, Lucy as back up, at least, Blue, if I can, and maybe Conglomerate if he wants to, and I need the extra power," she admitted, sparing a glance to the clueless, joyful tree still grinning down at them and swaying his head about up above.

The Aussie tilted his head just enough to clear his hair from his view as he gave Mel a bit of a look at her attempted playful remark. Admittedly, the remark went over his head and for some reason, he didn’t quite understand the problem there. The brain got blood naturally right? So what was a little bleeding? Could it bleed? Why in the world was he thinking that hard about it in the first place?
"Yeh? Blue-o does a lot, don’ he?" He gave a bit of a silly grin, trying not to move too much as she took a look. "Think Noah know’s a icey move or somethin’... need ta check on tha’ kinda thing to be honest," it’d been a while since he’d really reviewed his team; he was just trying to get who he could strong at this point to pile drive through some of the gyms. It would be to his benefit to sit down and well… consider.

Mel hummed out confirmation to Lala's rhetorical question. As if to add additional affirmation, she moved over to Blue with the handkerchief, lowering it down, and looking over at Lala. She let it soak partially into the water, and Blue swam around, before moving towards the surface. A flurry of snow and ice started to sweep up in the bowl and threaten to billow out into a full on blizzard attack, but Mel drew back and he stopped the attack before it did. "You haven't been keeping track of his moves?" she asked casually, not a bit of judgement in her voice. After all, she couldn't really speak-- she certainly hadn't been tracking her pokemon's moves, especially not before she had needed them for battle. She moved over with the heavily chilled, slightly icy cloth, and gestured for Lala to lower his head again.
Folding the fabric and placing it to the reddening mark on his head, she quirked an eyebrow at his remark, a smirk quirking its way onto her face. "What, do you usually only use one?" she asked, mostly joking. He couldn't, right? That seemed too hard to do, at least for the upper gyms. Pokemon could only get so strong before they started to disobey, after all, right...? Making sure the handkerchief stayed on his head, either by keeping it there herself, or ensuring he held it, she looked up as his focus shifted to Conglomerate. "What, Con? Like I said, he's just an exeggcutor. Though... do think his typin' might've changed... Think I read somethin' like he's part dragon? Which is just bafflin' ta think about, really," she admitted, looking up at him, "He doesn't exactly have the same kind of presence most dragons have..." Con gave another low, guttural warble, still beaming down at them, either oblivious, or not caring -- or even appreciating -- that they were talking about him.
