She heard his voice, but it sounded all wrong. Her song cut short, and she turned - but there was still nothing there.
But she'd heard him..
"..Herryk?"
The hope in the question died the moment it had left her lips, and her heart squeezed painfully. Instead, all she heard was sickening laughter.
She turned away, and her song began again. Now, it was quieter. She was listening for the right voice, this time.

His head was swimming, panic gripping him once more. He... he needed to find the others. Someone to talk at him, to drown it out. The humming wasn't working. He stopped his trudging, glancing frantically back and forth and over his hunch, but all he saw was the endless sea of his own hideous face. It was not one ghouls gravitated to. They... they liked him well enough but... but none of them... none of them really *saw* him. Cared about him. Even Mistress only called upon him when she needed something built or tended to... which was what Igors were for. But never to... to just talk. To just share her feelings or concerns. To throw ideas at, to just... spend hours and hours doing nothing together and... That was what Barth was for. And Barth was gone. Everyone was gone. Maybe they... they had already made it... maybe they were waiting for him and he was just a slow, useless Igor after all...  Section: 3

An eerie, agonized yelp drifted towards him.

The music prompted the kelpie to hum and softly whisper a song to himself.
"We'll meet yet again, my loved fair one, when o'er us
The sky shall be bright, and the bower shall be green,
And the visions of life shall be lovely before us
As the sunshine of fall that sleeps o'er the scene.
The woodlands are sad when the green leaves are fading,

He continued with the tune, moving step by slow, dragging step.
