Um...has anyone here cosplayed Fay-chan before? 'Cuz I'm no good with sewing, as I'm sure I've already mentioned, and I have NO IDEA how I'm suppossed to make Fay's outfit (well, actually, just his shirt/dressy-thingy. I'm not gonna make his coats). I have an idea, but I know that if I just go on that with pics as references, my attempt at making Fay's shirt/dress will end in disaster.
Could someone give me some tips? Or a pattern?
Am I even allowed to ask for help like this? sweatdrop

WhitePhoenixRyoko Um...has anyone here cosplayed Fay-chan before? Could someone give me some tips? Or a pattern? Am I even allowed to ask for help like this? sweatdrop I'd try looking for a pattern of a chinese shirt and altering that, cause it fastens the same way as his shirt/coat thing does. You probably will want snaps or hook-and-eyes to keep if from flopping open (it just defies gravity in the anime), but you want to put those on the inside so you can't see them. You may even need to put a little extra patch of fabric on the inside of the top layer of fsabric so you can't see the snaps from the front, though that wouldn't be a problem with hook-and-eye, but snaps stay closed better... Alternatively, if you collect anime pins, you could just fasten it shut with those and look all decoratvie at the same time. 3nodding Anyhoo, after you have that, all you really have to do is make it longer and not forget the split in the back. You COULD do the blue trim with real fabric, but I suggest just getting blue bias tape. Course, that might be too thin... well, that's your call there. You can buy black theatre/opera gloves at alot of costume shops or theatre supply stores, and just wear a black shirt under the coat (unl;ess you have black pants that come up a good 3 or 4 inches above your belly button- eww), black pants, and black shoes... that ought to do it! Good luck, post again if you have any more questions.

WhitePhoenixRyoko Could someone give me some tips? Or a pattern? Alright, back from work. A good pattern to use would be McCall's # M4745 ($8.50) Its a civil war uniform pattern and I made some notes of what modifications to make for the 'b' shirt. It was very bvoring at work today. -Extend peice 1 bottom so that it is the same width as the top, making it a rectangle -tape pattern peice 1 and 3 together and cut them as one peice of fabric -extend peice 11 and 12 to about double its length (or however long to make reach the right length for you) -cut the length of peice 7 in half so that it reaches just above the elbow -ignore the buttons and button holes, useing hook&eyes instead. be sure to sew only the inside layer of fabric of peice 1+3 so that the thread doesn't show outside. -ignore peices 13, 14 and 8. using this pattern and not knowing either your size or how that would work with men sizes... I estimated that it would take about 4 yards of white adn 4 of blue, just to be safe. If useing Palencia $1.87 fabric, use 'skipper blue'. if Sheermist fabric, use 'anchor blue'. if Cotton Club, use 'BRT blue'. I don;t know what kind of fabric to use for the straps, but don;t use strapping. Strapping is a woven nylon and would just make the whole outfir look terrible. 3nodding ANyways, for making the straps ends, I suggest the following: Sew D-rings to end of straps and sew a hook on one ring only (per strap). Using Sculpy, or another hardening clay, mold the strap ends and secure some wire iinto the back of the clay. Let clay harden, then paint. Folk Art Metallic Inca Gold is a good color. Once dry, secure the ends to the d-rings by twisting the wire around the d-ring. Sew the end w/o the hook to the back of the shirt with a whip stich around the d-ring and attach an 'eye' to the front of the shirt where the strap ends. I think that should work. Pants can either be made or boughten and, as Jenx said, buy the gloves. Gloves are a major pain to make. heart Now then, I really must get to m y painting or I'll never get it to my dep[artment manager before she goes on maternity leave! *runs off to paint*

crying Minna-san, doomo arigato gozaimasu! *bows over and over* You have no idea how much you're helping a lowly sewing costume making-inept creature such as myself. eek I found a good pattern for a Chinese shirt...'cept I'd have to flip the little line trailing off the neck in the front...'cuz if I don't, the front will look all backwards... here here

WhitePhoenixRyoko crying Minna-san, doomo arigato gozaimasu! *bows over and over* You have no idea how much you're helping a lowly sewing costume making-inept creature such as myself. eek I found a good pattern for a Chinese shirt...'cept I'd have to flip the little line trailing off the neck in the front...'cuz if I don't, the front will look all backwards... here here But that wouldn;t work b/c not only is the 'flap' the wrong way and curves down instead of going straigth out, it is also fake. It's normal shirt with a mandrin collar and a strip of fabric covered by frogs. Also, that pattern requires a zipper and that would definately throw off the Fai-look. Do you not like the suggestions I made? The civil war shirt actually opens up and everything... Sorry if I'm sounding stubborn or something, but it took me about an hour of "zoneing" and "finessing the fabric" to figure everything out for you. Man, I can get depressed so easy... but I can see why you wouldn't want to use a pattern made for a guy. I don;t know how to convert from girl sizes to guy measurements. I don't use patterns much. Hmm... Its 12:50 am and I'm out of Dove chocolate... dang it! stressed

little_kitty_chan *clap clap clap clap clap* ....hey, ji-sama? do you want to tell me how i could make a hime costume? you know, from clow? *gives tamaki's puppy eyes from epi 14 of ouran host club* -sakura "Ji-SAMA"? sweatdrop I don;t know about that suffix... (know what I just noticed? take the first parts of my username, swap them, and you get my first name! only.. spelled different, but sounds right! Sorry, random thought there) The normal one? Anime style, right? Actually, I have one more costume that I wanted to do for Otakon (23 days away! ah!) and its the normal anime hime outfit. I have all of the material for it, I just gotta slap - i mean, lovingly sew - it all together and I'm done. The outfit is very simular to the Ch5 outfit (art for ch5 in manga with the headress and she's holding a bird) that I did for ANiZona, so it shouldn;t take me too long. Alright, for the shirt, I know this sounds stupid, but start with a big circle. Fold in half- right side in -, then stitch 2 triangles on the edge and cut out inside of sticthes (i.e., remove the fabric triangles and leave the stiches there). these are to seperate the bodice part and the sleeves. Be sure to leave enough room on both ends of the triangle for nice, big sleeves and a loose mid-drift. Cut along the folded part of the circle, starting in the center by cutting down about two inches, then along the fold going about five on both sides. This will vary as you will have to round out the cuts for your head and so that the fabric sits a few inches in from your shoulders. This sounds really stupid, but its the easiest way to make the shirt and you woun't have a shoulder seam. It really works, honest! Heres a few sketches, done in MS paint, to help explain what I just said - er - typed. I mean this hereKnow what? this could take a bit of explaining for the rest, so I'll continue this in PMs with you, okay? sweatdrop
