Mikhail and Kaito had also mounted up, as had two of the Home Guard, Triss and Dal. They were the ones who would be bringing the horses back to Tor Karad once the group embarked on their journey.
"Looks like we're all ready," Earendil nodded. "Off we go."
And off they went, all in a line, two by two. They started around the castle, heading towards the city.

Miyuki kept trying to look around her, she had never seen the city before. So it was interesting to her to see it and all the people. In the end Lin had to pull Miyuki onto her lap so she could get a better view.
"Look!"
There was just so much to look at.
"You've never seen so many people before have you?" Lin chuckled at the little girl.

Earendil chuckled and looked around as they passed down the street. Even though it was such an early hour, there were a good number of people out and about, already conducting business or on their way to do so.
"I would imagine that if it were much later, we would have to push through the crowds," he murmured, riding beside the cart. "Perhaps it's a good thing we left so early."

That would have been troublesome Lin thought as she nodded in agreement, "That would make it more difficult."
It was actually interesting to see everyone go about their business this early in the morning.
"Not to mention less time to travel on the first day," she added.

"Well, we will take a rest after lunch," Earendil commented off-handishly. "It will be the hottest then, and I don't know if it would be good to keep traveling with Miyuki then. Best for the horses, too."
They would be traveling along the river, so it wouldn't be too bad, but still it would add some miles to their trip.

Lin nodded, that made the most sense she thought.
"Mummi, look!" Miyuki pointed at something that had caught her eye as they passed by, "Where are they going?"

Earendil followed Miyuki's finger with his eyes and smiled. "Off to their shops," he told her warmly. "Time to open up, start getting customers ... we're going out, but business goes on as always."
He grinned at Lin. "Maybe we should stop at the S-W-E-E-T shop for some stores for the trip," he winked, spelling it out so that Miyuki wouldn't know what he was saying.

Lin laughed at that, she had to admit the idea had a lot of merit. Miyuki certainly would like such a thing.
"Maybe..." she agreed with a nod.
Kaito would like it too she was sure.
"What?" Miyuki didn't get it and ended up confused.

Earendil grinned, then chuckled. "Maybe I should stop by on my own. You all go on ahead, I'll catch up quickly."
Taking Miyuki into a sweet shop ... well, he could see her wanted to stay longer than they could afford. Kaito was definitely not going in.

The laughter continued, because this was true, "Alright then."
She knew that would probably be for the best.
"Don't go!" Miyuki seemed to be upset by this.

Earendil chuckled and reached over to ruffle Miyuki's hair. "Don't you worry, little one. I'll only be a few minutes, and then I'll be back with something special. All right?"
He pulled up his horse and turned around. "See you soon!" he called over his shoulder as he rode off.

"Where is ada going?" Miyuki pouted up at her mother.
"He's going to get something, just you wait," she patted Miyuki on the head.
To distract her, Lin pulled out a storybook to read instead.

Sure enough, less than ten minutes had passed before Earendil was back. They were almost through the city by then, but more people were coming into the streets and it was starting to be slower going.
"And here I am," he grinned, coming up behind the cart. "See, Miyuki? I wasn't gone too long."

"Ada!" Miyuki was happy to see him again.
She would have gotten up too if her Mummi hadn't been holding her down.
"Where did you go?"

"Just a little side trip to get us something for our long journey," he grinned at her. "Be good and I'll show you at lunch what I got, okay? How does that sound?"
He couldn't bring it out right away, they were going to need to stretch it for as long as they could and if she knew about it she would probably start asking for some.
