"Go on." she replied, leaning back in her chair. She occupied the simple chair as a queen would a throne, and the quill she twirled absentmindedly could have been a scepter. The enchantress looked capable, cold, and calculating before the boy.

"Well, Auntie I've been keeping tabs on any weird activities since his appearance," He began to pull out a folded piece of paper from a belt pouch."I found some pretty odd things; though maybe he wants us to find out about it."

He unfolded the paper to show a front cover of a newspaper, it's headline read: Whole Town gone!

"Now excuse me if I'm being paranoid, but it seems a little coincidental."

"Dead or simply vanished?" she asked, resting her head in her hands.

It was her fault, all her fault.

I will not have you begin another cycle of self-flagellation, Emma., came a low voice in her head.

"No, not your fault" He remarked as if reading her thoughts."Worse than those two, he's eating their souls; that's all he ever wants to do with a human, unless for manipulating them." He cleared his throat."The town's empty, no bodies, no trace, like they all stopped existing."

He sighed, and felt it ok to say a suspicion."I also think making enemies of many of the people around these parts, was not an arbitrary reason, nothing he does is."

"All humans?" she asked, a faint quiver in her voice.

She would kill to have Niccolo Machiavelli to advise her again...he always knew what to do.

"Well yes he's a very hateful creature," Farskon grumbled, his brow furrowing."His original plan was when the worlds merged, he would have sended his army of 4000 to cause a big controversy to eventually lead to another war."

"What he wants now is unknown, maybe it's the same, but I know he simply wanted to consume the souls of those residents to regain power."

Farskon shuddered, and said a little afraid."He even visions a world reclaimed by all the other sentient beings, and a land 'cleansed' humans."

"He shall touch none within these walls." There was bite in her words, a finality.

"And that is the usual reason, is it not?"

"Yeah that's true, and you're making me not want to leave this estate," Farskon shuddered."The vampire says I'm like him in a sense that we've got more lives than a cat."

The paladin now had a disturbed, and scared look from mention of Vaswedes.

"I will not force you out." Emma said in a tone that was an attempt at reassurance.

Power flared again from the floor above, a powerful warding that wove its way around the estate quickly and with great precision.

It had been a while since Nyrk set foot in Emma's library, but at last, this day, he had. "Emma?" There was no echo, Nyrk's voice muffled by the pages and covers of the tomes about him. "Emma. I have heard tale of another resident vampire. I would beseech you, inform me of this vampire, if you would?" Nyrk was clean and woundless, after weeks of study in solitude and lack of battle.

The Paladin was there. The look of understanding on his face concerned Nyrk. The exorcist's eyes snarled, his mouth bitten into an apprehensive line. Not to Emma, of course; Nyrk was always careful not to displace his anger.

Emma turned on her heel to face the Exorcist. "I know little of him, only that he considers my union with a human to be a perversion."

She turned back to Farkson. "Perhaps you could better explain."

"Vaswedes was a vampire who practiced in black magic, and was one of many government official for Darklings," Farskon began, and cleared his throat."The vampire had laid low until the twenty first century; where he predicted a paladin would ironically bring the worlds to merge in 2012."

Farskon's voice grew tense at the next part,"I was that Paladin, but I didn't do what he thought I would do. In a rage for something he did to me personally; I disintegrated him with the power of my soul."

"This vampire's different; he consumes souls, and that's why he was able to live," The Paladin grimaced."He's only at half power now, but he's just as threatening."

The inventor blinked and looked about, wondering if he had set his machine to the correct destination now. Much to his relief, he had. He looked over to Emma and immediately walked over to her, as though not noticing Farkson.

"Ah . . . excuse me, Fräulein? I`ve stumbled upon some things that might be of interest . . ."

Ernst searched through his bag and took out three crystals, which had earlier been attacking him and then opening a portal in his laboratory. There seemed to be an urgency about him as he took them out, carefully wrapped in cloth and put into a jar. He carefully handed them to her.

"I`ve examined them in my laboratory . . . They seem to open some sort of gateway when magic is introduced." The inventor coughed and sniffed from the cold. It was obviously a long and miserable travel from his home near the Black Forest. "But I am a man of science, and I`ve exhausted the possibilities. I think you`d be much more knowledgeable in handling them."

Emma jumped as Ernst made his entrance, her eyes widening at the introduction of the crystals. "Gods above..." Just what she had been looking for.

"You were wise to bring them here, but-" she looked him up and down. "You look half-dead." Her tone turned towards the motherly. "Stay right there, I'll get you some tea."

"Those crystals I know those...where on Earth did you find those?" Farskon asked the inventor almost suspiciously.
