Elli decided not to push her luck with the cliff. Her first climb might have loosened the cliff-face and it would mean risking a crumbling foothold. Unfortunately, she should have stuck with her first path because her second time at the cliff triggered a mine. She fell backwards, arms flailing trying to regain her balance but failed.

All the way down she emitted just one loud expletive, the vowel prolonged and ending as she landed on the mattress with an equally loud WHUMP!

"Methinks me shoulda done this in th' ferst place." Elli muttered in the middle of the climb. She was halfway up the cliff, her limbs were aching but she was on the path she took the first time up. She really shouldn't have messed with a good thing. It was a lesson she's learned as she heaved herself up at the top.

Call it recklessness, call it fatigue but Elli wanted to get this portion of the obstacle course over with. She rushed for the rope, despite the tired protests of her limbs. She should have listened to her body rather than pushing it because halfway through the swing she lost her grip.

SPLASH! went Elli and more cussing and yelling as she scrambled onto shore. "One o' these days ye all be me handbags! Just ye wait!" she swore.

This time, Elli waited a few moments to catch her breath and give her body a rest. In hindsight it wasn't as if they were being timed so there was actually no rush. Once she felt a bit better, the aspiring pirate took another swing. Honestly she had half-expected to get snagged but it seemed like her threat had worked! Landing on the other side, Elli headed towards the last obstacle.

Eliazuli gingerly trotted over to the Beaver Balance. Her ears flinched at the cries the seagulls made as the soared through the air or smacked into things (and campers). She wondered if she should make a repeat performance or if she should rest up a bit. Nah, with the adrenaline still pumping vigorously through her, she made a mad dash.

And like the first time, this blind rush worked!

The second run seemed to give Elli some confidence (and was that a glimmer of hope?) in her abilities. She had been performing so horrendously in the other challenges that she was seriously beginning to doubt whether or not she was cut out for physical activities. And so here she was, for a third run. Her crawl for the third time took longer, her legs weren't as responsive and her joints were starting to ache. But she still emerged victorious over the barbs.

Elli's fatigue was beginning to show as she made her ascent. It was taking more and more of her concentration to keep a firm grip. Though it was the same path she had taken during her first and her successful second trek, she made a mis-grab at a clump. A mine triggered and sent her back down.

As usual, Elli was yelling a swear word all the way down.

After a few minutes worth of groaning and cussing, Elli was ready to take on the cliff once again. She was no more methodical in her climb than she had been. In fact she was just going with her gut this time around as she took a new route. Even if she couldn't explain why she went up the path she did it was still clear: it was the right one.

And as she hoisted herself up, she flopped to the ground and groaned. She was dreading the next leg.

"Alright, ye oversized handbags! Let's do this!" She yelled at the very edge of the water, her paws gripped tight around the rope. She took a deep breath, closed her eyes, stepped back as far as the rope would allow her and swung. Her tail wound around her waist, not wanting to give the reptiles anything to grab at and managed to safely land on the other side. She blinked in disbelief and let out a delighted whoop.

By now the mud and dirt clung to Elli in clumps, most of her blue fur hidden beneath the dark brown. Though she tried her best to wipe, shake and scrape it off, some of it still got in her eyes as she made her way across the log. She never saw it coming. The only clue she had that she failed in her mad dash was the sound of a squawk before she was met with a face-full of plastic balls.

Well, all good things came to end. So did her luck during the mad run. Elli didn't think the log was all that rickety as she carefully scampered across it. It had held her up the first three times successfully. But that creak sounded far too ominous and Elli soon found herself back in the ball pit.

The broken log had been replaced with a newer, and hopefully sturdier, log. Elli gave it a few hard thumps and when satisfied got on it. She wasn't going to tell herself that the log collapsed because of her weight, vanity wasn't really something Elli indulged in. Besides, she was too focused on avoiding the blasted gulls and the beavers to care whether or not she was or wasn't fat. Even when she successfully reached the other side, Elli never attributed the collapse to her weight.

"Oh me achin' body." she groaned to herself.

(( run 4 - wire crawl - fail ))

He had taken a break between runs, at least long enough to get a drink and rest his arms. Hey, what the hell was the point in going through the course again if he was just going to lose his grip, that would be stupid.

He stood for a moment, watching, why the hell was he doing this again anyway? Heh, whatever. His tail tucked (if he was caught again it would -not- be on his tail), Lucifer crouched, crawling through the course again.

(( run 4 - wire crawl - take 2 - fail ))

Oh come on, what the ********?! Lucifer snarled, reeling around with a look like he would tear to shreds whatever was holding him back. God damned ******** barbed wire, LET GO! An angry swipe at the wire with one paw (which in retrospect was not a good idea, ouch) and his clothing was free, taking a corner of his shirt with it.

Growling, several obscenities muttered under his breath, he crouched for a second attempt.

Em shook herself out, trying to rid herself of the rest of the water and jogged back to the beginning of the course. She sneered at the wire crawl, determined to make it through again. She rolled her shoulders and stretched her neck before she set off under the wires. Shouldn't be too hard a second time... right?
