Damn. First, getting into the temple was a bit....unusual, but now they were falling? This didn't suit Sion well at all. He could see nothing around him, and that didn't fall well with his mind either. The Lilandre local heard Daewyn scream somewhere next to him as they fell and he couldn't help but reach out to her and let his hand fall on her shoulder.
"Hey! It's all right! Just stick with me, okay?" he shouted through the noise, although the whipping sensation of his hair didn't say that it was all right. But it calmed the girl a little bit since she stopped screaming.
However, since they were amulet bearers, Sion didn't feel scared. He considered what was lying below and then considered about the consequences of what lay below...if they ever hit rock bottom. He began to focus; panicking wasn't going to help any, and he began to whisper a small water spell. The sound of his magic rushing into his ears told him that his idea was working. Now whether they would reach the bottom soon would be another issue, but he hoped that the others didn't mind getting a little bit wet.
At least it beat the idea of getting impaled by spikes.

Bryce was oddly calm as the floor opened up and dropped them all into an unknown abyss. Perhaps it was because of the Wind Element that lived inside him. He had no fear of falling, for there was never too little wind to spare him some aid. However, when he thought of the others, he felt uneasy. There were a few who probably could do well enough in such a fall, but he feared for the others, mostly because he knew there was nothing he could do. He could hear them around him, but he could not feel them.
This is the trickery of the spirits.
The trials lie ahead. It should be no suprise that this will not be a walk in the park. Especially for you...
I know. I just hope the others aren't in danger.
The temple knows what it's doing, as does its spirits. It will not kill the Amulet Bearers before they are tested; and then only if they fail will they perish. Deep down, they want us to succeed. Or that's what I've always told myself.
Works for me.
Bryce had no idea how long the fall would be, and he felt it best to be safe. With a quick, whispered chant, a bit of wind surrounded him, lowering him slightly more slowly than before.
After a bit, Bryce thought he heard something. Voices. Familiar ones. And close. He then felt a change in the air. His surroundings were changing, even though it was still pitch black.
Splash
That noise could mean only one thing. And when he heard two people coughing, he was positive that the trials were just ahead.
Ground
Although the fall had not been uncomfortable, it was nice to have two feet on solid ground. As Bryce landed, the wind around him disappated. He heard two voices just in front of him; one was female, the other male. Obviously, the latter was Sion, explaining the splash from before.
He must have used that to brace for the fall. Good to know two of the others are safe at least.
Hey over there! Sion! It's Bryce, right over here. You both okay?
Before an answer could come from either person's mouth, torches from all around lit up in unison, revealing a rounded cavern of sorts, with a single path leading farther in. Bryce, having looked upward immediately, could see only the ceiling and no sign of where they fell from. He looked back to the others, and felt a jolt of relief to see Daewyn crouching near Sion, looking around the room just as suprised as he was.
Well, at least she's safe. Sion too. But where are the others? There's no sign of anyone else...

"Thanks, Sion. I'm okay now I just kinda panicked." Daewyn smiled shakily and looked around the room that illuminated itself so suddenly, puzzling over the very solid-looking ceiling above them. "It sure does feel good to be on solid ground again, but... where are we? And where did everyone else go to?"

It was one thing to cushion a godly number high feet fall, but it was another thing to remember after the fact that impact of water at high speeds resulted in a stinging smack to the body. Sion cringed in pain when his back fell first into the pool of water he had created, only to feel it numb as his element began to heal his body. He had stood up and pulled Daewyn out of the water, though his ears were still clogged from it when he heard Bryce's voice not far from them. He hadn't heard what Bryce had said clearly, but he did see the Wind bearer's presence quickly enough to give some sort of acknowledgement.
Still reeling from the effects of water in his ears, Sion glanced over at Daewyn who had asked some question of some sort.
"....where did everyone else go?"
Huh?
The sudden illumination of the room caught him off guard; he still wasn't quite used to these "trials" yet. However, only the experience of war had kept him under a cool mask within a few seconds. The lack of an open ceiling, or at least where the huge hole they had fallen from was unusual.
"They probably fell in different areas from my guess," he gave an answer. He looked at the brother and sister for some sort of explanation. "Do these trials always split us up or something or the gods just love to tempt fate?"

"Typically we're split up to undergo our own trials," Bryce responded, "but this is especially unusual. Usually it doesn't happen so quickly, and in the past we've been alone when we've split up."
I have a bad feeling about this.
Bryce was not comforted by the lack of response from Narya.
"Well, there's no sense sitting around here much longer. Why don't we stay close together, and see what's farther in? Maybe we'll find the others."
I hope we find the others.
OOC: Looks like one of the groups is advancing! YAY! I haven't really put much thought into our group's trials, so if one of you (Kel or Ayame) wants to make it up, go for it. Bryce'll split off after a bit, and not of his own accord. xd twisted

"Well, I'm pretty happy to not be all by myself," Kelwyn said, "'cause it was pretty lonely in the last temple an' I got scared." She took another glance around the room, this time with quite a bit more excitement and curiosity. "C'mon guys, we gotta hurry if we're gonna get through this to help that scary lady who's in trouble." Without another word, she dashed off ahead, running headlong into the tunnel.
Daewyn didn't get very far, however, when she bumped her head into something she couldn't see. She pounded her fists at the invisible wall, but to no avail. It was not going to let her through.
"I know!" she piped up. "I'll go under it!" Melding into the ground did no good though; the wall went down into the ground further than Daewyn was comfortable going. She emerged from the ground to see a rather upset Sion and Bryce.
"Uh-oh... guess I shouldn'ta ran off by myself, huh?" she blushed, hoping they weren't too angry with her.
"Uh... so.... how are we gonna get through this thing?" Hopefully if she could get them to stick to the task at hand they wouldn't have time to yell at her.
I hate seeing Bryce so angry... I guess I need to be more careful about staying with them...
Daewyn vowed to try to not run off again, at least for as long as she could remember not to.

Neither Nida nor Xachta were terribly concerned with the fall. At this point, they were fatalistic: they'd fallen enough distance over the past several weeks that they were practically a creature of the air at this point anyway. If they broke when they hit the ground, so be it.
Not that they had any intention of falling to their doom, of course. It took effort, but they spent their freefall wisely, creating a platform of gelled goo, much like a snow saucer or giant contact lens. It wasn't much, but with them kneeling atop it, it slowed their descent so that they would probably survive, and might even retain the use of their spine.
Not that it mattered at this point. If they were battered, they would create a ball of goo around themself, use it to roll along. Whatever it took. This two shall pass.
They were shocked when they realized that they were no longer falling. They were certain that their contrivance had not been enough to truly parachute them to safety; nonetheless, they had decelerated so gently that there was no jarring inertial transfer upon their arrival at the bottom. After a brief hesitance, they gathered the courage to open their eyes. Nothing but mist.
A quick switch to magnetic resonance, however, revealed that they were not alone. Baikasu had beaten them to the bottom. Judging from his expression, they didn't want to know how. They waved a greeting in his direction, then realized he might not have detected them.
"Ick," they said with shock. They'd meant to call a greeting, but upon reabsorbing their platform, they instead discovered that the ground was thick, mushy, steamy, hot, decaying, like a peat bog, like standing on top of a rotting boil. It was disconcerting even despite Xachta's influence.

Bryce tried not to look too stern at Daewyn; she is still a child. Still, he couldn't help but worry about her. He'd lost Rayne once; he wasn't about to let it happen again. He shook his thoughts away, and thought of an answer to Daewyn's questions.
Well, I'm not sure for certain how to get through it. Obviously, we can't go under it.
Narya? Ideas?
The silent response gave Bryce a sinking feeling in his chest, though he expected such a result. He tried not to let it show in his facial expressions.
Well...that means it's up to us. No guardians to help...hopefully just for now.
Okay, well, my guess is that we're going to have to work together. I don't think the three of us were put here without reason. Any thoughts Sion?

She landed hard on the ground with a heavy thud. Shinken did little to cushion the impact to the floor, but Naoko guessed that it was better than nothing. Luckily, she landed on a soft spot of loose dirt, which further cushioned her fall, but it did take her a few moments for her to get back up. She was surprised that she landed at all, especially from the depth where she had fallen.
Brushing off the dirt from her cloak and clothes beneath, Naoko looked back up above her, feeling a warm breath of wind circling above. To her surprise, the woman who was one of her cousin's soldiers somehow had managed to get her amulet to activate and was gliding down to the ground.
She had thought that she was going to be alone; now with someone who was still new to all of these trials, Naoko had to face the task of actually explaining and guiding Verdis through survival -- something that she wasn't very good at doing.
~~~
Sion had to hide a smile by looking down at the ground, scratching the back of his head. He had to admit, even through this short period of time knowing them, the girl had to be a lot of trouble to handle. He listened intently to Bryce's comment until he was addressed to:
"Okay, well, my guess is that we're going to have to work together. I don't think the three of us were put here without reason. Any thoughts Sion?"
He finally looked up, seeing that Bryce and Daewyn were both looking at him. He took a glance at them and then at the wall approaching it. Upon reaching it, he set a hand on the invisible wall, looking at it closely to see if there were any openings available. Of course, "looking" wouldn't be the exact term. It was more "seeing" than looking; the two were quite different in magical terms.
"Huh...feels like some sort of barrier," he tapped the wall very hard, much like how Daewyn did but he only did it once, and the sound reverberated through the tunnel that they stood in.
The sound gave him an idea of how strong the barrier was. He guessed that it had to be only a few feet thick, but it seemed that extended hundreds of miles down if Daewyn couldn't get through it. The invisibility wasn't new to him; he had seen this quite a few times before when two continents were at war with one another.
"I think we can break through this thing," he finally said after a long period of thought. "Doesn't sound that thick."
"How?" Daewyn asked.
He finally turned back around to them. "Well, I think if we concentrate on our magical element, then it would break by just the pressure of it." He paused. "At least, it's worked before when I was in Demetrie."
Daewyn watched Sion touching the invisible barrier with rapt attention, but when he finally spoke she didn't quite understand what he was talking about.
"Well, I think if we concentrate on our magical element, then it would break by just the pressure of it." He paused. "At least, it's worked before when I was in Demetrie."
"What do you mean... focus on our elements?" she queried, a perplexed look rested on her face for a moment as she thought about this, then suddenly it brightened. "Does that mean I get to hurl rocks at it?!" she asked excitedly.
The image of a happy-go-lucky Daewyn hurling rocks at the wall and then bouncing back at them reverberated in his head. That didn't feel like a very good idea to test out.
"Um...er, well...no," he replied. He folded his arms across his chest, thinking on how to phrase the term better for her to understand. "It's more like....concentration. Very similar to the way how you talk to your guardian, if you think of it that way. There's a reason why we were chosen, and it's not just because of affinity. It's more...hmm...how can I put it....we have some sort of magic in us that makes us a bit unique from other people. Focus on that magic you've learned through your guardian onto the barrier and it should break."
He glanced at Bryce, knowing that he probably didn't make much more sense and guessed that the other man should be a bit better at explaining focus magic.
Uh... I think I can do that... Daewyn said, hesitantly. She knew Terra would not be able to help her out with this; Daewyn had lost contact with Terra after the guardian's final warning. Instead, Daewyn tried to focus on that place where she usually felt Terra. It was hard at first, a look of determined focus scrunched at her face, and she probably looked pretty silly.
After a bit of concentration, however, she found something... she didn't know exactly how to describe. It felt like freshly turned dirt, soft and cool and inviting, the way she felt when she travelled under the earth. Daewyn focused on that feeling until it surrounded her, then tried to push it outward.
As she was concentrating, her amulet began to glow a soft green color that brightened as the energy grew. When she pushed out the energy, a soft green stream of radience streamed about a foot from her, pulsed brightly, and fizzled out, but her amulet remained glowing.
The girl opened her eyes and looked at her two companions excitedly. Her naturally green eyes were glowing faintly. "Did I do it? I felt... something. It feels nice. What is it?" Despite the fact that she had been using the magic of the amulet for quite some time, this was Daewyn's first experience with actual magic from inside her, and it left her with a jumble of sensations and emotions that were difficult for her to work out.
Verdis thought she should have hit the bottom by now, smashed into the ground, nothing more than a broken carcass, spattered over the rocks, or whatever might be at the bottom of this void. That, or she ought to be lying on the ground, dying of internal bleeding. However, all she felt was an odd sort of warmth surrounding her, the strands of hair and locks that were loose floating up, but not whipping around. Hot air? Her feet slowly touched the ground, landing softly, but she still felt quite warm. A faint glow emitted from the amulet.
Tch, she could've at least wore a skirt...
Wha-what? Verdis shook her head. Surely, I'm imagining things - but why in the world would I imagine something like that. Face furiously flushed in confusion, she was rather thankful for the mask as she stared at the amulet dangling from her wrist.
Naoko watched Verdis land softly on the ground without a word. She was amazed that the fire could somehow manage to work out Reika manipulated her fire abilities as Phey before them hadn't been able to even do that.
She inwardly frowned at the thought of the fox girl. It just didn't seem fair to her that Phey had to fall to a death like that -especially when her amulet guardian survived. However, as soon as the thought came to her, Naoko quickly pushed it to the back of her mind. There was a test at hand, and she needed to be as on focus and as guidable as possible.
She wouldn't let someone else die.
"If you're wondering what your amulet is doing, it's best to continue on this test and find out," she told Verdis who seemed to look at the amulet around her wrist. It was hard for Naoko herself to find out what the younger woman was thinking because of the mask, but she could assume.
She pointed to the corridor before them -- the only one that was available to them anyway. "I guess we'll have to start in there."
~~~~~~~~~ ((OOC: I would like to continue on with Sion, but I have to wait for Bryce for an answer ^^; wink )
~~~~~~~~~
Her finger twitched and then her face. The cold marble felt cold against her cheek. She didn't feel anymore pain.
Pain?
With a start, Reika tried to stand up, only to wince in mid-crouch at the pain around her torso.
"You shouldn't be moving around so quickly after I've just healed you, M'lady," a deep voice reverberated in the room.
She glanced to her right, slowly getting into a sitting position, and her eyes widened at the sight of the man standing against the pillar not far from her.
"You...."
