Mel paused with the fridge hanging open and glanced back at Tunda. He was stooped over and would have looked rather imposing in the right light. He swiped the air in a dismissive, careless way. "Naw, you should stay off that leg. Just relax... unless you want to help me decide what to eat."

Tunda frowns slightly, then shrugs, giving a small grin in Mel's direction. "I don't know what you would want to eat, so I would be terrible at helping you decide, I think... Unless you want me to help you pick something?"

"Meat," Mel said without hesitation, "I'm always good for something like that." He narrowed his eyes a little, peering at the feline pokemon. "No, what I want is for you to not overexert yourself. The worst thing you can do is overdo it and set you back. I know you're eager to get well again, so you really need to be more patient," he smiled. "I know it's hard to take it easy... I know you're used to trying to ignore yourself and look after others. But you don't have to do that anymore."

Tunda blinks, then nods, looking down at his lap again. "Sorry." He thinks for a moment, then looks back up at Mel again. "Steak with potatoes or some other veggie?"

"No," the dragon frowned and spoke in a firm voice. "Don't apologize. It's good to have concern for others, just don't forget yourself. In fact..." he trailed off and the door shut on its own accord. He approached the pokemon quickly and leaned practically nose-to-nose with Tunda peering at him with fierce green eyes and a peculiar smirk. "Listen carefully. Never do anything you'll regret. If doing something will leave you with any regrets, don't do it. Likewise, if doing nothing will leave you with regret, don't do nothing! You'll never have to apologize for what you do."
Suddenly, he was standing again and facing back toward the rest of the kitchen, away from Tunda. "Steak and potatoes. That's a great idea!" After all that, his mind had switched off its tangent and back on track again.

Tunda felt his face flush as he found himself almost nose to nose with Mel. He blinks rapidly, then nods his understanding at the others statement before Mel was back to making something to eat. "I know I'm a mess... I s-still don't know why you put up with m-me." He said softly, watching Mel once again. "I just feel bad when I'm not able to do anything, I guess, so that's why I try so hard."

The dragon pulled out several large russet potatoes and some steaks, taking more than enough for anyone else that might wander into the kitchen hungrily. He chuckled over his shoulder, "Do you realize that right now and ever since you got here, you've been doing something? Besides healing and helping me out, you've been learning! That's what I should have you do after all of this. I'm going to park your butt in somebody's library and leave you there for a few hours." The Nullspace had various studies and libraries scattered throughout, full of volumes and even scrolls collected by its residents. Some were ancient tomes, some were paperbacks from recent Bestseller's Lists. It was really a matter of deciding which to let Tunda loose in. "Well... I guess I could have you look at mine for starters. It's kind of eclectic... some fiction, I love mind-bending sci-fi and sword and sorcery style fantasy, and I have an awful weakness for mangas and historical fiction. But I have all kinds of textbooks too... I bet that'll give you an idea of what you'd want to learn more about, huh?"

Tunda blinks, then nods slightly, watching Mel move around the kitchen. "T-that'd be nice. Hopefully they won't be too hard for me to r-read."

Mel nonchalantly stabbed at the potatoes and wrapped them in foil before tenderizing the steaks. It was a cruel and vaguely fascinating process to be sure. "Oh... I am certain we'll find suitable reading materials. I wouldn't mind helping you if you're having trouble." Of course, others might be more efficient at teaching someone how to read; Keelin for one had raised how many kids around here? He knew strangers were difficult for Tunda to deal with just yet so he didn't mention it.
"Whatever subject you're interested in I'm sure we have it. And if not, there's always the local library. There's a big one downtown... and I think you can find out what they've got ahead of time, online. So you could in theory get a list together for someone to go get the books for you." He glanced over his shoulder. "Any subjects in mind you'd like to learn about? Or do you think you'd like to browse first and see what interests you?"

Tunda blinks, looking back up and glancing at Mel for a moment before speaking. "M-maybe some cookbooks? A-and something about sewing might be nice... J-just books about things to k-keep me b-busy, since I'm not used to n-not doing anything."

The dragon jabbed his clawed finger in the air. "Great idea! I have one or two... but there must be others..." He trailed off and turned to wash his hands at the sink as he considered it. He had a couple such books from his days as a human; home cooking was a big deal and there were some great recipes that had been handed down through the generations, or acquired from friends. Sewing might be a bigger problem, but there were those around here who could compensate, surely.
Returning to the stove, he put the meal in the oven then leaned against it, facing Tunda. "Well, I can get you started with a couple, at least. Others I will have to look around for. Won't be a problem."

Tunda smiles brightly and nods, watching Mel cook once more. "I'd like that. Maybe after you eat then?"

(( I find myself in a difficult position. On one hand I am in withdrawals from rp. On the other, I feel very drained and braindead... So please bear with me~ xD ))
"That sounds good. Or..." he trailed off and glanced at the cupboards. Duh... he muttered inwardly. "Inari's cookbooks would be better than mine," he commented with a wicked grin and strode over to the one he had his eye on, unhesitatingly swinging open its wooden door. "Try this one out," he added a moment later, closing up the cupboard and coming up to Tunda's side. It had some simple but delicious recipes in it. "You won't have to wait for me."
(( This is because it occurs to me that my family used to keep the cook books in the kitchen cupboards. ))

((XD I feel the same hun. *nodnod*))
Tunda's eyes seem to light up at the book Mel handed to him. Nodding quickly, he accepts the book with cautious hands, not wanting to take the chance of accidentally damaging the book. "A-alright. Is it okay for me to read this one? It looks very well cared for."

(( It's been a long, busy time lately. *nods* x.x <3 ))
"Oh yes, definitely! You'll find 'free samples' on some of the pages, actually... some of our cooks really like to make a mess. That would include me as well," he chuckled. "But as long as the book is well loved, no one's going to mind. We can always transfer recipes when the book itself is worn out one day."
