"Yeah..." he said forcing his eyes open again. He really wasn't, but he sensed it was important that they move for some reason...

"If you put most of your weight on me, I can take us to safety. You might want to close your eyes though. I don't want you to get sick on me." Callista smiled weakly and helped Valzar up.

"When I get you to the cave I can help you better. It's just that the sun will be up soon. Since I grew, I can't stay above ground while the sun's out." She looked down, a little embarrassed.

"Because the sun burns my eyes and skin. I'm learning to tolerate early morning light, but noonday sun is so strong that it can kill me. Even when I am in the morning light, I have to wear really dark sunglasses to protect my eyes."

She nodded. It is. I got burnt after I grew because I didn't go to ground soon enough." She gave a small smile of encouragement. "Cave time. The sooner we get there the sooner I can settle you in for the day and then I can go to ground too."

"For the day?" he questioned weakly, still drained from his blood loss. "No, I have to go home...my father will be upset..."

"Do you really want to go home and explain what happend to your father? That you were attacked by a vampire, that she took your blood, and that you took my blood? Besides, she can find you at any time. I can help teach you ways to guard your mind, and i can take the sting away from your injury. But I have to get to the cave to do so." Callista crinkled her nose. "If you really want to go back to your father's, I will take you, but I'm not leaving you by yourself without some sort of guards. " Not to mention if I take him home, I won't be able to make it back to my lair before the sun rises.

Callista sighed. "I'm going to have to get used to this head thing. It's ruining my train of thought." She stood up dipped her head under the front leg closest to her. "Hold on."

"I don't think I can do much else," he said with an almost bitter laugh.

"Then close your eyes. We're leaving now." She took off using her preternatural speed. They were in the cave ten minutes later, where Callista sat him down gently and walked away, breathing deeply and trying to catch her breath.
