Kraun used an 8th level spell. The only thing more potent than that, are 9th level spells like Thermo Nuclear Blast. A mage that can cast an 8th level spell.

As for some of the people being "uber", Maximos would be unconscious flat on the bed of a truck, bleeding to death, right now if Grace didnt heal him. And Cris took no other actions, so really he had no chance to do anything uber other than his psychic break which in our last fast rendered him nearly unable to continue fighting.
And we've barely skimmed the surface of the horde.
Read through the spell list and you can easily see the sort of spells that the mages are walking around with. It isnt a matter of being challenging its the fact that unless we break out weapons that can cut through anything or super armor, we're all dead.
We've killed oh...10 maybe. Out of the growing hundreds and hundreds, and hundreds.
Its uber or nothing, and those us that would rather not being uber are given the choice of being such, or dying. And those that simply CANT, are given the choice of simply dying.
