"Soul fragmentation is when lingering souls that are left behind on planes, some call them ghosts or spirits or such, are literally shredded into tiny bits. They still stay around but are scattered...like fireflies I suppose you could say. They bob around in packs and those whom can see such things see them as such. Or feel or hear them rather." A light chuckle, "The dead really do never shut up." Tilting her head some before reaching into a pouch and pulling out a hand full of bone chips as if to illustrate a point. "If bones were just bones then I wouldn't need so many of these, each marked with a symbol to tell them apart. Bones aren't just to hold up the squishy parts...they can hold memory, instinct, a variable library of information right at one's fingertips." Another smirk, "Of course that's just a necromancer's view...other things can be said in other studies. Bird and dragon bones are not the same as human and wolf bones for example."

She never wondered if it perhaps weirded people out that she rarely looked at them while speaking, but honestly what was there to look at? "I suppose you could say that...but a human's dedication I would not compare to an elf's." Shrugging lightly to that, seeing as she'd never had a soft spot for humans. "My father is my father and that's really all there is to it. Sometimes his curiosity gets the best of him as well." Which usually delt with his children so his wandering from that fit into the behavior she guessed. When he'd pop up...none of them knew but they always did know that dad pretty much kept tabs.

"But the general composition of bone is the same. bone is bone, nevermind the source. I mean sure a human bone and a dragon bone are different in size, weight...but they are both made of the same thing."

glancing at all the shards.

"So what do you do with all these. pick it up and talk to it? and these shredded souls...do you put them back together and send them off or are they just...there?"

"Bone is bone to you. That's how you see it an that's how it will be. Material means very little in the long run...and the definition of what a bone is varies as much as anything else. So bones are not just all bones to me." She didn't try to change anyone's opinion, never did. Merely spoke her own and if you agreed, great. If you didn't well that was your problem. "Make things from them mostly, or rather raise to existance what they used to be part of...that's the main use anyway. Talking is something that is of mood." Shrugging lightly. "I can do with said souls what I wish to do...or what they wish to be done. Granted putting them back together is tricky, but not impossible." And still a skill she was working on. A raise of an eyebrow even if she still didn't look to the dragoness. "Why the questions? I wouldn't expect such a subject to interest you."

"Well I don't mean to brag, but in neutral form I can command the elements fairly well. nothing spectacular. I could start a campfire, but I doubt I could do something like incinerate a ship, if you get my meaning. Some dragons thirst for jewels and gold, some for puzzles, some for knowledge. we all have our own types of hoards. Like Bell, she hoards plans and strategies. she focuses on working out problems, can even get completely lost in them if left alone with it. Kanzec is about logic and puzzles. he'll spend days connecting dots to reasons and rhyme. I imagine as a child a favorite past time might have been taking nursery rhymes and trying to logically fit them into the world."

A shrug.

"In my time in captivity, I hoarded magical knowledge. to keep my mind occupied between Hunter's visits I poured over and through magical tomes and scrollwork. That instinct extends to magical items and artifacts. I've even heard that some spell hoarders become so great and powerful in knowledge that thier very scales become items from which spells can be cast, and are covered in shimmering runes."

glancing over.

"and your magical aptitude is virtually non-existant here. not only would it make a powerful weapon against enemies, but you have shown benificial, if not pleasent, uses for it. such as siphoning poison, and talking now about keeping another being alive even as they may face death's door due to circumstances beyond their control. Thus, I ask questions to better understand the nature of your abilities, and how they work."

"Dragons are braggarts." Flatly stated in that factual tone she pulled, no matter what the dragoness may do to try and justify why she wasn't one or was one within her own reason because pride said so. Dragons were also dreadfully prideful too, but that was a different matter enteirely. "So in other words your need to hoard information on magics drives you to question me on my own. Necromancy is an ever on going education...not even those who consider themselves masters in the art know it all, nor the ones that make liches of themselves. One will never fully comprehend life or death for they are not set in stone on any level. Life and death do not even hold clear definitions...what makes someone alive? What makes them dead? As necromancers...we seek this answers. Even if we only come to conclusions that we will personally accept as what's right. You must look and not look at the same time, believe and disbelieve." Perhaps only a phoenix knew such answers for they themselves were at least masters of life. If you knew life, you knew death as well even if you weren't a cause of it. That thought made her smirk in her own knowledge that she had learned on the ship. Perhaps she had her next desitination in mind after all.

"So are elves."

But she listened, tilted her head a bit. a magic that was all about contradictions it appeared.

"How skilled would you say you are. Would you be able to teach someone else, or are you not that skilled yet?"

That got a raise of an eyebrow and a look over in the dragoness' general direction. "Skilled enough to be on my own and allowed to continue my own learning with sheer experiment and reference material. So yes I could teach what it is that I was willing to teach." She had a feeling that this one's hoarding tendencies were beginning to kick in the more she talked. But was she dedicated enough and could she ignore the perceived moral values of herself and others? No one said being a necromancer was easy...most assumed you were just sadistic necro-centric psychopaths who picked apart puppies for fun.

"I'd like to learn somethings. if you hadn't noticed, my current...bedmate, and I have a distinct problem in longevity. if I wanted him to stick around for awhile, your necromantic magics, as you described with Kanzec, seem to make that a possibility. that you could lengthen a life beyond what it should be, without converting said person into some undead thing. How exactly is that accomplished?"

"You're looking to preserve that arguable waste of flesh and space?" That got a snicker from her. No secret that her and Deacon still didn't see eye to eye so to speak. "So focused on this one man you'd want to learn things that could very well kill him in the process or worse off turn him into something else...and I'm not speaking of turning him into the undead. And for a man who for all intensive purposes shows no affection for you, save a piece of a** when he wants it. Even then...he has others to go to." Blunt as always she was indeed. After all she'd never cared who she offended. "Granted yes, that is accomplishable as you wish. Well, as I said in a sense."
PostPosted: Thu Aug 14, 2008 8:45 pm

"He gives a lot more then you know. but he's hard to get to. probably explains the original attraction. he was like trying to crack open a clamshell with a feather. Most things he does are behind close doors and it doesn't always involve, as you put it, a piece of a**."

A slight shrug.

"But I don't defend him. He's done things, and I've done things, and neither of us are exactly nice people in most cases. I'm a thief and whore turned pirate, and he's been a pirate as long as anyone can remember. killer, thief, deceiving con artist, ect."

waving her hand lightly.

"And you can argue anyone being a waste of space. just depends on if you like them or not. and from what I gather you and Hunter don't exactly like eachother."

A slight grin.

"But he grows on you. like mold. might be slow, but it'll get there."

"Glutton for punishment I would call you then." She didn't care to hear what justification the dragoness had for that human who couldn't see past his own ego. Her mind was made up about him and it wasn't going to change unless something drastic happened...and she didn't see anything drastic happening. "Most things are indeed a waste of space." Her cynical nature didn't take days off. Persoanlly...the thought of mold just wasn't appealing in any sense, fondness or not even. "And this is why you'd turn him into something you'd both hate?"
PostPosted: Fri Aug 15, 2008 10:59 am

"That could be said to I suppose."

before frowning a bit and turning her attention back to the necromancer with carefully critical eyes.

"What do you mean, by turning him into something we'd both hate? I don't see how keeping Kanzec alive through the glass sea won't do that to him, but doing something to keep Hunter alive will. the process should be similar, right?"

Hunter was keeping pace behind the Gale Claw, watching through his spyglass Desdemona talking to Savvy. devil-woman that she was, curiousity couldn't help but make him wonder what was the topic of their conversation. Was Des trying to barter for the compass, was it just girl talk...Or was Savvy trying to get Des to turn on him. he wouldn't put it past her to strike a blow in a way that wouldn't directly get her in trouble.

"We have a few hours until nightfall. keep everything as cool as you can, and make sure none of our provisions that need to stay moist dry out with the added heat. I'm sure no one wants to lose out on our orange supply."

The crew of the Leviathan were helping build on Lycear's city, working to restore as much of it as humanly possible. Most the armada had dispersed, Pirate Lords back to the sands they governed. the Riders were not pleased, but had no choice. the small force of them there was no match for the full armada and they left not too long after the color went up.

Of course, one of the real reasons the Leviathan was a feared ship, and could move fast for her size was it's first mate, a woman with sandy hair and dark eyes, was redoubling the walls and supports through geocraft. The desert herself being restablished to support, rather then consume. She was also a very no-nonsense woman, taking command of those under the construction with unquestionable authority. her word was law, and was enforced through force if needed.

her left arm, from the elbow down was entirely glass, contrasting sharply with her dark tan. an old injury put to dangerous use. her geomancy that gave her the appendage also allowed her to alter it, from hand to whip to cutlass. and she used all three to keep men in line, and following the code and pact that Lycear and her captain made. As much as she might have personally enjoyed making the city folk fear her, orders were orders. and this woman took to code to heart. would live and die by it without question.

"Because they wish to keep him alive for a brief period of time. You wish to keep Deacon alive so long as you fancy him. Even necromancers have to acknowledge the natural order of things and we all know that going against them means certain consequences. Humans are only meant to live for so long. Have you ever heard of what happens to one when they're forced past that?" Shrugging. "And no, the process is slightly different in both cases. Yes there are a lot of similarities but at the same time they are not the same."

She was watching Hunter, watching Savvy and Desi, watching him on occassion. It was probably something comical to see from afar but she was more focused on the unease she was feeling. Like when there was about to be a grand sandstorm and you could taste it on the air and feel it under the ship. Not knowing was the hardest part but collapsing her spyglass she took to looking at their proposed court. They should be hitting the first plates and spires of glass by sun down...it was all a matter of picking the right channels. "Treasue, go fetch Mister Robins. Glass can be just as deadly at night, we need to prepare."

"Surely there was another way. You sacrifice more than your pride this way...what happens when they decide they want to stay when your son comes back, task completed?"

"I might have enough dragons, and the elves may have enough magic and the humans enough drive to win such battles and tests of wills...we don't have the supplies. You know that, you were the one who advised me of it Koto."

"Yes but I thought you'd merely send out a few to fetch some food and stockpile. Not this..." Though his eyes did move to watch as the pirates were trying to make stable a city that its residents merely stood by and watched, neither helping nor hinding. Same as the Guardians were. "I still don't understand why they're trying to rebuild. Even the earth doesn't stand up for very long."

He sighed a heavy sigh, the kind a man makes when he's reached the end of a rope that dangled over a chasm with sharp sticks at the bottom promising to skewer when he fell. "Let them find out the hard way." The air didn't feel right to him again...and usually it was something as subtle as thus that said disaster was on the day's heel. "Gather up our own and make sure they'll be out of harms way...just in case."
PostPosted: Fri Aug 15, 2008 12:40 pm

"considering your the only necromancer I've ever heard of in the world, no, I don't know what happens. enlighten me."

frowning a bit, before glancing back out at the sand and watching the glass.

Hunter closed his spyglass, and watched the glass ahead for a moment. they'd be just getting to it at nightfall. won't that make for unpleasent times.

"Mister Richards, make sure our guns are loaded. I want them ready just in case. and make sure that Teach is comfortable. It's almost time.
"

The pirates knew what they were doing. they were trying to rebuild just to rebuild...but to make the city the target again. the epicenter of these things remained this city, then the sands were free.

the woman watched them build, before moving to the dragon lord and kyoto.

"I sense your exasperation dragonlord Lycear. And it is misplaced. I see your skeptical looks to our efforts. We have a reason. that reason is why I am here."

Gesturing to the work.

"Whatever assaults you, does so through your city. As long as your city stands, and fights back, the thing will either be forced to try another tactic, or bring your city down again. If it tries the city through the sands, I will find it's point of origin. if it tries another tactic, we can fight it."

Looking out at the city.

"We need your city standing. we need the trade routes to do our business in these parts of the sand. and not strictly robbery as you might suspect. we pass goods through the atolls and the city. trinkets from plundered ruins, old maps and scrolls, artifacts that are of little value to us but of great value to others. if the city folds, the trade routes will fold, and this expanse becomes just more sand, save there's nothing much left in it."

"And I would think that you're at least over a hundred years old." Crossing her arms over her chest and tapping gloved fingers on a forearm a moment. "You could keep his body intact as you'd wish but you'd eventually lose his mind. Humans are made to live for a short span, that's all they can grasp. You push them beyond that and their tender sensibilities will start to break them...Does one keep all their family and friends alive as well so they don't have to watch each other die? Anything else they hold dear? Humans do not grasp the world the way we do...we watch civilizations rise and fall, planes change and other such worldly events that take years upon years. But time is something we take for granted. Think about it...everything around you keeps dying. The things you want back you can never have...those around you change to suit but yet you remain as you ever were. Makes the mind cynical and circular, paranoid...and eventually ravenous in an unsateable way. Nothing would make him happy anymore. Not even having you around. He'd probably resent you in the end before finding a way to off himself and probably take a lot of people with him."

"So you've made us lambs for the slaughter then. How very like pirates. You all know nothing of what is happening here or how it happens and you think you and your fancy powers will solve things. Everything is born in the city, you think us stupid to not try such things already? Selfish pirates looking out for your own gains and nothing more, just as always." Koto was of course the confrontation to Lycear's calm...which is perhaps why he was the Master Strategist to the Master Guardian.

He said nothing, merely watched the exchange and stayed quiet still for moments after. "Leviathan's city. Do what you will with it."

That got a hand slammed down next to him at the small table they were seated at that was serving as something or other to at least lay maps out on. "Lycear! Don't say such things just to tickle their egos!"

"I tickle no ego, I state a fact...isn't that right Lady Geomancer?" Tilting his head at the woman, watching her before letting his eyes slide back away to watch what the pirates were doing. His mind couldn't wrap around what step to take next...pirates ment supplies and reinforcement but also a forced hand. Got under his scales, he'd been nothing but honorable to pirates.

He was furious at all of this. "Tell me Pirate, what leads you to think Lycear has anything to do with what happens here? The destruction that you claim is a personal attack against him that just can't reach him?"
