"Thank you," Lin smiled warmly as she carefully tucked the newly decorated feather away.
Now she would just have to pick the perfect time to spring this on Earendil.
"Hopefully it won't be too long until the next time I see you," she told him.
This was the end of the week, she was due to go home.
"Say good bye Miyuki."
"Bye bye!" Miyuki waved at Aranhil, "See you later!"
With that the two headed back to the palace, it was time after all to pack up.

"Good bye!" Aranhil waved cheerfully. "Come again!"
He genuinely liked those two - and he hoped for all the best in their future.

With a week gone and the feather finished, there was no longer a reason to stay any longer. Not that they would be away for long, but they had to go back to Gaia to see family, restock and prepare.
Lin finished packing away the last of her things. It seemed, sad now to have to leave, but at least she would get to see her family.
"Come on," she motioned to Miyuki who had been waiting patiently, "Let's go and not keep Kaito waiting."
Hopping off the bed, Miyuki opened the door for her mommy.
"We're not going to be gone long right?"
"Well to us it won't seem long," her mother assured her.

Earendil was waiting outside of their door. They were going to be leaving, and he wanted as much time with them as possible.
"It'll seem far too long to me," he murmured, his eyes sad. "But when you return, we will all be waiting for you in the Borderlands, right? You'll be going there?"
They had a trip to the Westland ahead of them, after all, and the Eastland as well - Elros and Alena needed to get there eventually.

Lin nodded, "Right, we'll take the portal that leads there then."
It was simple enough, much simpler than back when they were in the inn because it required you to really pay attention to where you wanted to go before you opened the door. Taking her bag and ushering Miyuki along, they began their trip back to the portal down below.

Earendil walked along with them. "What are your plans for when you return home?" he asked Lin curiously, if perhaps a bit guardedly. "Visiting with people again?"
He had something up his sleeve, but he was doing his best not to show it.

"Of course," Lin nodded, "I'll probably talk to my parents for a bit, I should go and talk to Shiro because Shiro would probably prefer hearing about the whole trip from me instead of hearing it from Kaito who heard it from me."
She looked thoughtful and then nodded for a bit.
"I should go visit Helen, run some errands, visit a few friends... also see who would like to visit the Borderlands since that is where my family visits often."

Earendil let out a low whistle. "Busy busy," he grinned. "Lots to do. Do you have any idea how long you're going to be gone? I mean it really does sound like you've got a lot of plans ..."
He didn't want to sound pushy ... or needy. It was a fine line, hard to balance. But he was trying.

That was a good question, Lin didn't want to be gone for too long.
"Two weeks," she finally said, "Just like last time."
Two weeks was a good portion of time.

Earendil nodded. That made sense. And it would give them about a year to find their way back to the Borderlands - no real rush.
"Well, I won't rush you," he murmured softly, smiling at Lin. "I hope you enjoy your visit home."
Visit home. An interesting paradox.

Lin chuckled, "I will."
She reached out for Earendil's hand. Lin really looked forward to when they would be in the Borderlands. There wasn't much else to say beyond that and she liked the comfortable silence of walking along side Earendil as they made their way to the portal.
At least as silence as it could be, Miyuki and Senka were ahead of them. Senka couldn't wait to go to Gaia, it meant smoked fish, which was even better than normal fish.

Earendil took Lin's hand and gave it a light squeeze, and he escorted her and Miyuki all the way down through the labyrinth and to the portal.
"Stay safe," he murmured, hugging her tightly before she could slip through the portal. "I'll see you n the Borderlands when you return."

"I will, you look after yourself now," Lin told him as she hugged back.
"Ada!" Miyuki held out her arms and hugged him, "I'll bring something back!"
She just had to, because it wasn't fair her ada couldn't see Gaia.
With that the two of them (and Senka) slipped through the portal.
