I see, eek people around us had really bad weather with hail and extreme lighting and wind the other day.

But we just had wind here and a light rain for some reason without much else. sweatdrop

Yeah a sturdy chicken coup would be important, but then again you could make due by adapting things to use for a coup.

Make due? What kind of things do you think I could adapt? I'm open to suggestions. For the enclosure I know I can get steel posts. I already have a post driver that I used to put up a dividing fence between me and my obtrusive neighbor. And the country hardware store sells chicken wire by the roll, very reasonable prices. This is starting to feel very possible.

I think that if you have acess to perhaps any old milk crates you could wire them into a grid like fashion and then build walls and or a roof over it.

Or perhaps if you had a pre-exsisting structure like a dog house or such you could take the roof off of it and just extend the top of it till its tall enough and just add in the roosts in it like shelfs.

You're amazing. I never would have thought of using a dog house. This morning I found directions on Mother Earth News web site for a movable hen house starting with a dog house.

Thx, ^8^ I just remembered the idea with a Dog House because of the old one we had for our dog several years ago had went for so long with out any dogs or puppies in it that it had to be replaced.

(The sides had warped from a lof of wet and humid weather over the years acting on it.)

We have one that is plastice now but sadly no dogg or puppy to have to use it. sweatdrop

That is a neat idea though, I though a old dog house could be used some how if a person had some skill to work on it a bit.

I hear there are lots of puppies at the animal shelters just waiting to be adopted. Give you any ideas? Or might you be interested in putting some chickens in that empty doghouse?

I haven't had a dog for a while and it lived inside so I've never bought a doghouse. What kind of store sells them? Hmm Pet Smart, perhaps? Plastic sounds durable and rainproof. It would be fine until winter when maybe I'd want something with better insulation. I found a couple more web sites with tips and plans

I hope that we (Me ^ My parents) can find another dog they and I both grew up with animals around us in some form or another.

My Mom herself grew up on a farm and was always surrounded with animals and my Dad had some farm animals when they were young to.

I would suggest for easyness to use something pre-exsisting but for durabillity making something is prob. better.

That's so cool that your parents grew up around animals. When I stop and think about it, it's amazing that humans and animals can communicate as well as they do sometimes.

Now it's me who has tons of overtime. I guess any hen house carpentry will have to wait. With luck I'll make enough extra money so I can buy a kit rather than have to cut the wood myself.

You're right, chicken coop kits are available through the internet. I've never ordered anything on the internet. It seems chancy from an unknown vendor. A couple times I ordered some things from tv -- HSN and QVC. The QVD item was fine. I had to send the HSN product back. It was crap. Have you ordered from tv or the internet?

Technically, personally I have from the Internet but it is only threw Barnes & Noble and then it was at one of thier stores with a clerk that worked thier so I didnt actually have to give out any really personal info.

And then it was only books not anything like DvDs or such.

My parents have over the T.V. the last one being a Soda Can Crusher you mount on a wall (It is laying unused in a box somewhere. ^8^)

What you did, buying from a known store through the internet, seems totally safe. lol that your parents bought something from the tv. I've never seen the Soda Can Crusher ad. But we had a crusher where I worked. It came in handy when dragging the crushed cans to the recycling center. You can imagine how much space was saved by crushing the cans. It was fun too. Except when people didn't empty the can enough and it spurted all over. lol

Um I don't want to ask. But I have to. You understand. How long ago did your parents get the can crusher? And (sorry) why is it still in the box? lol
