Aranhil chuckled softly. "Weird is not quite the word I'd use, I think, but I suppose it suffices. At any rate, you're here for your piece ..."

He smiled. "I'll be right back with it." He turned and disappeared into the back of the shop.

"Thank you," Lin called out after him.

She grinned down at Miyuki, who in turn was looking up at her Mommy happily.

"Are we going to give it to ada when we get back?" the young child inquired.

"Well, this is something for me to give to him, but not yet. We simply won't have time to get everything right," Lin replied, "So you're going to have to wait a bit longer."

It was only a few short minutes before Aranhil returned, the item carefully wrapped in a soft cloth. He returned to the counter and, holding it in his hand, slowly unwrapped it, showing it to Lin.

"Tell me what you think," he murmured softly, as if he were afraid to speak overly loudly.

Lin's lips spread to a wide smile as she studied the delicate work. It looked as if a vine had caged the feather and began to grow leaves. Even the clasp that would allow it to hang from a chain looked to be part of the vine's curl.

"This is perfect Aranhil," Lin breathe, "This is exactly what I had in mind."

Aranhil's face lit up, and he smiled widely.

"Thank you," he beamed. "I'm glad ... it was one of the more challenging pieces I've ever made. Now ... as for the price ..."

He hesitated. He hated to ask so much for it, but even if he had made it on his own and she had picked it out, it would have been expensive. But that fact that it was a custom piece ... and how complex it was, and how difficult it had been ...

"I have to admit, I hesitate to ask it," he murmured, rubbing his temple with one finger, "but ... five hundred silver pieces, if that is all right with you."

Lin had to admit that would be the largest purchase she would have ever made, but she had requested it for a reason. It was a good thing she came prepared.

"It's alright, I sort of expected that," Lin replied as she reached into her travel bag.

There was a reason why she had brought it with her. She pulled out a box in which she had carefully gone around Gaia picking out items. While Lin was sure she had enough currency on her, she would like to try it this way. If not, she would attempt to sell the things in the box later, because she hadn't done a job in this world for a very long time.

"Would you rather just have the pieces, or are you willing to supplement part of the payment with a trade?"

Aranhil pursed his lips thoughtfully. He had never accepted anything but pure currency, but there was a first time for everything.

"I would have to say that it depends on the items," he replied finally. "I would prefer pure, but if you have something else that I could use ..."

"Something that you could use...." Lin looked thoughtful as she opened the box.

Some of it were things made by her family, some of it were things she found around Durem and Barton. There really wasn't a lot in terms of raw goods, which she didn't really have.

Then something caught her eye and she pulled out a small crystal. Inside of it, a small flame was captured, still as if trapped within time. Technically, she mused it was a seed from some plant from far away that Yukiko had found while browsing someone else's green house. Still, it was a crystal, and the seed gave off warmth.

"I'm afraid this is the only raw good I have," she showed it to Aranhil.

Miyuki saw it and perked up, because she understood things cost a lot, "That's from the fire lilies in auntie Yukiko's garden."

Aranhil peered at the crystal. He had never seen anything like it - but he had no idea what it was, or what it was for.

"What is it?" he asked, tilting his head to look at it from a slightly different angle. "What is it for? What does it do?"

He couldn't take something that he wouldn't be able to use, after all.

"It's a fire lily seed, even though it has qualities of crystal," Lin explained, "I don't know if it would grow here, but I do know that fire lilies are grown for their seeds to be used in jewelry. Sometimes a lily will have a blue flame instead of this typical orange-red, which is what most growers are aiming for when they grow the flowers."

She smiled remembering how Yukiko had bewailed the fact one couldn't simply breed a blue flame, it was completely on chance. Still, Yukiko did try, and often sold the fire lilies claiming they were the perfect gift. Flowers that one could keep a part of afterwards.

"It always gives off a bit of warmth, not a lot, but enough. They grow in tropical... hot environment but needs plenty of water, so I don't think it would be wise to try and grow it. You could make something out of possibly."

Aranhil continued to inspect the seed. If he could get it to grow, it would be worth something ... as a one of a kind piece it might be worth a bit, but on the other hand ... if it was too warm, it would not be good for jewelry.

"May I see it?" he asked, setting the feather down gently on the counter and holding his hand out to her.

"Here," Lin gently placed the seed into his hand.

Instead of cool crystal, it was a soft warmth, not one that would be uncomfortable, and probably not fully noticeable unless one was in more mild temperatures like the where Lin came from.

At first touch, the crystal seed was pleasantly warm, but as a jeweler, Aranhil was well aware that body heat always multiplied the heat of any object - even something cold - and it wouldn't take long before it would become unbearably warm to whomever was wearing it.

"I'm sorry," he apologized, handing it back to Lin. "It is beautiful, but in this climate it would not be sensible. If we were in the north, perhaps, but here ..."

He was genuinely sorry. Part of him wished he could try to grow it, though with no guarantee that it would work or do him any good, he couldn't take it as payment.

"That's alright," Lin assured him putting it back into the box.

Closing the box and putting it away she took out her pouch instead. She was going to have to take a time out one day and simply sell some of the things she had, or take a job somewhere in this world, but she was always traveling...

It took a while for her to figure out how much it would be, that was an awfully lot of pieces, eventually though she managed to figure out the amount.

Aranhil was a little surprised that she didn't show him anything else, but he helped her count out the money and then gave her the feather, still wrapped carefully.

"If there's ever anything else you need, just let me know," he grinned at Lin once they were finished.
