Ikken Isshu Satsujin gave a playful grin. "Well, you've seen how amazingly good I am at travelling in the desert, but otherwise, I'm a pretty seasoned adventurer." Her grin faded, but she didn't say what she was thinking. Working under the constraints I have, I'd damn well better be a seasoned adventurer. Am I ever going to find my Hearrte? Well, she's not totally out of the way. And if a band of Black Marauders or some other bandits shows up... Well, I'll just have to hope I can bloody my hands a little.
"If we can keep a good pace, we should be able to reach the base in a few days. Hopefully, my Hearrte will be there."

Satsujin shrugged slightly and examined the hilt of her right katana.
"If you know where you're going," she said simply, "I'm content to follow. Since you said you're on good terms with the Black Marauders, I don't suppose I could count on them attacking us, could I?"

"Most likely not. They tend to stay in their home turf in the Black Dunes. We're out of the desert now, so instead of worrying about organized marauders, we need to watch for scattered outlaws and bandits. An occasional beast will wander through this sort-of steppe-like grassland as well. Big cats, coyotes, etc."

Satsujin let her mind wander as they walked. The last time she'd felt her Hearrte pull, she had almost gotten herself in trouble doing it. Well, killing the thief hadn't bothered anyone, especially since he'd killed the innkeeper's dog to get into the place. Nobody had even asked any questions when she had whipped out both of her swords to take care of the scoundrel. But when she had actually kneeled down by him to get his blood on her hands, they had wondered. It wasn't as if she had tried to taste his blood, or anything really weird. Just touch it. Still, she was just as glad that she had gotten out of that town with all due haste.
She shook her head. She was definitely going to have to find some other way to do this.

Aer blinked, feeling a little foolish as he followed Tekira around the ship. He had been about to suggest that one of his demons might be able to help, but then realized that it might not be prudent, considering that he had wanted to use them as little as possible. He eyed the entrance and looked over at Tekira again. It was very dark inside, which made him reluctant to enter.
"Are you sure it's an entrance?" he said tentatively. "I don't want to wind up in a waste compartment again..."

Satsujin blinked as she was pulled out of her reverie.
"Hm? Oh... Well, I don't know if I would have on my own, but it's a tradition where I come from. When children come of age, they must go on a journey to find their Hearrtes. I'm forbidden to return until I have found it. They say it weeds out the weak Calan and keeps the island strong."
She was forbidden to speak in too much detail about her island, Senjou; it was a hidden place, as were all of the Gensanchi Calandreai. If she revealed its name or location to outsiders, those outsiders, by Gensanchi law, would have to be killed. And for revealing it, Satsujin herself would be obligated to commit seppuku--ritual suicide--or else face the penalty of a more painful death at the hands of her countrymen.
If they ever found out.
