Ambrose stood straighter, his tail up and fur bristled just enough to make himself look a bit larger as Nicky's eyes turned onto the wolfman. His feral-looking amber eyes holding fast onto Nicky's , unwavering.
"Well... you'll find most people around here are pretty friendly." He commented. "I know it is probably not much consolation compared to the upheval and the shock of coming here..."
His stomach rumbled and he looked towards the cafeteria, raising his nose to take in the scent of cooking meat. He had only just gotten up, and his characteristically demanding stomach was protesting at labor on the lack of nourishment.

"Maybe we should take a short break? Figure out what else needs to be done and organize things. Perhaps pick up some water bottles from the Cafeteria?"
He looked over to Gaius. "Why don't you take something for your neck?" Reaching into his pocket, he pulled something out and offered it to the pegasus. It was a small tin, meant for little mints, but inside was some pain medication. After his third change he had taken an old mint container, cleaned it out and turned it into a pill container for when he went out without his bag. After the pain of his changes died down, he found himself continuing to carry it to help relieve the ache of his eye.

Gaius's lip curled with uncertainty. "I dunno... I was wanting to try and get more done before lunch... though water'd be good." He glanced towards the caf. Now that they'd mentioned it, he was beginning to feel a little empty too.
"Hm?" he turned back to Lucas as the man offered him a small tin. Gaius took it in the palm of his hand, and with a practiced move, gripped the lid with the palm of his other hand to lift it off. He'd found his palms could be decently dexterous when trying to grip smooth stuff that might slip against his hoof fingers, as long as the object was large enough.
"Oh hey, thanks. I was needing some pain-killers," he commented, shaking out two and popping them in his mouth before handing back the tin.
"Maybe someone can go and grab lunch for us? Maybe grab some sandwiches or something in a cooler? That way we can keep working!"

Slipping the tin back into his pocket, Lucas glanced toward the direction of the cafeteria, then shrugged. "I guess I can go grab some food and drinks while everyone takes five. I'll be back shortly." Lucas started for the cafeteria with Dasher and Reuben following.
((Reading comprehension...failing gonk xd
I'm out. Lucas will be back later with food, then probably help out where he can. But I'll be back tomorro-... later today.))

Ambrose inclined his head. "That sounds like an excellent plan. I hadn't eaten yet when I found you guys, and I don't like to work on an empty stomach. I'll give Lucas a hand and fetch back something to fill our bellies, and see if Delia might have access to a cooler."
And with that, Ambrose also set off in the direction of the cafeteria.
((And I think I'm out for a bit. I might swing back by the thread tomorrow to see what's up if I have the time :3. If anyone needs to NPC an extra character lending a hand or two, feel free to assume Ambrose is helping out)).

Nicky glanced from the painkiller-filled tin to the canine leaving the scene for something to eat. He followed their movement, mentally noting where the cafeteria was located before looking back to Gaius and the rest with a shake of his head. My first meeting with that...thing...that may come to bite me in the a** later...lets see what they know.
"Yeah...again, I don't mean to stare or anything like that...Gaius, was it?" he asked with a frown, like he may have forgotten the name already. He, of course, did no such thing. The name stood out like a beacon to him...Sabin's warning...but, keep any potential enemies close was always good policy. "Just...this is still all too surreal for me. To think that...all of this" he said while gesturing to the island as a whole, "is going to happen to me sometime in the near future..." he shuddered somewhat. "Actually, come to think of it...I've gotta apologize to the first person I met...think his name was...Victor or something...I shouldn'tve treated him like that..." he said, trailing off.

From his hiding spot, Victor watched the entire scene unfold, the beam getting forced up, it tilting to the side and threatening to fall over, but he was glad to see that the large beam didn't fall over and nobody got really hurt while the girl with the ear tag got the support nailed into place. Then a few of the islanders there went heading off, apparently to get some food.
Even from the distance he was at, Victor could hear some of what was getting said, and he focused on Gaius and Nicky's conversation. The lizardman didn't like seeing that Nicky was there, talking to everyone and playing cool with it all, it didn't seem right, considering how badly the gangster looking fellow reacted to Victor's appearance, to be able to act that calm.
Victor's reptilian face turned downwards in a scowl when he heard Nicky mention his name and 'apologize' in the same sentance. That guy, apologize? the lizardman gave a short huff though his large snout, he didn't think Nicky was honest enough to make a Genuine apology. The splinted limb on Victor's back throbbed, but he didn't move, he wanted to hear what Gaius had to say on the subject before he did anything.

Gaius turned back to the others as the two canines headed off to the cafeteria. He was loathe to slow up work, but he'd face mutiny if he pressed too hard...
"It's... okay," he sighed, leaning against the stage near Nicky. The horse-man's eyes lowered to his hands, the odd stumpy things the man'd just been shaking a minute before. The grip had felt... strange after so long. Light, flexible fingers, he honestly envied Nicky his hands. Though that really wasn't fair... after all, the guy was on the island now, he'd soon be just like the rest of them.
It depressed Gaius that a small part of him felt satisfied with that outcome.
"I stared too when I was first here... It still feels unreal sometimes," he chuckled dryly. "That feeling won't change..."
He tilted his head slightly, ears standing up at the name. "Victor? Eesh... talk about a nasty wake-up call... I don't know what's going on with his serum... I... well, your reaction probably couldn't have been much worse than mine when I first saw him the way he is now. About scared the pants off me, and I thought I'd already seen the worst possible..."
"Though, your 'first encounter' was probably better than mine... There's an islander you should watch out for. Big red dragon named Zach, and he's dangerous. He's the one who did this to me," Gaius turned his back towards Nicky, showing off the long red scabbing gashes that ran down the lower part of his back, still healing from his recent encounter. "And I wouldn't put it past him to do worse if he got REALLY mad," said Gaius, settling back into his relaxed position. "The problem is, he's in the pocket of the labs... and he's not afraid to call down their power on anyone who crosses him." He hesitated a moment, debating how much he trusted this new guy... but it was probably best to give the man an idea of what he was facing. Leaning closer, Gaius whispered, "You know that red-furred guy helping us here, with the cloth over one eye? Zach took his eye. It's damn unfair, but that's how it is. So be careful if you run into him..."

Nicky also glanced down at Gaius's hands, though he tried to be subtle about it. He honestly didn't want to know what kind of hand he was going to shake before the fact...but afterward...Christ, calm down, Nicky...maybe it won't be as bad as all that...Sabin said he'll prepare you for the island...he won't do that by taking away your hands, right? "Yeah..." he said shaking his head, "But...it doesn't do to just hole yourself up, yaknow? I figured, the best way to get over the initial panic is just to...submerg myself as soon as possible. Try to meet some of y'all, 'n...make the best of it, I suppose." He gave a small smile, which soon turned into a sad frown.
"Yeah...thought it was Victor...I dunno, I just...way overreacted...I really feel bad for treating him like that..." he said, at least semi-truthfully. Actually, he really did feel terrible for the thing...he couldn't imagine what that would be like...the day to day struggles...and then to have someone like him barge in and treat him like that...Well, that was the worst case scenerio, right? Better him than me.
Nicky's eyes lit up at Gaius's warning about Zach. "A Dragon? Goddamn..." he muttered as he looked over those wounds...he wasn't too used to lacerations, bludgioning, he could handle...but claws? Ugh. So...Zach's Sabin's muscle then? He should be more subtle than that. Nicky nodded at the mention of how Zach was in the pocket of the labs. Guy doesn't take care of his own messes then...sad. Well, I do need to talk to him anyway...but if he can't control himself, I don't know how useful of an ally he'd be.
"That's what was with the bandage...? Christ...what'd he do to deserve that kind of action? But...yeah, thanks for warning," he said earnestly.

After the nails had been put into place and every thing was settled, Marshall found himself sitting down towards the back of the stage, his knees up to his chest as he tried to calm himself down. Thank the lord no one noticed how bad he was panicked, his breathing shallow and fast. He took a deep breathe, trying his best to shake it off as fast as he could.
"S-So...Whats next?" Marshall asked as he walked over to Gaius and the newer man known as Nicky.

Gaius nodded to Nicky. "Yeah... though it's not all bad here. And don't mention anything about the eye to Lucas... He's nervous about it."
Turning back to Marshall, he gave a grin. "Next..." He pointed at the other identical beam lying on the ground. "We get to put that up on the other side!"

"Erm..." Marshall felt his stomach sank, "Uhm...Is there um...Some thing else I could do perhaps?" he asked, feeling really pathetic. He knew he shouldn't have stuck around. Now he was just getting in the way.
"Oh, I just remembered! Um...Didja get the letter I left you?" he asked, in a poor attempt at changing the subject.

Gaius couldn't help but smirk a little. Poor Marshall looked so crestfallen! He reached over and ruffled the guy's hair playfully. "Hey, can't be any harder than this one!"
He nodded in response to the question and smiled. "Yep! I'm looking forward to it! How old are you going to be, anyways?"
Silently, Gaius's eyes glanced back towards the caf. He wondered if work could be continued while waiting on food... Though Lucas and Ambrose were a good portion of his crew's muscle.

((*hopes Sabin doesn't mind*))
It was a quiet walk to and back from the cafeteria with Ambrose, aside from the deciding on who would get what. It made things awkward, but at least Lucas couldn't say anything more to accidentally offend the wolf. Though, at a few points he had attempted to apologize, but could never get the words out.
They found a cooler and quickly filled it with ice, a variety of foods for different tastes, then several bottles of water and a few sodas, along with cups. When it was stuffed, they carried it back to the construction site. "We're back," Lucas called out, at the same time trying to hide he was panting a little thanks to the warm sun and fur as they returned. Setting the cooler down off a short ways from where the work was being done, he pulled out a bottled water from it and filled a cup. Drinking a little himself, he then offered it to Dasher and Reuben, both of which lapped up quickly.

"I'm gonna be twenty two." Marshall said, feeling so proud about hitting the two-two mark in his life. Mind you, he didn't even consider that the others might see him as a sixteen year old or some thing.
